Chapter 738 — A Slip of the Tongue

The Blossom Guardian

"Auntie, so how about it? Are you satisfied with the place?" Fatty Lai asked as Mother Tang came over.

"Satisfied, very satisfied! Little Lai, you really are a fine friend to our Xiaoyi!" Mother Tang praised.

"Haha, hearing you say that, Auntie, I'm overwhelmed!" Fatty Lai laughed. "It's about noon anyway — how about I treat everyone to a meal?"

Manager Wang was even more astonished. President Lai had knocked so much off the price and helped them out so enormously — if Wei Zhao didn't stand him a meal, that would already be one thing, but here Lai was volunteering to treat them? These people really were no ordinary bunch!

"How could we let you do that? I should be the one treating you!" Stingy as Mother Tang was, she knew Fatty Lai had helped a great deal today, so she said hurriedly, "As it happens, I have a few things I'd like to ask you about."

"No problem at all. Let's find a restaurant nearby first and talk it over!" Fatty Lai nodded.

The four of them left the sales office together. Mother Tang carefully put the contract away. This was several hundred thousand — close to a million! Never in her life had she spent so much money in one go. Along with the excitement, she couldn't quite shake a sense of unease; it all felt somehow unreal.

"Shall we take my car?" Fatty Lai was driving an Audi Q7 SUV today.

"No need, I drove here too!" Wei Zhao pointed at his beat-up van.

Mother Tang actually rather wanted to ride in Fatty Lai's luxury car, but seeing Wei Zhao say otherwise, she could only give it up — though she was still a little envious inside.

Fatty Lai, for his part, didn't turn his nose up at it at all; he got straight into Wei Zhao's battered van and sat in the back with Mother Tang, leaving the passenger seat for Tang Zhi.

Wei Zhao pulled out and asked, "Where shall we eat?"

"How about here?" Fatty Lai picked a restaurant that looked decent enough. At this hour, going too far wasn't practical anyway.

Wei Zhao glanced at the restaurant entrance and saw that the BMW he had stepped on earlier was parked there too. He didn't mind, though — surely he wasn't going to skip lunch just because that fellow happened to be around? Besides, Wei Zhao wasn't afraid of him in the least.

Fatty Lai and Wei Zhao and the others walked into the restaurant together. Fatty Lai didn't notice the balding President Wu and his little darling Xiaoli — after all, they were just two nobodies, beneath Fatty Lai's notice entirely.

Mother Tang, too, was too busy rejoicing to notice, but Tang Zhi did spot the balding President Wu and his little darling sitting at a table on the left side of the main hall.

"Wei Zhao, that President Wu or whatever is eating here too? Isn't it a bit awkward for us to come here?" Tang Zhi hesitated. After all, her family had more or less taken a twenty-five percent discount off the man, and running into him like this was bound to feel uncomfortable.

"Oh? Then I suppose I should tell him to get lost, so he doesn't ruin my girlfriend's mood." Wei Zhao smiled.

"Oh, stop it — why are you so overbearing?" Tang Zhi was thoroughly flustered.

"Ha, then we'll just ignore him." Wei Zhao shook his head.

Fatty Lai asked the waiter for a private room. Four people hardly needed a room of their own, really, but Fatty Lai felt that when treating guests, one ought to do it properly.

Once they were seated in the room, since Fatty Lai was the host, he ordered a few signature dishes first, then handed the menu to Mother Tang and Tang Zhi. "Auntie, sister-in-law... er, Miss Tang, why don't you see what you'd like to eat?"

Fatty Lai had let his tongue slip. Fortunately his wits were quick — seeing that Mother Tang didn't seem to have noticed, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Isn't this enough? There are only four of us — we can't possibly eat all that, can we?" Mother Tang looked over what Fatty Lai had ordered. They were all signature dishes of the house, and there was already plenty.

"Right, this is plenty for four people." The waiter nodded as well. Much as the restaurant wanted to sell more, they couldn't very well let the customers order more than they could eat.

When it was Tang Zhi's turn, she ordered only a few drinks and added nothing to the menu. Fatty Lai had no choice but to throw in an extra dessert before waving the waiter away.

Seated not far off, the bald Boss Wu had also spotted Wei Zhao and his group. His brow knotted instantly. "What rotten luck — enemies on a narrow road! There were too many people at the sales office for me to do anything to you, and now you've gone and delivered yourselves right to my doorstep?"

"That's right, Boss Wu. These people are absolutely terrible — they made us spend an extra two hundred and fifty thousand!" Xiaoli couldn't help but feel the pinch. If only that money had gone to her instead, how sweet that would have been — handed to strangers for nothing! Back when they were buying the apartment, she hadn't thought much of it; after all, it was Boss Wu's money being spent. But now that the place was hers, Xiaoli felt that extra money was hers too.

"I can't let this go without teaching them a lesson!" What Boss Wu was actually plotting was this: hire someone to beat Wei Zhao up, then force him to leave Tang Zhi. At that point he himself would sweep in, strong and heroic, and win the goodwill of Tang Zhi's family. That would put him well on the path to carrying off the lady.

"That's right, Boss Wu — aren't you under Brother Cihua's protection? Why not ask him?" Xiaoli suggested.

"That's precisely what I had in mind!" Bald Boss Wu nodded. His taxi company was registered under Li Cihua's firm, and every month he paid a hefty tribute to Li Cihua. Otherwise, how could bald Boss Wu have bullied his way to the very top of Songshan City's taxi trade?

With Li Cihua standing behind him, the other taxi companies dared to seethe but dared not speak. Who would dare provoke Li Cihua?

Bald Boss Wu dialed Li Cihua's number.

At that moment, Li Cihua had just finished accompanying his brother through a silver needle excision surgery. This surgery had utterly ruined Li Dilei. Once the needles were removed, his entire body was riddled with holes, making him look like a human sieve. Every wound was the size of a rice bowl. The sight was absolutely horrifying!

But to save his life, there was no other way. Otherwise, if the true qi that Wei Zhao had sealed inside him were to erupt, there would be no surviving it.

"Brother, how am I supposed to live like this? They even carved a hole in my little jj! This is the worst!" The moment Li Dilei's anesthesia wore off, he was writhing in unbearable agony.

"Enough, stop howling! Who told you to go provoking Wei Zhao with nothing better to do?" Li Cihua glared at Li Dilei. "Even Young Bing doesn't know how to deal with Wei Zhao yet. What do you think you can do?"

"But I can't accept it! I want revenge! I want Wei Zhao torn to pieces!" Li Dilei's face twisted in pain, teeth bared.

"Wait for Young Bing to avenge you. Don't even think about doing it yourself!" How could Li Cihua not hate Wei Zhao? He hated the man to the very marrow of his bones. But what good did all that hatred do? He was utterly powerless against Wei Zhao — and deeply afraid of him to boot.

Because that brat Wei Zhao was even more ruthless and domineering than he was. Qibing Tower had only just been rebuilt — and to think it had been brought down by Wei Zhao. Li Cihua's heart clenched at the memory. That tower had been built with mountains of silver and gold, and just like that, it was gone!
