Chapter 909 — Wei Zhao's Final Decision
Ma Zhu nodded. He knew Zhao Qibing was telling the truth.
"Has Wei Zhao made any other enemies lately? Now would be the time to get them to move against him!" Zhao Qibing turned to look at Li Cihua and asked.
"Hmm... apart from An Liwen, there's only Zhong Yongliang left!" Li Cihua said with some helplessness. "Those are the only two I know of. But An Liwen has been quiet lately, and Zhong Yongliang has come over to your side, Young Master Bing... neither of them is any match for Wei Zhao! Oh, that reminds me — a few days ago, when Xiao Ji of the Xiao family came to visit me, he seemed to be asking, ever so casually, about Gu Pengzhan and the experts around him..."
"Oh? Did you receive them? Did you tell him about Gu Pengzhan?" Zhao Qibing asked.
"The Xiao family and we have never had any quarrel — our relations have actually been quite good. Word is they're about to be kicked out of the ranks of the great families by the Yu family, but a camel starved to death is still bigger than a horse; the Xiao family still has its uses, so naturally I treated them well," Li Cihua said. "As for Gu Pengzhan, of course I told him. From his tone, it was obvious he has a grudge against Gu Pengzhan, so I gave Xiao Ji all the information on the two experts around Gu Pengzhan. But when Xiao Ji heard that Wei Zhao was an early-stage Profound-rank expert, he seemed to hesitate, and said nothing more!"
"Oh? In that case, first find a few small-time thugs to probe Wei Zhao and see whether he still has any strength left. If he really is finished, then we spread the word!" Zhao Qibing thought for a moment. "I refuse to believe that Wei Zhao and Gu Pengzhan have no enemies besides us. From the look of it, the Xiao family probably wants to move against them too. We need only sit back and reap the rewards!"
"Yes!" Li Cihua nodded and withdrew...
After leaving the villa, Wei Zhao drove straight to Pengzhan Department Store. Before his date with Tang Zhi, he needed to make some preparations!
Wei Zhao made no effort to shake the little tails near the villa. He had more or less guessed that they were sent by Zhao Qibing. After Zhen Yingjun and Ma Zhu were injured, they would surely have gone to that Medicine King Zhao for treatment, so it was only natural for Zhao Qibing to send people to spy on him.
The more Wei Zhao ignored them and acted as though nothing were wrong, the more he could confound them, making them believe his strength had fully recovered.
What Wei Zhao had not counted on was Uncle Qing. He had overlooked the fact that Zhao Qibing had even put Uncle Qing under surveillance.
But even if Wei Zhao had known, it would have changed nothing. He had only recovered from his external injuries; the internal damage to his meridians had not improved in the slightest. Never mind treating Uncle Qing — he could barely look after himself!
Wei Zhao drove openly to the Pengzhan Department Store building, precisely so that people would think he was uninjured! He had to conceal this news as best he could, and keep concealing it until Gu Pengzhan found a capable expert to take his place!
Wei Zhao had meant to leave the next day, but then he remembered that Zhen Yingjun's troubles were not yet fully resolved. If Gu Pengzhan did not find a substitute bodyguard, Wei Zhao would not feel easy about leaving. So he could only grit his teeth and hold on, keeping a low profile and taking care not to give anyone a handle against him.
What Wei Zhao did not realize was that the Medicine King had already guessed his true strength, and a plan to test him was quietly unfolding!
Wei Zhao parked his car in the underground garage of the Pengzhan Building, asked a security guard for directions, and made his way to the jewelry section on the first floor.
"Hello, sir. Are you looking for jewelry?" Wei Zhao had no sooner reached a counter named "Liu Weishan Jewelry" than a saleswoman came over and asked warmly.
"Yes." Wei Zhao nodded. He had not expected such good service from this jewelry company; he had meant only to browse, but now he decided to buy here.
In truth, every jewelry shop in the Pengzhan Building carried much the same goods. What set them apart was mainly the service.
"What would you like to choose, sir? For yourself, or as a gift for a friend?" the saleswoman asked.
"I'd like to buy a ring for my girlfriend," Wei Zhao said.
"A ring? For your girlfriend?" The saleswoman nodded. "Is it an ordinary gift, or a proposal ring?"
"A proposal ring, I suppose..." Wei Zhao sighed softly. She was the first girl to become officially involved with him, and on the eve of his departure, Wei Zhao had made a decision.
"Then over here, sir — these are all wedding rings. What price range did you have in mind? They run from a few thousand yuan to tens of thousands..." The saleswoman gestured toward the rings in a display case.
"This one, then. How much is it?" Wei Zhao knew nothing about jewelry and had little idea how to choose, so he picked a ring with a slightly larger diamond — because he had heard that with diamond rings, the bigger the diamond, the better.
"This one..." The salesgirl was taken aback. What Wei Zhao had set his eyes on was the store's crowning treasure! Her heart thumped. If it actually sold, the commission would be enormous! She had only started working here two days ago; if she could really close this sale, she would make a killing!
"What's the matter?" Wei Zhao asked, seeing the salesgirl hesitate.
"Nothing..." The salesgirl shook her head. "This ring is the store's crowning treasure. It's kept locked in the counter. Would you wait a moment? I'll call the manager and have him come open it for you!"
"All right," Wei Zhao said with a nod.
The salesgirl was just about to make the call when a saleswoman from the neighboring shop, a place called Yunguangdu Jewelry, glanced at the girl before Wei Zhao with a hint of mockery. "Ask him whether he can afford it before you call. Carrying on like that, on the phone all day long, you'll waste yourself to death on phone bills alone!"
Wei Zhao frowned. What business was it of hers if he bought jewelry? Was she jealous because he hadn't bought from her shop? But Wei Zhao had no wish to stir up trouble just now, and he forced down his temper and said nothing.
"I'm sorry, sir. Please pay her no mind." The salesgirl gave Wei Zhao an embarrassed smile, then went on with her call.
"Hmph! No good deed goes unpunished!" The saleswoman from Yunguangdu Jewelry gave a cold snort and turned away. She was indeed a little jealous of Liu Weishan Jewelry's sales, and so she had deliberately made those cutting remarks, hoping to drive the customers away from the other side. "Look at what he's wearing. Could a man like that ever afford your crowning treasure?"
