Chapter 763 — The Young Miss's Heartfelt Thanks

The Blossom Guardian

That was why Wei Zhao had asked Yu Kun that one question earlier — and once he received a negative answer, he had struck to kill without hesitation.

"Rest assured, Mr. Gu. With me here, no one will harm Yaoyao or Little Shu," Wei Zhao said to Gu Mengyao.

"Yes, with you here, I have nothing to worry about." Gu Pengzhan patted Wei Zhao's shoulder. "Since everything is settled, I will be on my way. You two should get some rest early as well?"

"Uncle Chu, go on ahead. Everything is fine here..." Wei Zhao rose and saw Qing Bo and Gu Pengzhan out.

In the courtyard, Qing Bo first opened the car door for Gu Pengzhan and helped him in, then glanced at Wei Zhao, seeming to want to say something but hesitating.

"Ha, Qing Bo, I never would have guessed you were an expert at the peak of the late Yellow Stage?" Wei Zhao could tell Qing Bo had something on his mind, so he spoke first.

Wei Zhao's impression of Qing Bo was still quite favorable. Setting everything else aside, having an expert at the peak of the late Yellow Stage deliver meals to the villa every day was no small feat!

"With my meager strength, how could I compare to you?" Qing Bo shook his head with a bitter smile. "That dog..."

"I don't quite know what happened myself. I fed it too much energy... true qi, and it ended up in this state..." Wei Zhao also smiled bitterly at the mention of the Mighty General. It was only natural that Qing Bo could discern the Mighty General's strength.

After all, the Mighty General was not like a human — it had no idea how to conceal its strength. So anyone who practiced martial arts could see the Mighty General's true power at a glance.

"I never thought I would live to see a Yellow Stage dog... Experts of the Yellow Stage are already very rare. If word got out that someone kept a high-rank Yellow Stage dog at home, I wonder whether people would be frightened to death?" Qing Bo shook his head and said to Wei Zhao, "The young miss's safety is in your hands. I will be going now."

"Yes. Goodbye, Qing Bo." Wei Zhao nodded, watched Qing Bo's car drive away, and went back into the villa.

The Mighty General's recovery had delighted Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, washing away all their earlier unhappiness. At this moment they were playing happily with the Mighty General in the living room. Seeing Wei Zhao come in, Gu Mengyao very solemnly carried the Mighty General over to him and said to it, "Come, Mighty General, let us thank Wei Zhao together!"

"Ha?" Wei Zhao smiled. "No need to thank me. As long as you are not sad anymore, that is enough."

"Thank you, Wei Zhao." The young miss, however, spoke with utter seriousness. "You have no idea what the Mighty General means to me... It is very important to me! It has been with me all these years, from childhood on..."

"I know. That is why I saved it," Wei Zhao nodded.

Gu Mengyao was slightly taken aback, but on reflection it made sense — she had been so grief-stricken earlier that Wei Zhao must have seen it. "Wei Zhao, you have not rested yet, have you? It is already past three. Hurry and get some rest?"

"Oh, right. You two should sleep early as well?" Wei Zhao was too embarrassed to admit he had already slept, since the young miss and Shen Yushu had been waiting anxiously at the door the whole time.

After returning to his room, Wei Zhao did not sleep. He lay on the bed thinking about the Yu family.

He had thought his life would never again intersect with the Yu family — yet the Yu family had come knocking on his door of their own accord?

Xiao Ning... are you one of them?

Wei Zhao sighed softly, and that peerless face surfaced once more in his mind.

He wondered how she was doing now. Wei Zhao sighed again. How should he face her?

Several hours slipped by in the blink of an eye. Wei Zhao lay in bed, his thoughts wandering, until noise once again came from the living room.

The young miss and Little Shu are awake?

Wei Zhao glanced at the time — it should be about right. He climbed out of bed, pushed the door open, and stepped outside, only to be greeted by a most astonishing sight!

The young miss and Little Shu were actually bustling about in the kitchen, doing God knows what?

"Little Shu, you big idiot! The internet says you're supposed to pour the oil first — how come you put the eggs in first?" Gu Mengyao's furious voice rang out from the kitchen.

"Oh... I don't know," Shen Yushu replied in a feeble voice. "I thought you were supposed to put the eggs in and then simmer them in soybean oil..."

"Forget it — no oil is healthier anyway..." Gu Mengyao was more than a little speechless. But before she could even catch her breath, another problem arose.

A crackling, popping sound suddenly came from the rice cooker!

"Little Shu, what did you do this time?" Gu Mengyao instinctively rushed to the rice cooker. One careful listen and she nearly jumped out of her skin. She hurriedly lifted the lid, only to be struck speechless with frustration: "You didn't even add water! How is this supposed to make porridge?"

"Oh, I thought the water was supposed to be added afterward..." Shen Yushu said.

"You idiot! I should never have let you be my assistant! With cooking skills like yours, don't ever expect to get married!" Gu Mengyao was so exasperated she wanted to kick her out of the kitchen.

"Oh, Brother Jianpai knows how to cook — he doesn't need me to do it." Shen Yushu replied with a perfectly indifferent expression.

"When you marry someone, can you bring Wei Zhao along?" Gu Mengyao's eyes went wide.

"I'll just marry him, won't that do?" Shen Yushu looked at Gu Mengyao as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Little Shu, tell me the truth — have you fallen for Wei Zhao?" Gu Mengyao's gaze bored straight into Shen Yushu's eyes.

"Haven't you?" Shen Yushu shot back.

"I have not." Gu Mengyao said with deadly seriousness: "Little Shu, Wei Zhao already has a girlfriend. Don't go straying down the wrong path."

"Oh, I'm not — I'm going to be the little wife. What does it matter if he has a girlfriend?" Shen Yushu shook her head.

"You're deceiving yourself." Gu Mengyao said: "Little Shu, what exactly are you thinking?"

"I'm not thinking anything in particular. I just want to be with Sister Yaoyao forever." Shen Yushu said, her expression naive and innocent.

"Fine, I won't fuss over you. Do as you please." Gu Mengyao felt a headache coming on. She and Little Shu had both grown up — though the two of them were still impossibly close, the deepest recesses of every heart held secrets of one's own. This had nothing to do with whether the bond between best friends was solid; everyone, after all, had their privacy.

Gu Mengyao stared at the popcorn in the rice cooker, utterly at a loss for what to do.

Wei Zhao had heard every word the young miss and Little Shu said, but he did not go over to interrupt.

As for Shen Yushu, Wei Zhao's feelings toward her were peculiar. He had always sensed a certain quality about her that seemed strangely familiar, yet the more he thought about it, the more he realized he truly did not know any girl with that particular temperament.

Only after the two of them had finished their private conversation did Wei Zhao walk over to the kitchen: "All right, leave it to me. You two just wait in the living room."

Gu Mengyao nearly jumped at Wei Zhao's sudden appearance, but Shen Yushu simply stuck out her tongue and clapped her hands: "Oh, ready-made food again! See, Sister Yaoyao? I told you we'd have Brother Jianpai — no need for us to do anything."RO
