Chapter 920 — High-Handed Accusations

The Blossom Guardian

"Ah?" Gu Pengzhan started. The man's abrupt entrance had given him quite a fright. "If I may ask, are you Mr. Wei Zhizun?"

"Wei himself, yes!" The Daoist-robed man nodded. "Your security here is truly third-rate. With skills like that, they dare show their faces and make a spectacle of themselves?"

No sooner had Wei Zhizun finished speaking than the phone on Gu Pengzhan's desk rang. Gu Pengzhan picked it up with a bitter smile. It was, as expected, the security captain, reporting that an exceedingly overbearing man had barged straight into the company, demanded Gu Pengzhan by name, and injured two guards!

Gu Pengzhan was rather at a loss for words, but at a moment like this he could hardly blame Wei Zhizun—after all, until Uncle Qing's junior fellow disciple arrived, he still had to rely on this man. So he simply told the security captain that it was nothing, and to send the two injured guards to the hospital for treatment.

"Mr. Wei, your skills are extraordinary, but there is no need to hold grudges against ordinary folk, is there?" Gu Pengzhan hung up and rose to his feet. "The safety of myself and my daughter will depend entirely on you from now on, Mr. Wei!"

"You are too kind, too kind!" Wei Zhizun said with great haughtiness. "Wei is a supreme expert of the Profound Rank. Keeping you safe is no problem at all. However, as for the matter of your commission..."

"The people at the Vanguard Company have already told me. A commission of two hundred thousand a month—that is no problem at all!" Gu Pengzhan nodded, though inwardly he thought of Wei Zhao. Thirty thousand really was cheap, but that price had been set by the old master of his own household back then, and he had no authority to interfere.

"No, that is the company's price!" Wei Zhizun shook his head. "The money you pay goes to the company. On top of that, you must pay me three hundred thousand a month!"

"That..." Gu Pengzhan was taken aback. He had not expected Wei Zhizun to truly open his mouth as wide as a lion's.

"What? You cannot afford it? Then Wei has no choice but to take his leave!" As he spoke, Wei Zhizun rose to depart.

"Mr. Wei, do not be angry. Very well, three hundred thousand it is!" Gu Pengzhan had no choice but to agree. Five hundred thousand to hire himself an overlord—and yet he had no choice but to keep him!

"Now that is what I said! Five hundred thousand for a supreme expert of the Profound Rank—you are making out extraordinarily well!" Wei Zhizun nodded and laughed heartily.

Gu Pengzhan did not understand the ranking of strength very clearly and had no idea what level of power a Profound-Rank supreme expert actually represented, but it certainly sounded formidable. Presumably the man's strength was not weak—otherwise, without real ability, he would never dare open his mouth so wide and raise the price on the spot like that.

"Very well, then according to the contract, there is a one-month trial period, and the salary is formally settled starting next month?" Gu Pengzhan asked.

"That is the company's rule!" Wei Zhizun shook his head. "Wei's own rule is a trial period of one day. The salary is settled starting tomorrow!"

"Fine, no problem!" Gu Pengzhan sighed. This Vanguard outfit was far too full of itself—who exactly was the employer here?

Still, the man was not wrong either. A Profound-Rank expert coming to serve as a bodyguard for an ordinary man—without the lure of great profit, how could that ever be?

But just as the two were speaking, the office door was pushed open once more, and three people strode in, arrogant as could be!

This time even the security captain downstairs did not dare to stop them. Who knew what sort of people would come calling today? Earlier a strange old Daoist had arrived and, at a single cross word, struck and wounded men. Now these three said not a word and simply stormed furiously inward!

"Where is Gu Pengzhan? You have some nerve—even the Xiao family dares not provoke you?" The moment Xiao Ji entered, he seized the initiative with a thunderous shout!

Gu Pengzhan had met Xiao Ji before and knew he was of the Xiao family. The Gu Group and the Xiao family had done business together in the past. He knew a thing or two about the Xiao family's recent troubles as well, and he knew they were investing in Songshan City. He simply had no idea why the Xiao family would suddenly appear in his office, seemingly to settle accounts!

"Mr. Xiao, might I ask how I have offended your Xiao family?" Gu Pengzhan looked at the murderous Xiao Ji and Xiao Ben in some bewilderment. Had these two made some mistake? The Gu Group's recent business had nothing to do with the Xiao family, let alone any offense given to its people.

"Your daughter humiliated my wife, Gou Huli!" Xiao Ji sneered. "We of the Xiao family have only just arrived in Songshan City, and already you mean to give us a show of force? Do you take us for a family in ruin, now that our old master has just passed? A tiger fallen to the flatlands is bullied by dogs!"

"Mr. Xiao Ji, what do you mean by that? When did my daughter ever humiliate your wife?" Gu Pengzhan frowned. "And as for a show of force, that is even more baseless. The Gu Group has done business with the Xiao family before. I cannot welcome your investment here soon enough—why would I bully you?"

"Hmph! Fine words! A lean camel is still bigger than a horse, and we of the Xiao family are still that camel. You, one of the largest groups in this city, are simply afraid we have come to steal your business, are you not?" Xiao Ji snorted. "And so you set your daughter on my wife, heaping humiliation upon her, all to strike down the Xiao family's standing in Songshan City!"

"Mr. Xiao Ji, the more I listen, the more confused I become. Business is business, and where there is business there is buying and selling. It is only when there are many players that you can call it a market. Why would I fear you coming to steal my business?" Though doubt filled Gu Pengzhan's heart, Xiao Ji had spoken with such apparent conviction that Gu Pengzhan could not shake a faint sense that something was badly wrong. It looked very much as though the Xiao family had come deliberately to make trouble.

"Enough, Mr. Gu. We are all sensible people here, so let us not waste words!" Xiao Ben, who had stood silent at the side all this while, now spoke up. "Whether it happened or not, just ask your daughter and you will know. She and someone called Xiao Shu ganged up to bully and humiliate my sister-in-law, Gou Huli. Do you think we would invent such a thing out of thin air?"

Gu Pengzhan was taken aback. Since Xiao Ben said his daughter had been with Xiao Shu, then clearly this was likely no fabrication. Could Yaoyao really have offended this Gou Huli again?

"Very well. Since Mr. Xiao insists so firmly, I will first verify this with my daughter..." Gu Pengzhan had no choice but to nod and say.

"Be quick about it. Our patience has its limits!" There was a note of command in Xiao Ji's voice.

Gu Pengzhan sighed inwardly. Misfortunes truly never came singly to his household of late. For no apparent reason he had provoked a certain Zhen Yingjun, who had not only abducted his daughter but extorted a huge sum of money from him, and worst of all had left both Xiaoyi and Li Fu badly injured!
