Chapter 719 — - Saving His Life Is No Problem
"You got it?" Tang Zhi blinked in surprise, then said, "It's not a scam. It's the medical fee Wei Zhao demanded from the person running Qibing Real Estate."
"Ah? The medical fee Wei Zhao demanded? Then it's real?" Mrs. Tang's face lit up at once. "I'll go to the bank and check right now. I've never seen this much money in my life!"
Mrs. Tang was beaming. She had been agonizing over the cost of buying a house tomorrow, but now three million had dropped into her lap — more than enough for any house! Wei Zhao really was something else. He broke Zhao Qibing's leg, and instead of the other side demanding compensation from him, he had gone and collected three million first! Old Tang's broken leg was worth it after all!
"Mm..." Tang Zhi said nothing more and hung up.
Though Tang Zhi didn't mind Gu Mengyao knowing her family was poor, she was afraid they would discover her mother was this greedy. They would certainly laugh at her.
Not long after Tang Zhi's call ended, Wei Zhao received one of his own from Li Cihua.
"Wei Zhao, I've wired the money to the account you gave me. When can you save my brother?" Li Cihua said flatly. Between him and Wei Zhao it was purely a business arrangement; there was no need for pleasantries.
"Oh, I'll tell you how to save him — you can do it yourself." Wei Zhao said with studied casualness. "Just find any surgeon. Have him cut out a circle of flesh two centimeters in radius around each silver needle, needle included. That will solve it."
"What!? Cut out flesh?!" Li Cihua's eyes went wide the instant he heard Wei Zhao's words. "Are you playing me?"
"I wouldn't string you along for three million." Wei Zhao said evenly. "Tell what I said to that skilled physician beside you, and he will know whether I am right or not. I don't have time to dawdle with you. This is the only way to save your brother's life."
"Fine then, I'll take your word for it — for now!" Li Cihua drew a deep breath and wrestled his fury down.
Wei Zhao didn't bother with another word and simply hung up. Li Cihua seethed. It had been a long time since anyone had treated him as though he did not exist. Even the Zhao family did not look down on him like this.
But Li Cihua could not afford to take Wei Zhao to task. He had wanted the man dead for quite some time now, and as long as Wei Zhao drew breath, he would just have to swallow it.
Li Cihua dared not waste a moment. He relayed Wei Zhao's words to the Medicine King. To his surprise, the Medicine King slapped his own forehead and exclaimed, "How did I not think of this! If this true qi is so hard to remove, why not simply dig it out and throw it away? So simple..."
Li Cihua blinked at the Medicine King's reaction. "So Wei Zhao's method actually works?"
"It works. In fact, it is the only way to treat Li Dilei at present. He will have to endure some pain, but saving his life won't be a problem." The Medicine King said.
"Could it be that Wei Zhao knows of another method but chose not to share it, deliberately giving us something this cruel?" Li Cihua was suspicious. In his view, a creature like Wei Zhao would never volunteer a good thing; if he opened his mouth, it was to suggest something underhanded.
"That is unlikely. Once this kind of true qi has been fired off, pulling it back would cost him a tremendous effort. Even if Wei Zhao could do it, he wouldn't lower his own strength for three million!" The Medicine King shook his head. "Besides, I suspect Wei Zhao hasn't fully recovered yet — he's only a little stronger than Mr. Zhu at the moment. He'd never risk his life to treat Li Dilei. Three million? Three hundred million wouldn't be enough!"
Hearing the Medicine King's explanation, Li Cihua felt considerably more at ease. Since there was a solution, they should carry it out as soon as possible...
Shen Yushu had overheard the method Wei Zhao gave Li Cihua and was laughing so hard she nearly died. She felt she and Arrow-Brand Bro were so perfectly matched — both wicked through and through, and never so much as blinking when playing tricks on someone. At this rate, Li Dilei was going to end up riddled with holes.
Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi too found it deeply satisfying. As long as no one was killed, punishing Li Dilei was more than deserved.
Wei Zhao parked his car in front of the night market street. As he pulled up, he spotted several modified sports cars — a couple of Hyundai Coupes, a Geely Beauty Leopard, and the like. He paused for a moment. They were probably the same group he had encountered last time. Feng Xiaoxiao had been among them then, but now a familiar figure was conspicuously absent.
He had no idea what Feng Xiaoxiao was doing in Yanjing City, or why she had been gone so long. When she was around, Wei Zhao had found her a bit of a nuisance. But now that she was gone — and just like that he no longer had a seatmate — he found he actually missed her. He had even promised to treat her to a meal.
Those people caught sight of Wei Zhao's Beetle but paid it little mind. It wasn't a sports car, and they had no interest in racing someone like that. They had clearly forgotten Wei Zhao already.
Wei Zhao and Tang Zhi walked behind, the Young Miss and Shen Yushu ahead, and the four of them entered the night market street.
When it came to the stall goods on Night Market Street, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had never bought anything before. In the past, whenever they came here, they headed straight for the snack street and never lingered among the stalls at all, so seeing it today, they found it quite novel and lively.
"The clothes here are so pretty! They're just like the newest styles from Hong Kong and Taiwan you see online — the shops don't even sell them!" Shen Yushu looked curiously at the clothes spread out on the stall.
"They're all knockoffs. The quality's far worse, and the price is only a tenth or even a hundredth of the real thing." Seeing Shen Yushu beaming as though she had stumbled on a treasure, Tang Zhi explained this to her, afraid she would be cheated.
"Is that so? Sister Yao, how about we buy a couple? Even if they're stall goods, other people will think we bought the real thing," Shen Yushu said.
Tang Zhi could not help sighing inwardly. It was true enough — Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu could wear ten-yuan stall clothes and no one would believe they were from a stall, but even if she herself wore the real thing, people would probably take it for a knockoff.
"Then let's have a look..." Gu Mengyao was rather tempted too; after all, many of the styles really were quite novel.
The four of them came to a stall that looked to be of decent quality. Tang Zhi picked out a pair of shorts for herself, while Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu each chose a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. They asked the price — three hundred yuan in all.
The young lady and Shen Yushu had no idea what such things were actually worth, and Tang Zhi was not much good at haggling, so the task of bargaining naturally fell to Wei Zhao.
"Could you make it a little cheaper?" Wei Zhao asked the owner.
"Two hundred eighty is the lowest," the owner said, having also seen that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were rich, and so he had not come down much.
"How much? Two hundred?" Wei Zhao repeated, flatly turning the owner's final "eighty" into the questioning particle "ba", and went on: "Two hundred's too expensive. One hundred fifty."
