Chapter 734 — Who Are You Talking About?
"We'll bid one point one million too!" Tang Zhi said. Then she felt Wei Zhao squeeze her hand again, and had no choice but to add: "We'll bid one point one five million!"
"Huh?" Bald Boss Wu stared at Tang Zhi, hardly able to believe his ears. She dared to outbid him? Where did she get the nerve? Putting on a brave face while picking her own pocket, was she? But then he caught the little gestures Wei Zhao was making behind her, and the truth dawned on him — it was that bastard Wei Zhao, out to spite him!
So you dare to raise the price on your own, do you? He was convinced one point one five million was the absolute limit Wei Zhao could reach — otherwise, why not bid one point two million? The man's money had run thin; he couldn't go any higher!
So Bald Boss Wu gritted his teeth and announced outright: "One point two million! One point two million — now sign the contract for me, and be quick about it!"
True, one point two million for a house worth nine hundred and fifty thousand did feel a touch extravagant, but he had also succeeded in salvaging his face, in flaunting his wealth before Tang Zhi and Mother Tang — and that gave him a distinct sense of achievement!
This was only the first step in his success. After that, all he had to do was humiliate Wei Zhao a little, and then he could broach the matter of keeping Tang Zhi with Mother Tang.
"Oh, then it's yours. We'll keep looking at other places," Tang Zhi said, taking Wei Zhao's cue and shaking her head. "This one isn't really ideal anyway. One point two million is far too much to pay for it — it's just not worth it!"
"Not worth it? I'd say you two simply don't have the money!" Xiaoli taunted, though inwardly she was overjoyed. Bald Boss Wu had bought her a house at such a sky-high price — it made her look utterly prestigious.
"Even if we have money, we don't throw it around!" Tang Zhi pursed her lips. Thank goodness Wei Zhao had only meant to make the bald man bleed a little, rather than buying the place themselves — otherwise, paying an extra two hundred and fifty thousand for a house would have kept Tang Zhi awake at night!
Seeing Tang Zhi's family give up, the salesgirl stopped pressing them. If someone else was willing to pay a high price, why on earth should she object?
"Sir, shall we sign the contract now?" the salesgirl asked.
"Of course! I only just managed to win the bidding — what if someone else snatches it from under me?" Bald Boss Wu glared at her and barked.
"Very well, then let's go back to the sales office and sign the papers..." The salesgirl glanced at Mother Tang with an apologetic look. "Auntie, why don't you come back with me? I can help you find another nice apartment."
"All right..." Mother Tang had no other choice; it would have to do. Paying an extra two hundred and fifty thousand for a house was more than she could bear to part with! And on top of that, she had been hoping for a discount!
"So even your daughter's boyfriend is no good, eh? What's an extra two hundred and fifty thousand? To me, that's nothing but pocket change!" Once downstairs and aboard the electric cart, Bald Boss Wu remarked to Mother Tang, as though casually.
Mother Tang shot him a glare and said nothing, thinking to herself: if my son-in-law were a jackass like you, paying an extra two hundred thousand just to buy a house, that would be the real disgrace! When my son-in-law buys me a house, of course the cheaper the better!
Seeing that Mother Tang made no reply, Bald Boss Wu shrugged, and he and his little mistress began hugging and cuddling again.
"That man is truly detestable!" Once in the car, Tang Zhi grumbled quietly to Wei Zhao.
"Ha, there are plenty of houses out there — are we afraid we won't find one we like? Never mind an extra two hundred and fifty thousand; I could afford an extra million. But would your auntie accept that?" Wei Zhao laughed.
"Of course not! You'd better find her something cheap. If she really had to pay through the nose, she'd worry herself sick!" Tang Zhi sighed. She knew her mother's temperament well.
The six of them returned to the sales office, and the salesgirl set about drawing up the purchase contract for Bald Boss Wu. The contracts were all ready-made — pulled straight from the computer, printed out, all that remained was a signature and a stamp.
Bald Boss Wu raised his pen grandly and was about to scrawl his own name on the contract, when the little mistress grew rather displeased: "Didn't we agree it would be in my name? Why have you changed your mind?"
"Well..." Bald Boss Wu had in fact already shifted his sights to Tang Zhi! In every way that mattered, Tang Zhi was far superior to Xiaoli, and so he no longer wished to invest too much in Xiaoli. That was why he had played a little trick when signing the contract — but Xiaoli was sharp too, and caught it at once.
"I just forgot, that's all..." Bald Boss Wu laughed heartily. He was in the middle of showing off before Tang Zhi and her mother — how could he afford to look weak now? If Mother Tang took him for a miser who wouldn't even buy his woman a house, why would she ever help him win Tang Zhi over?
Only then did Xiaoli beam with delight and write her own name down, then happily planted another kiss on Boss Wu.
"Sir, you can make your payment now. Will that be cash, or would you prefer to use a bank card?" The salesgirl was thrilled to have closed a sale—and at twenty-five thousand more than the asking price! Surely the boss would praise her when he saw the numbers.
"What kind of stupid question is that? Of course it's a card! Who in their right mind carries over a million in cash around with them? Only some idiot who's never seen money before!" Bald Boss Wu shot the salesgirl an irritated glare and tossed a bank card onto the counter.
"Screw your sister—who the hell are you calling an idiot?" A hulking man clutching a big black plastic sack appeared out of nowhere and seized Bald Boss Wu by the collar. "You got a death wish?"
"Ah? Boss, I'm sorry, I wasn't talking about you..." Bald Boss Wu was startled half to death. This hulk packed far more of a visual punch than Wei Zhao ever had. Wei Zhao might have been formidable too—he'd kicked a car to a stop, after all—but he wasn't built like this, and so hadn't frightened Bald Boss Wu nearly so badly. This brute in the black tank top, covered head to toe in tattoos, genuinely gave him a shock.
Besides, even if the security guards showed up, he'd be the one in the wrong—who'd told him to run his mouth and call the man an idiot? So Bald Boss Wu hurried to apologize.
"Hmph. I don't have time to waste on a bald git like you. I could cave your skull in with this bag of money alone!" The hulk was clearly in a hurry to get somewhere; he let go of Bald Boss Wu and stalked off, leaving him to breathe a sigh of relief.
The salesgirl fetched the wireless card machine and swiped Bald Boss Wu's card, then handed him the receipt slip and issued him a payment voucher. "Sir, you're entitled to one lucky draw—you can go and try your luck! The grand prize is a free premium renovation plus home appliances; first prize is a full set of home appliances; second prize is a complete set of kitchen and bathroom fittings; third prize is a central water purifier; and there are smaller prizes too—electric kettles, electric stew pots, rice cookers, induction cookers, and so on.
