Chapter 828 — Young Master Jun's Designs

The Blossom Guardian

Because Wei Zhao's manner with the two of them was not particularly intimate—and besides, Wei Zhao already had a girlfriend—Zou Ruoguang did not treat Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu with the same deference he showed Tang Zhi. He merely greeted Wei Zhao and then took his leave.

"Brother Zou, you know that kid? What's his background, that he's worth all that bowing and scraping?" Zhen Yingjun's gaze had never once left Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. A flicker of jealousy toward Wei Zhao in his voice, he asked, "From my years of experience chasing women, I can tell you—these two are top-tier."

One was pure and lovely, the other petite and adorable. Though they wore only ordinary tracksuits, their beauty could not be concealed.

Zou Ruoguang was a little older than Zhen Yingjun, which was why Zhen Yingjun called him Brother Zou.

"His name is Wei Zhao. He's highly skilled in a fight—not someone to cross!" Though Zou Ruoguang felt that saying so somewhat undercut his own standing, when it came to Wei Zhao, he simply could not put on a strong front.

"Highly skilled? What good does that do?" Zhen Yingjun said with a hint of scorn. "No matter how good you are, you can't take on a crowd. A man like that doesn't deserve that much face."

"A crowd?" Zou Ruoguang smiled bitterly. "Put it this way—Uncle Yan, one of our Yellow-Rank experts, was injured by him..."

"Brawling and showing off—that gets you nowhere." Zhen Yingjun remained dismissive. "Even if he can handle a Yellow-Rank expert, is he tougher than guns? That's flat-out impossible!"

Zhen Yingjun's family was in the underworld too, and not on a small scale—far bigger than Zou Tiandi's. They had no shortage of unlicensed firearms, so in his eyes, all this martial arts business was nonsense. Against guns, it amounted to nothing.

Zou Ruoguang shrugged. Since Zhen Yingjun did not believe him, there was nothing more he could say. After all, the two families were merely partners now, with the Zhen family in the driver's seat; saying too much would only make it seem as though he had some ulterior motive.

"Those two girls are quite something. Are they his women?" Zhen Yingjun asked, his interest clearly piqued.

"That doesn't seem to be the case." Zou Ruoguang shook his head. "Wei Zhao has a girlfriend. I've met her."

"Oh, so they're just ordinary friends?" Zhen Yingjun nodded. "Those two—I've taken a fancy to them!"

"Young Master Jun, if you go about it the normal way, there's no problem. But it'd be best not to use force—I'm afraid that Wei Zhao might step in..." Zou Ruoguang felt compelled to warn him.

"I know, I know. I, Zhen Yingjun, have chased countless women. Two little girls? They'll be eating out of my hand in no time." Zhen Yingjun did not take Zou Ruoguang's words seriously at all. In truth, he had never taken Wei Zhao seriously either.

Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu played the arcade games for a while and found them boring—nothing but straight racing or straight-up fighting and shooting. There was no fun in any of it; it was not even as enjoyable as the console at home.

"Yao, how's it going over there? How many levels have you cleared?" Shen Yushu burned through her last game token, then stood up, somewhat dispirited. "These games really aren't fun. It's just one person pounding away endlessly. I don't see the point."

"I don't know. I don't think I've cleared a single level?" Gu Mengyao was no great gamer either. She had been playing a side-scrolling beat-'em-up, and after ages she was still stuck on the first level, though she had burned through quite a few tokens.

Watching from the side, Wei Zhao found it rather amusing. These arcades made their money off novices like them. Plenty of people could loop a single token for ages—at that rate, forget turning a profit; they couldn't even cover the electricity bill.

"This is boring. Let's go check out the other machines." Shen Yushu stood up, giving up on the idea of playing any further.

"All right." Gu Mengyao had come here with the idea of seeing something new and broadening her horizons; whether she played well or not did not matter.

Wei Zhao did not play either. He simply followed behind Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. Though he had never played most of these games, the majority tested reaction speed, and that was no challenge for him.

"It's crowded over there. Shall we go take a look?" Shen Yushu had spotted a corner of the arcade drawing a huge crowd, with people intermittently letting out cheers and groans.

When Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu walked over, they saw that it was a row of gambling machines—a bewildering variety, but all of them serving one purpose: gambling in some form or another.

This sort of thing was already illegal, but the profits were so enormous that it had become the main source of income for many arcades—which was why Zou Ruoguang could hardly be blamed for operating in defiance of the rules.

Although there were winners here too, most people won little and lost plenty. Only a handful had come out slightly ahead; the great majority walked away dejected.

"Sister Yaoyao, this looks like fun, doesn't it? Want to give it a try?" Shen Yushu thought this was far more entertaining than those monster-bashing games.

"Xiaoshu, this looks like gambling. You can't play." Gu Mengyao, however, saw it clearly and grasped the nature of this kind of game machine at a glance.

"It's just a bit of fun, a little taste of it. It's not like I'll get hooked," Shen Yushu said, curiosity getting the better of her.

"Let her try it." Wei Zhao was fairly confident in Gu Mengyao's and Shen Yushu's self-control. Neither girl had any bad habits, and neither was the type to obsess over anything. Wei Zhao figured Shen Yushu was just taken with it for the moment; after a few rounds, she would find it dull.

After all, they weren't short of money, and they didn't care much for it either, so the thrill of winning and losing was hard for them to appreciate.

"Oh, even Brother Arrowhead says it's fine..." Shen Yushu looked pitifully at Gu Mengyao.

"Then these are the last few tokens. Once you've lost them, no more playing." Gu Mengyao hesitated for a moment before handing the remaining tokens to Shen Yushu.

Shen Yushu took the tokens and happily ran off to play the gambling machines.

Winning with only a few tokens was obviously unrealistic. The result was much as Wei Zhao had expected: Shen Yushu fed four or five tokens into the machine and they vanished without a trace. Only one token remained.

"Ahhh, that's it? All gone already?" Shen Yushu stared at the last token in her hand, instantly peeved. "At least let me win once?"

Wei Zhao shrugged. He knew a great many things, but he couldn't control a gambling machine. Electronic devices like this always had a control terminal somewhere, and there was no way Wei Zhao could locate it in a short time to tamper with the data. RO
