Chapter 970 — Xiaoxiao Has a Date

The Blossom Guardian

"Why aren't you answering?" Tang Zhi asked, puzzled, when she saw Wei Zhao pick up the phone but not immediately take the call.

"It's Feng Xiaoxiao," Wei Zhao said.

"Oh..." At the sound of that name, Tang Zhi's expression visibly froze for a moment, but she still said, "Then hurry and answer it. What if it's something important?"

"Mn." Wei Zhao nodded and took the call. "Xiaoxiao?"

"Wei Zhao, I'm back in Songshan City! Where are you? Did you miss me?" Feng Xiaoxiao's voice was as sunny as ever—a far cry from the somewhat sorrowful Feng Xiaoxiao who had sat in the car talking with her father not long ago.

If not for the fact that Feng Xiaoxiao truly suffered from an incurable illness, no one would ever believe that such a large sorrow could dwell in the heart of this giggling, playful girl.

"I'm at school," Wei Zhao said. "If it's as a classmate, then I suppose I've missed you a little."

"Tch..." Feng Xiaoxiao sounded displeased at his words. "Fine then, Classmate Lin, is it all right for you to just casually grope a classmate's chest?"

Wei Zhao was startled. This Feng Xiaoxiao really did dare to say anything. Fortunately her voice was not loud, and Tang Zhi had not heard. "Is there something you need?"

"Didn't you promise to treat me to a meal? I'm a bit hungry now—come find me?" Feng Xiaoxiao did not press that other topic any further. Some things only needed to be brought up now and then so that Wei Zhao would remember; if you harped on them constantly, they lost all meaning.

"Now?" Wei Zhao frowned slightly.

"Mn, I just got to Songshan City and haven't eaten yet!" Feng Xiaoxiao said. "You promised me—you'd treat me to beef noodles, and the time would be up to me!"

"Well, all right then." Wei Zhao had no choice but to agree. He was a man of his word; once he had promised Feng Xiaoxiao, he would see it through. Besides, deep down he did feel somewhat indebted to her.

Although he had no idea what game Feng Xiaoxiao was playing, he had, after all, touched a rather private part of her body. Even if only the two of them knew of the matter, if Feng Xiaoxiao chose to make a fuss and accuse Wei Zhao of being a shameless rogue, he would simply have to accept it. After all, he really had been somewhat bewitched at the time—he had done it on purpose...

What was more, Feng Xiaoxiao had done him a great favor at the auction, securing the Ten-Thousand-Year Springwood Box in her hands!

"I'll drive over to the school gate now—meet me there," Feng Xiaoxiao said.

"All right." Wei Zhao nodded in agreement.

After hanging up, Wei Zhao mused for a moment, then said to Tang Zhi, "I'm going out for a bit..."

"Oh... okay." Tang Zhi nodded. She wanted to ask Wei Zhao what he was going out for, but asking seemed as though she did not trust him and was meddling in his private affairs. Tang Zhi was so conflicted! Yet now, with the young heiress as her rival right before her, Tang Zhi had become cautious and careful...

"While I was in Yanjing, Xiaoxiao did me a big favor, and I promised to treat her to a meal. Now that she's back, she called me!" Though Tang Zhi had not asked for details, Wei Zhao still explained the whole business to her.

"Oh, then it's only right that you treat her." Tang Zhi smiled and nodded. "It's fine—go on. I'll just eat by myself in the cafeteria!"

"All right, then. If anything comes up, call me anytime." Wei Zhao left Tang Zhi with that instruction, then rose and left the cafeteria, heading in the direction of the school gate.

Toward Feng Xiaoxiao, Wei Zhao harbored a tangled, hard-to-define emotion. To be honest, he had once taken her for nothing more than a spoiled rich girl, but that business by the seaside had shown him that perhaps that was not so—especially after learning she was Feng Tianlong's daughter, his feelings toward her had grown all the more complicated.

Truth be told, Wei Zhao felt a little sorry for this girl. She had grown up without a mother, while her father was always busy out in the world, and that had shaped the person she was. In fact, after learning of her background, Wei Zhao understood her, and his former dislike of her had faded.

She was a cheerful girl brimming with passion for life; only by drawing close to her could one glimpse, in the small details that are easy to overlook, the loneliness and sorrow within her heart.

Feng Xiaoxiao was still driving her Audi TT. She pulled up beside Wei Zhao and leaned out from the driver's seat. "Wei Zhao! Getting in?"

Wei Zhao said nothing. He walked over, opened the door, and sat down in the passenger seat.

"Hey, what's with the long face?" Feng Xiaoxiao was a little displeased at Wei Zhao's silence. "Did I interrupt your flirting?"

"I was just about to eat in the cafeteria with Tang Zhi," Wei Zhao said.

"So I did interrupt your flirting. But you could flirt with me instead—who's prettier, me or Tang Zhi?" Feng Xiaoxiao batted her big eyes and turned to look at Wei Zhao.

"Tang Zhi," Wei Zhao said.

"Hmph!" The smile on Feng Xiaoxiao's face turned to frost, and she glared at Wei Zhao. "Don't you even know how to sweet-talk a girl? Can't you say something nice? Can't you even lie to me?"

"Fine, then. You're pretty," Wei Zhao said.

"Boring. Let's go eat." Looking at Wei Zhao's face, which was written all over with "I'm lying to you," Feng Xiaoxiao lost interest at once. Why couldn't she ever seduce Wei Zhao? Was she really so much worse than Tang Zhi?

Feng Xiaoxiao started the car, but she did not drive far. She parked in front of a nearby beef noodle shop.

Wei Zhao was taken aback. He had not expected Feng Xiaoxiao to bring him to a place like this. It was not an expensive place. Back when Feng Xiaoxiao had asked him to treat her to a meal, Wei Zhao had even thought she would fleece him the way she fleeced Wu Chengtian.

Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao went into the noodle shop together and found a table for two.

"Would you two wait just a moment? I'll take your order right away!" The waiter was standing at the table of a mother and daughter not far away, taking their order.

"Sure. We'll have a look at the menu first." Wei Zhao nodded indifferently and picked up the menu from the table.

"Excuse me... could we have one bowl of noodles... please?" the mother of the pair asked the waiter, looking at the menu in her hand with some embarrassment.
