Chapter 2055 — A Deep Admiration

The Blossom Guardian

The moment the patrol car came to a stop, several security guards hurried out and asked, "Was that loud bang from around here? What happened? Do you need help?"

The owners of these luxury villas were major clients of the property management company—a single year's property fee ran into the tens of thousands. Small wonder they were so attentive, rushing to the scene the instant anything went wrong.

"Oh, it's nothing. My friend was cooking and must have accidentally blown up the pressure cooker," Wei Zhao said. He had a rough idea by now that Han Jingyi had run into some trouble while researching pill refinement, but there was no way he could tell the property company's guards the truth, so he fobbed them off with a casual excuse.

"Ah, so that's what it was. Then there's no problem!" The guard captain leading the team breathed a sigh of relief at Wei Zhao's words. What he feared most was a gas explosion or a high-voltage blast—those things, if they blew, fell under the property company's maintenance responsibilities, and they would certainly be held liable. But hearing Wei Zhao say it was only a pressure cooker, and seeing that there appeared to be no casualties, he naturally set his mind at ease.

"Ha, thanks for coming out," Wei Zhao said.

"No trouble at all. You're the owners of the villa next door, aren't you? If anything comes up, just give us a call!" The guard captain noticed that the gate of Wei Zhao's villa was also open, and naturally guessed they must be the owners from next door.

"All right, carry on with your work." Wei Zhao waved a hand, signaling that they could leave.

The guards got back into the patrol car and sped away, while Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, having heard that Han Jingyi was fine, breathed their own sighs of relief.

"Yaoyao, Xiaoshu, you two head back. I'm going to check on Jingjing and see what on earth she's up to!" Wei Zhao said.

"Mm, all right. Be careful," Gu Mengyao reminded him.

"Don't worry." Wei Zhao followed Han Xiaochao into the villa, while Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu returned to their own.

"Brother Wei Zhao, you wait here for my sister. I'm going to read." Han Xiaochao seemed not particularly good with people. After pouring Wei Zhao a drink, he rose and went back to his room to study.

Wei Zhao nodded and said, "Go on, don't mind me."

Alone in the living room with nothing to do, Wei Zhao slipped back into the jade pendant's space to cultivate. There were no outsiders in Han Jingyi's house anyway, so he had no need to hide himself.

About half an hour later, footsteps sounded from upstairs, accompanied by Han Jingyi muttering to herself: "I'm done for, done for! Jingjing's face is ruined, this is a disaster, will Brother Wei Zhao still like me... boo hoo hoo..."

"Jingjing?" Hearing this, Wei Zhao was caught between laughter and tears. He called up the stairs, "Jingjing, I'm here—down in the living room!"

"Ah! Brother Wei Zhao, you came to see Jingjing?" Han Jingyi was delighted to hear his voice, but just as she was about to come downstairs, she stopped short—there was a deep gash on her face. It was on her forehead, and her hair would hide it well enough in future, but Han Jingyi was still worried!

Even with Dr. Guan's wound salve applied, she feared a scar might remain.

Wei Zhao was torn between amusement and exasperation at her words. Han Xiaochao apparently hadn't told Han Jingyi he had arrived—though, considering the boy had gone straight back to his room to read, and Han Jingyi had been in the bath at the time, it was only natural he hadn't mentioned it.

"Jingjing, you're hurt? Come down and let me have a look!" Wei Zhao said.

"Ah, Brother Wei Zhao, you already know?" Han Jingyi had not wanted to come down looking like this, but hearing his words, she knew she could not hide it any longer. She shuffled downstairs reluctantly, and at the sight of Wei Zhao, tears of grievance spilled from her eyes: "Brother Wei Zhao, I cut my head—my face is ruined. You won't like Jingjing anymore, will you!"

"Why would you say that?" Wei Zhao realized that Han Jingyi was, in truth, quite fragile.

"Jingjing thinks Brother Wei Zhao only likes pretty girls and doesn't like ugly ones," Han Jingyi said. "Otherwise, why is everyone around Brother Wei Zhao such a beauty?"

"Good grief, that's just coincidence," Wei Zhao said. "Besides, Jingjing is very pretty too."

"But Jingjing's face is ruined now!" Han Jingyi pointed miserably at the bandage on her forehead.

"Ha, it's fine. I'll heal it for you." Wei Zhao smiled faintly. With one hand he pressed the pulse point on Han Jingyi's wrist, and with the other he laid his palm on her forehead. Barely several dozen seconds passed—before Han Jingyi even realized what was happening—and he withdrew his hand. "Done!"

"Done?" Han Jingyi blinked in bewilderment. Just now she had felt a faint coolness spread across her forehead, and then Wei Zhao told her it was done.

"Mm. See for yourself if you don't believe me." Wei Zhao pointed at her forehead.

"Huh? It really does seem to hurt less..." Han Jingyi touched her forehead, a little surprised. Trusting Wei Zhao completely, she unwound the bandage and ran her fingers over the wound—what wound? There was nothing there!

Apart from a handful of salve on her fingers, the skin was smooth and delicate, with not the slightest trace of a wound.

"Go wash that salve off," Wei Zhao said with a smile.

"It's really healed?" Han Jingyi had never imagined that Wei Zhao could cure her wound with a single touch. It was simply too miraculous!

"Go look for yourself and you'll know," Wei Zhao said.

"Mm-hmm..." Han Jingyi hurried off to the bathroom, where a cry of astonishment rang out, followed by the sound of water splashing against her face.

A moment later, Han Jingyi came dashing out of the bathroom, overjoyed: "Brother Wei Zhao, it's really healed! You're amazing—Jingjing admires you so much!"

Wei Zhao felt a little embarrassed, being admired by a genius girl like this—he truly did not know what to say... In truth, his road to success had been bitterly hard. His only stroke of luck, perhaps, was that his constitution happened to suit the cultivation of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art; add to that the fact that he had worked harder than anyone else, and only then had he come to possess the formidable powers he had today.

But Wei Zhao knew full well his own measure and his own shortcomings. The strength he had today came entirely from painstaking cultivation and from coincidences of fortune!

Wei Zhao could not compare with the scions of those hidden families, and still less with the disciples of those ancient sects and ancient clans!

Without the jade pendant's space, Wei Zhao might well still be stuck at Yellow Rank. For better or worse, he lacked a master to guide him—indeed, on the path of cultivation, Wei Zhao could honestly say he had not a single soul to even consult!
