Chapter 1066 — A Plot Against Feng Xiaoxiao
"Oh?" Feng Xiaoxiao froze for a moment, then felt something hard pressing against her backside... and in an instant she understood why Wei Zhao had told her not to move.
Her cheeks flushed crimson, yet inwardly she was delighted. Though she and Wei Zhao had become a couple, there had been, to some degree, an element of forcing his hand; if not for Tang Zhi's generosity in honoring that bet, Feng Xiaoxiao could never have had this kind of relationship with Wei Zhao.
So she had always worried that Wei Zhao did not really like her. Now, though, it seemed that worry was unnecessary, because he was clearly still very interested in her.
"Or else... shall we give it a try in the car?" Feng Xiaoxiao suddenly blurted out something remarkably bold.
"What nonsense are you talking? Do you have a death wish?" Wei Zhao was caught between laughter and tears at her words. The things this girl came up with were truly earth-shattering.
For all his skill, Wei Zhao would not dare do such a thing. Wouldn't that be plainly asking for death?
"Hehe... I've seen people do it in races before..." Feng Xiaoxiao said, a little embarrassed.
"And then?" Wei Zhao asked.
"And then they all crashed and died!" Feng Xiaoxiao said awkwardly.
"They died, and you still want to try it?" Wei Zhao shot her an exasperated glare.
"I figured you're pretty formidable, aren't you? A Xuan-rank expert... I heard you can shield yourself with true qi..." Feng Xiaoxiao stuck out her tongue.
"At a time like that, who'd still be worrying about true qi?" Wei Zhao shook his head. "Focus on the race. If you're going to race, enjoy the speed and thrill it brings; don't think about anything else."
"All right." Feng Xiaoxiao thought about it and had to agree. That sort of thing was better done back home; here, she should just enjoy the pleasure of racing. Wasn't that what she had always dreamed of?
After her little outburst, the fire in Wei Zhao's heart had subsided. He started the car, his left hand covering hers on the steering wheel, his right arm wrapped around her body. "When I tell you to turn the wheel a certain way, you turn it that way. Follow my lead!"
"Got it!" Feng Xiaoxiao nodded.
"Five, four, three, two, one..." The countdown sounded from the speakers, and at the very moment the number "one" was called, the referee beside them swung the little flag in his hand.
The Audi and the Range Rover shot forward like drawn swords almost in the same instant. Only on the straight stretch before the mountain road, the Audi was visibly outmatched by the Range Rover; after a few hundred meters, the gap between the two cars slowly widened.
The Range Rover was fast, and in the blink of an eye it had left the Audi far behind.
"What's so impressive about having a better car!" Feng Xiaoxiao ground her teeth in fury, gripping the steering wheel tight, yet there was nothing she could do. What could she do? Her car simply was not as good as his.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao's right arm was around her; he patted her to signal that she should stay calm. But Feng Xiaoxiao was so excited that his hand accidentally landed on her chest... Wei Zhao was instantly embarrassed. This... truly had not been intentional!
Feng Xiaoxiao, however, did not seem to mind at all, shouting over and over, "Drive, drive! Faster, faster!"
Wei Zhao smiled faintly and said offhandedly, "No rush. His car is big; once we hit the winding mountain road, his disadvantage will show."
On the mountain road, the going was rough. The Range Rover did have some advantage — on this kind of surface an off-road vehicle was far superior to a sports car, no question. But at the same time, though the road was bumpy, it was all sharp hairpin turns, and here the small car's advantages came into play again!
Big as the Range Rover's engine displacement was, on this kind of road, not hitting the brakes was pure suicide!
So Wei Zhao was not worried about the Range Rover's current lead.
Though the Range Rover was in the lead, it was hardly a comfortable one. The bald man in sunglasses drove with one eye on the road and the other on the Audi in his rearview mirror.
He had no wish to open up too great a gap between himself and Wei Zhao and the others, so he did not push the car to its limit. Otherwise, on the two-kilometer run-up from here to the mountain road, he could easily have taken it up to three hundred.
Ring-ring-ring. A cell phone rang, and the bald man in sunglasses answered it.
"Hello?" He took the call while driving, his manner utterly composed. Evidently, a race like this did not seem to weigh on his mind at all.
"Third Brother, how is it that I see a man sitting in Little Feng's car? What does the fellow do?" A man's voice came through the receiver.
"Second Brother, that man seems to be a bodyguard Feng Tianlong found for Little Feng." The bald man in sunglasses paused in thought, then said, "He appears to have some skill in fighting. Of course, I cannot rule out that he is a boyfriend Little Feng found for herself — they look quite intimate."
"Oh, then we kill them both together. Third Brother, are you confident?" The man called Second Brother pondered a moment before speaking.
"Do not forget where I come from — I am a retired world Formula One driver!" The bald man in sunglasses spoke with perfect composure. "I had already planned to kill them both together. If anyone is to blame, it is him for mixing with Feng Tianlong's daughter!"
"I trust your driving! I have already readied a helicopter, standing by at the summit. The moment you succeed, I will send the helicopter to pick you up and get you out of there!" said Second Brother.
"All right, we are coming up on the bends, so no more talk for now. I need to find an opening and kill them!" said the bald man in sunglasses. "But for the moment, I must wait for these two doomed fools! Had I known they would race in a sports car of such small displacement, I would have switched to another car!"
Though the bald man in sunglasses had read Feng Xiaoxiao's file and knew she usually drove an Audi, he had assumed she would bring something a little better to a race. But he had clearly misjudged: the car Feng Xiaoxiao brought to the track was still her own Audi!
Sure enough, just as Wei Zhao had said, once the Range Rover entered the mountain road, it visibly slowed. To accelerate on a road like this was essentially to court death — though the truly skilled were the exception, of course!
Naturally, Wei Zhao was skilled in this regard. But Wei Zhao suspected that the bald man in sunglasses was skilled as well!
If he were not, that flawless drift before the race would have been beyond the reach of an ordinary man! Distance and speed had been gauged to perfection: a hair more and he would have crashed into Feng Xiaoxiao's car; a hair less and his front end could not have swung out so squarely.
One could say that before the drift, the driver of the Range Rover had calculated angle and position precisely enough to achieve exactly that effect. RO
