Chapter 770 — The Building Collapsed Again
"By my reckoning, the time should be about right. The timed bomb in Wei Zhao's car ought to be going off any second now, shouldn't it?" Zhang Yuzhou said, glancing at his watch.
"Yes. Cihua, go turn on the TV. I expect the news will be reporting it soon enough," Zhao Qibing ordered Li Cihua.
"Yes, Young Master Bing!" Li Cihua turned to switch on the television, but just at that moment his phone rang.
Li Cihua pulled it out instinctively and took a look. It was Wei Zhao calling. He hesitated a moment, then pressed the answer button anyway. He had no idea what Wei Zhao could want at a time like this, but the thought of hearing the instant Wei Zhao was blown to bits over the phone was a pleasant one.
"Hello? Wei Zhao, what is it?" Li Cihua asked, feigning indifference.
"Cihua, old pal? Something's just come up that I need to take care of, so I'm leaving the car parked at your place for now. If anything happens to it, I'll be looking to you lot for compensation!" That was all Wei Zhao said before hanging up outright.
"Hello? What do you mean? What are you talking about? ... Gah?" Li Cihua suddenly let out a cry of alarm, his eyes fixed straight on the monitor screen, his whole body frozen on the spot as though struck by a paralysis spell.
"What are you doing?" Zhao Qibing, startled by Li Cihua's sudden "Gah!", snapped at him in annoyance.
"Young Master Bing, Young Master Bing, bad news, bad news — he's back, he's back!" Only then, jolted by Zhao Qibing's scolding, did Li Cihua snap out of his shock. Pointing a trembling finger at the monitor screen, he cried out in alarm: "He's back!"
"What's back?" Zhao Qibing was taken aback.
"Wei Zhao! Wei Zhao is back!" Li Cihua said urgently. "Wei Zhao has driven the car back into the underground parking garage!"
"What? What did you say?" Zhao Qibing was thrown into a panic at Li Cihua's words. He whipped his head around to look at the monitor screen and was instantly struck dumb! There, in the underground parking garage of Qibing Tower, Wei Zhao's beat-up old van had appeared once again! "Quick, get that car out of there!"
"We don't have the keys! Even if we pushed it out now, there'd be no time — less than five minutes before the bomb goes off!" Zhang Yuzhou had seen the scene on the monitor too. Trembling all over, he pointed at his watch and said, "Young Master Bing, we'd better run for our lives!"
"Then go take the bomb off and throw it away!" Young Master Bing was badly startled and hastily gave the order.
"Young Master Bing, there's no time, and besides — who'd dare go near it?" Li Cihua paused to think, and managed to stay fairly calm. "Even going down by elevator will take us at least two minutes. We should just run for it!"
"Damn it all — then get me downstairs right now! Wei Zhao, you son of a bitch! You double-crossing bastard!" Young Master Bing's eyes were bloodshot; he was about to burst with rage!
Li Cihua did not dare linger either. He pushed Young Master Bing straight into the elevator, with Su Jiaonang and Zhang Yuzhou following behind. The moment the four of them stepped out of the elevator, they bolted frantically out of the building. Zhao Qibing no longer cared how badly the wheelchair jolted — all the way he kept urging them on: "Faster, faster, faster! Hurry!"
Stumbling and scrambling, the four of them finally made it out of the building. They had just reached the far side of the street when they heard a tremendous "boom," followed by the rumbling roar of the tower coming down. In an instant, the grand, imposing, brand-new Qibing Tower was reduced to a heap of rubble!
Watching his newly built tower collapse just like that, Zhao Qibing was left with no tears to cry.
Gone? Gone again? Zhao Qibing felt as though he were dreaming. The first tower had stood for barely a day before it came down. The second tower had likewise stood for barely a day before it came down too! At this rate, he was surely unmatched in all of history and would have no equal in ages to come.
Li Cihua's face had gone ashen as well. He had never imagined Wei Zhao would pull a stunt like this! It was too underhanded. Driving the car back with less than five minutes to spare — who would dare touch it then? Even knowing full well there was a bomb inside, no one would dare go near it!
"Hell! What kind of bomb is that? How can it have that much power?" Zhao Qibing demanded, his eyes wide and bloodshot.
"TNT. I was afraid it wouldn't be enough to kill Wei Zhao — after all, he's a Yellow-rank expert — so I used high-grade TNT..." Zhang Yuzhou said meekly.
"You goddamned son of a — my tower!" Zhao Qibing was on the verge of tears. Was it easy for him? His first tower had been torn down by Wei Zhao the moment it was finished, and now his second tower had been blown up by Wei Zhao the moment it was finished too...
But whose fault was it, really? Wei Zhao's, or his own? Zhao Qibing felt utterly humiliated. The bomb had been meant to blow Wei Zhao to pieces, yet in the end Wei Zhao had not been blown up at all — instead, his own tower had been blasted into flat ground!
This was just too unfair. If the building had blown up together with Wei Zhao, Zhao Qibing would have accepted it — as long as Wei Zhao was dead, losing a building would have been a loss he could live with. The problem was that Wei Zhao had come out without a scratch!
"Young Master Bing, I never expected this either... If I'd known, I would have used plain explosives..." Seeing Zhao Qibing's face, now twisted out of all shape, Zhang Yuzhou hastened to explain, his voice betraying a distinct lack of confidence.
"Wei Zhao, if I don't do you in, my name isn't Zhao Qibing! ***You son of a bitch!***" Zhao Qibing did not blame Zhang Yuzhou. A debt has a head, and a wrong has a master — Zhang Yuzhou had meant well. He had been afraid the blast would not kill Wei Zhao, and so he had used high-powered explosives. How could Zhao Qibing hold it against him? The only one to blame here was Wei Zhao, for being too devious. If Wei Zhao had not driven the car back again, would the building have come down?
But just at that moment, Li Cihua's cell phone rang.
"It's Wei Zhao..." Li Cihua glanced at the caller ID on the screen and said cautiously.
"Answer it. See what he has to say!" Zhao Qibing said through gritted teeth.
"Hello?" Li Cihua picked up.
"Brother Cihua, what's happened to your building? My car is still down there in the underground garage! You people are being far too irresponsible — you'll have to compensate me for my losses!" Wei Zhao's voice on the line sounded as though he were badly rattled.
"......" Li Cihua very much wanted to curse, but after a moment's hesitation he held his tongue.
Zhao Qibing, standing beside him, had heard what Wei Zhao was saying as well. He reached out a hand toward Li Cihua: "Give me the phone!"
Li Cihua hurriedly handed the phone to Zhao Qibing.
"Wei Zhao? You've got nerve, I'll grant you that. Just you wait and see!" Zhao Qibing said venomously.
"Young Master Bing, what are you talking about? I don't follow. Right now it's my car that's come to grief in your building — surely you're the ones who ought to be paying compensation?" Wei Zhao said mildly. "Have you got something dangerous stashed away in that building? Otherwise, perhaps I should go to the police?"
