Chapter 2938 — Jingjing? Liu Jinghan!
The man is already dead—what use are conditions now? Back then, Han Jingyi had truly been ready to die! But now, Han Jingyi was bringing the matter up again, and what Wei Zhao felt was not merely surprise but, more than anything, confusion.
Because none of this fit Han Jingyi's character at all.
Suddenly, Wei Zhao seemed to hit upon something, to understand something; his gaze shifted to Han Jingyi's face—but then he shook his head again, feeling his own guess was rather absurd.
Still, however puzzled he might be, he nodded and said, "All right, Jingjing, I agree! But there's no need to say it's only this one thing you're asking of me. For everything you've done for me, you could ask me a hundred favors, and it would still be only right."
"Mm-hm, thank you, Brother Wei Zhao!" In that instant Han Jingyi seemed especially happy, as though a great weight had lifted. "Jingjing knew it—Brother Wei Zhao is the best to Jingjing!"
"Heh heh..." Wei Zhao smiled, wanting to press Han Jingyi further, but judging by her manner, he doubted she would say much more. The reason she had given was already flimsy enough, yet if Han Jingyi did not wish to speak, there was nothing he could do.
Besides, he did not want to pry into these matters. Han Jingyi must have her reasons for throwing all her weight behind the Liu family, and for a girl like her, whatever Wei Zhao could grant, he would grant with all his heart.
"Brother Wei Zhao, then Jingjing is going into seclusion now. If anything comes up, you can have my little brother Xiaochao pass the word to me. I may come out from time to time to forage for food, but while I haven't come out, whatever you do, don't disturb me!" Han Jingyi said.
"All right. You'll be right next door, then?" Wei Zhao found it a little odd, but he agreed all the same.
"Mm, right next door," Han Jingyi said with a nod. "If Brother Wei Zhao has something really urgent, just call Jingjing's phone."
"All right." Wei Zhao agreed. He couldn't shake the feeling that Han Jingyi was acting strangely today, though he couldn't put his finger on just what was strange about it.
"Then Jingjing will be off..." With that, Han Jingyi made to leave, but at the doorway she turned back. "Brother Wei Zhao, you won't forget what you promised Jingjing, will you?"
"Oh? What thing?" Wei Zhao blinked, then caught himself. "You mean the Liu family? Don't worry, I'll call Liu Tianyi right now."
"Mm-hm, then Jingjing is off!" Han Jingyi smiled happily, turned, and left Wei Zhao's villa, heading for her own...
Wei Zhao shook his head, but even so, he dialed Liu Tianyi's number at once.
"Divine Doctor Lin!" Liu Tianyi answered the phone in trepidation; he had not expected Wei Zhao to call again so soon.
"Mr. Liu, the matter of your brother... let it go. Leave him in the rehab center for a while first," Wei Zhao said.
"Huh?" Liu Tianyi was taken aback, unable to tell what Wei Zhao meant—was he speaking ironically, or testing him? Still, he dared not be careless and said earnestly, "Divine Doctor Lin, rest assured, we mean what we say—you will never see Tianli again."
"Did you not understand what I said?" Wei Zhao frowned and gave a cold snort. "I said let him live!"
This was what Han Jingyi had asked for, and so Wei Zhao had complied—but not out of any regard for the Liu family, only for the sake of that girl who would sooner die than betray his secret. So Wei Zhao still harbored anger toward Liu Tianli, and with Liu Tianyi asking like that, his tone was naturally less than pleasant.
"You mean... Tianli doesn't have to die?" Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Liu Tianyi was at once astonished and overjoyed. "Thank you for your grace, Divine Doctor Lin..."
"Also, your Liu family will continue to handle the partnership with the Guan Great Physician Pharmaceutical Company. But Liu Tianli is plainly unfit for the work. Doesn't your family have a gifted girl named Liu Jinghan? Have her call me when she has a moment. From now on, your family's business will be in her hands!" Wei Zhao said.
"Ah—yes, yes!" Happiness had come too fast; for a moment Liu Tianyi could scarcely take it in, and he agreed mechanically. But the next instant something occurred to him: Wei Zhao had let the Liu family off, and had named Liu Jinghan as the family's ***. What that implied, Liu Tianyi could vaguely guess... He hurried to say, "Divine Doctor Lin, rest assured, I will report your wishes to my father at once and have Jingjing take full charge of the family's enterprises and affairs!"
Liu Tianyi's meaning was plain: he was even prepared to yield the position of family head, letting Liu Jinghan shoulder both the business and the family's affairs.
"Jingjing?" Wei Zhao was acutely sensitive to that name; hearing Liu Tianyi bring it up, he was instantly startled.
"That's Liu Jinghan—Jingjing is her childhood name..." Liu Tianyi hastened to explain.
"Oh..." Wei Zhao's heart gave a faint leap. Jingjing? Liu Jinghan? Could it be... But Wei Zhao shook his head again, dismissing the guess in his heart. It was a little too far-fetched...
"Does Divine Doctor Lin know our Jingjing?" Liu Tianyi ventured.
"Of course I don't know your Jingjing! Mr. Liu, there is one last thing I want you to understand: I let your Liu family off so easily not because of the Liu family itself. The mistakes you committed had reached a level where I had no choice but to punish you. But a friend who is very important to me pleaded on your behalf, and so this time I have spared you. I hope you will conduct yourselves well and not do anything to disappoint me again!" Wei Zhao concluded with a faint warning.
"Rest assured, Divine Doctor Lin. Whatever happens, since you have shown mercy, our Liu family will serve Mr. Lin with utter devotion hereafter!" Liu Tianyi hastened to pledge—yet inwardly he was suddenly perplexed. A friend very important to Wei Zhao had pleaded for the Liu family? Then it wasn't Liu Jinghan? Who, then?
Wei Zhao hung up, and Liu Tianyi was still steeped in excitement and bewilderment. But since he could make no sense of it, he could only report the matter faithfully to the old master of the Liu family, Liu Zhenhu.
"Father, this is Tianyi. Divine Doctor Lin called again just now," Liu Tianyi said excitedly once the line connected.
"Oh? What did Divine Doctor Lin say?" Liu Zhenhu was rather puzzled—what was Tianyi so happy about? From his tone, one would think Wei Zhao's call was a good thing. (To be continued)
