Chapter 1029 — A Shocking Wish

The Blossom Guardian

Yes, everyone has dreams in childhood... only, as the years pass, those dreams gradually wither away...

What had his own dream been, back then?

A farmwife? A mountain spring? A little plot of land?

Yes, Wei Zhao's dream in the beginning had been very simple. As a child, living with the old man, he had never imagined that he would grow up to be an assassin, nor had he ever imagined what kind of life he would one day lead...

Back then he had assumed he would be like the other village children around him—like Ergoudan, say—planting fields and gathering mountain produce with him to support a family...

But later, once Wei Zhao came to understand things, he began carrying out all sorts of missions, some simple, some complicated... and after that he knew even less where his own dream lay.

That rootless, drifting existence was the whole of his life. Now and then, when he had a moment of leisure, sitting back in the old hometown chatting and shooting the breeze with Ergoudan counted as the most relaxed hours of his life.

As the years wore on, he grew up, and Ergoudan grew up too.

His own fate had been changed by the old man, and he was destined never to become a farmer; while Ergoudan's fate had been changed because of him, and he too was destined never to become an ordinary farmer... and yet was bound to remain in the old hometown as a farmer!

Thinking of Ergoudan, Wei Zhao found he rather missed him. It had been a while since he had seen him, and he wondered whether the spring plowing was finished yet. It ought to be about done by now, surely? He would find a moment to call him and have him come over to Songshan City...

And so the life Wei Zhao led now could be called the most leisurely stretch of time he had known apart from his childhood—food and drink and beautiful women, and though dangers lay thick and crises lurked on every side, Wei Zhao savored it like sweet honey.

Even so, Wei Zhao still felt his own life was better than Feng Xiaoxiao's! For though his fate was rootless and uncertain, he had a friend in Ergoudan. Ergoudan might be a bit dim, a bit reckless in what he did, but he suited Wei Zhao's taste just fine.

At least he was a man of true feeling: whatever Wei Zhao told him, he would only chuckle and never breathe a word of it to anyone else.

So Wei Zhao had never kept the experiences of these years hidden from Ergoudan, and Ergoudan was a most faithful listener.

Wei Zhao shook his head and suddenly remembered that his time was short—class was already over, and here he was reading Feng Xiaoxiao's wishes, and he had actually let his mind wander!

Not daring to dawdle, Wei Zhao hastily photographed this wish of Feng Xiaoxiao's for the record, shut it, and went on to read the next one.

"I want to fall in love too, to have a boyfriend who cares for me and looks after me. Seeing other people stroll beneath the flowers and the moon, I'm so envious... But I can't do that to someone else! I'm going to die, and my love would be heartbroken!"

This wish, however, came in two parts: the passage above had been written on a date two years earlier, and beneath this wish there was now another annotation! Its date, though, was very recent!

"I've decided—I'm going to fall in love with Wei Zhao! Who told him to pee on me and set off firecrackers on my backside? I'll have my revenge! I'll make him fall in love with me, and then I'll die right in front of him and break his heart! Go for it, Xiaoxiao!"

Wei Zhao broke out in a sweat reading this. No way? He had felt for some time that something was off about Feng Xiaoxiao—the shift from hostility toward him to liking him had been a bit too fast, hadn't it? He checked the date of the annotation: it was exactly the day Feng Xiaoxiao's attitude toward him had changed...

Only, beneath this annotation there was yet another one, and when Wei Zhao read it he could not help but give a sigh!

"So this is what love feels like? It's wonderful. I do so hope I can go on living..."

The date of this annotation was last night, and reading it, Wei Zhao's heart was unquestionably heavy!

The meaning of this annotation was already plain: Feng Xiaoxiao had evidently begun to change from the attitude of revenge she had held at the very start... She wanted to go on living—so what was all this talk of revenge?

Wei Zhao smiled bitterly. He feared Feng Xiaoxiao's pretense had become reality!

But this particular wish was one that was in the process of coming true, all but fulfilled already, and there was no need for Wei Zhao to agonize over it any further.

Whatever Feng Xiaoxiao's original purpose in liking him, Wei Zhao could understand and forgive it. In fact, thinking carefully about her background and her temperament, he did not blame her for having gone so far back then.

Imagine if it had been Shen Yushu: never mind firecrackers tied to her backside, even if someone had doused her head with piss, she would have gone berserk and fought to the bitter end.

Yet Feng Xiaoxiao had actually chosen a strategy of trading a thousand of the enemy for eight hundred of her own, dating Wei Zhao in the hope that after he fell in love with her she would be taken from him. In truth, this was no revenge at all, but an indulgence of the final moments of her life.

Wei Zhao closed this wish and went on to read the next.

"Today I saw a TV show where the hero and heroine watched the sunrise together by the sea and cooked breakfast together with seawater. So romantic! I want that too... but I want to eat fried eggs!"

Reading this rather fantastical wish of Feng Xiaoxiao's, Wei Zhao could not help finding it a little amusing. Fried eggs? Eating fried eggs while watching the sunrise? Somehow the two just did not go together. But since it was Feng Xiaoxiao's wish, he photographed it with his phone anyway. After all, this one would be relatively easy to satisfy.

Time was short. Having closed this wish, Wei Zhao hurried on to the next.

"Xu Shilan is so beautiful! If only I were a boy, I could push her down..."

Wei Zhao had barely opened this wish of Feng Xiaoxiao's before he was left scorched and tender inside, this wish seemed to be one he could not fulfill for her. Was he supposed to send Feng Xiaoxiao off for a sex-change operation?

But that was only the first half of the sentence, there was more after it, and Wei Zhao read on.

"I've decided, I'm handing this arduous task to my boyfriend. Let my boyfriend push her down, and then the three of us can play together... hahaha... Xiaoxiao, you really are a top-tier genius! But it seems to be a pipe dream?"

After reading the second half, Wei Zhao nearly hurled Feng Xiaoxiao's phone away... Wasn't that a bit too vicious? The more he thought about it, the more he felt that if Feng Xiaoxiao did not die, she would surely get along famously with Shen Yushu. From a certain angle, the two had a great deal in common, and their ideas were equally outrageous.

Even so, Wei Zhao still photographed this wish of Feng Xiaoxiao's. Mm, when he had the chance he would ask that big star named Xu Shilan whether she was a lesbian. If she was, then Feng Xiaoxiao's wish could still be fulfilled.
