"Then try again," Jiao Yazi said, no longer trying to talk him out of it. He knew Wei Zhao's temperament: the sort who, with even a sliver of hope, would insist on making the attempt.

Wei Zhao swiftly repaired the sections of his meridians that the true-qi bomb had blown apart, then went back to compressing energy bombs, launching his second assault on the bottleneck.

"Xiao Shu, something seems off with Wei Zhao. Let's hurry and find Wang Xinyan!" Gu Mengyao knew Wei Zhao's character. If he had truly lost control and needed a woman, he would have come straight to Xiao Shu—or even to her. There was no need to send for Wang Xinyan!

After all, though Gu Mengyao thought Wang Xinyan might become Wei Zhao's girlfriend, the two of them had only ever been ambiguous; nothing between them was truly settled. So by Wei Zhao's nature, he would never summon Wang Xinyan over for something like that. It had to be something else.

"Oh, right!" Shen Yushu nodded. She had only been joking around; at a critical moment like this, she would not make trouble or fool about. She hurried out of the villa with Wu Chengtian, running for the car.

"Old Master Pi, you all stay and guard the boss while he heals. Yao Yao and I will be back before you know it!" Wu Chengtian said quickly.

"Go on! Don't worry, we've got things here!" Old Master Pi thumped his chest. With a Heaven Rank expert holding the fort, he was confident he could handle anything short of a truly troublesome enemy.

Wu Chengtian nodded and leaped nimbly into the Grand Cherokee in the courtyard. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu got in too, and the three of them sped off toward the school. Wang Xinyan should be in her dorm at this hour—today was Sunday, and it was already afternoon, so even students who had gone home would have returned to their rooms by now.

Besides, Wang Xinyan never seemed to go home on weekends; she stayed at school the whole time, since her parents always seemed busy.

Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu knew which dorm was Wang Xinyan's. Wu Chengtian parked beneath the girls' dormitory, and the two of them tore up the stairs and knocked straight on Wang Xinyan's door!

The one who opened it was not Wang Xinyan but her roommate Chai Xiaoling, Zhao Shengji's girlfriend. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had been to the Lion-Tiger Park with her and eaten together, so they knew her well.

"Yao Yao, Xiao Shu? Are you here for Xinyan?" Chai Xiaoling guessed their purpose at once. She and He Meiyue knew Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu too, but they had never had much to do with each other—only Wang Xinyan seemed close to them.

Sometimes Chai Xiaoling found it curious. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu both seemed to have some murky entanglement with Wei Zhao, and so did Wang Xinyan. The relationship among the three was delicate, and yet they seemed to get along well—strange, really.

"Yes. Where's Xinyan?" Gu Mengyao asked urgently.

Wei Zhao's tone earlier had been frantic, so something serious must have happened. Gu Mengyao dared not waste a moment—so much so that she skipped the pleasantries with Chai Xiaoling and went straight to the question.

"Xinyan's taking a shower. What's wrong? Is something the matter?" Chai Xiaoling was puzzled. Why was Gu Mengyao in such a rush?

"Taking a shower?" Gu Mengyao was taken aback. She had not expected Wang Xinyan to be showering at this hour. For a moment she was at a loss. "Then… how long has she been in there?"

"Only about five minutes, I think?" Chai Xiaoling grew even more puzzled. "What on earth has happened?"

"Well…" Gu Mengyao did not know how to explain. As she hesitated, unsure what to do, Shen Yushu charged straight into Wang Xinyan's room, snatched a bedsheet off what looked like Wang Xinyan's bed, and dashed into the bathroom inside!

"Ah… who's there?" Wang Xinyan cried out when someone pushed open the bathroom door. The running water of the shower had drowned out the sound of Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu's arrival, so Xiao Shu's sudden entrance gave her a fright!

This was the girls' dormitory—boys were not allowed in—and it was her own room, so Wang Xinyan had not locked the door. Normally, of course, her roommates would not burst in either. But when she saw that the intruder was Shen Yushu, she breathed a sigh of relief—and then grew all the more baffled. What had Shen Yushu come for?

"Xinyan, come with us quick! Shield Guy needs you desperately right now!" Shen Yushu said, then ran over and shut off the shower, draped the bedsheet over Wang Xinyan, wrapped it around her front and back until she was bundled up like a mummy, and began pushing her toward the door!
