Chapter 432 — Is This Little Guan Xin?

The Blossom Guardian

"You're looking for Wei Zhao?" Guan Xin was taken aback. Seeing how pitiful Fatty Lai looked, she relented: "All right, I'll tell you. If he blames you, just say I was the one who gave it to you..."

Guan Xin was kind at heart, and couldn't bear to watch this fat man kneeling at the door, weeping his eyes out. So she gave him Wei Zhao's phone number.

"Thank you, thank you! Miss Guan, you are too kind. You must be Divine Doctor Lin's girlfriend, surely?" Fatty Lai might have been a born crybaby, but he was also a wily old fox in the business world, and his talent for reading people was formidable. The instant he caught the involuntary blush that swept across Guan Xin's face at the mention of Wei Zhao's name, he knew at once that whatever lay between them was no ordinary friendship!

No wonder Guan Xuewen and Wei Zhao were so close -- so this was the reason! Fatty Lai had always wondered why Wei Zhao would go into the pharmaceutical business with Guan Xuewen of all people. Did he trust the man that much? After all, Wei Zhao's medical arts were far, far beyond Guan Xuewen's!

So that had been the hidden connection all along!

"No, no... we're just... good friends." Fatty Lai's words threw Guan Xin into an immediate fluster. Her cheeks burned and she stammered out her reply, though deep down she was quite pleased -- the fat man might love to cry, but he certainly knew how to flatter. Telling him the phone number had been worth it after all.

"Hehe, well then, I won't keep you any longer, Miss Guan. I'll go make that call!" Fatty Lai was more than eager to forge a connection with Wei Zhao as fast as possible.

Guan Xin had already been feeling awkward. Hearing Fatty Lai take his leave, she breathed an immediate sigh of relief and hurried back inside the villa.

Back at home, Wei Zhao suddenly remembered that Tang Zhi would probably be joining the tree-planting tomorrow as well. Did she have a sapling yet? He pulled out his phone, about to call and ask, when it rang. He assumed it was Tang Zhi -- but the number was unfamiliar.

"Hello?" Wei Zhao answered.

"Divine Doctor Lin? Is that you?" Fatty Lai asked, overjoyed.

"Divine Doctor Lin? Who is this?" Wei Zhao was mildly taken aback.

The calls on this phone were getting stranger by the day. A few days ago someone had been hunting for Divine Thief Lin; today someone wanted Divine Doctor Lin...

"Divine Doctor Lin, it really is you! I'm Lai Changshan!" Fatty Lai hastily introduced himself.

"Lai Changshan? Never heard of you!" Wei Zhao said, already moving to hang up.

"Waaah... Divine Doctor Lin, you don't remember me? Waaah..." Fatty Lai dissolved into tears once more.

"I remember now!" At the sound of that wailing, Wei Zhao's memory clicked into place. "You're that crybaby fatty, aren't you?"

"Yes, yes, that's me! Divine Doctor Lin, you've remembered?" Fatty Lai was equal parts thrilled and astonished.

"I remember. What is it?" Wei Zhao asked.

"It's like this -- that Life-Extending Detox Pill of yours is remarkably effective. I came to see you specifically to pay the medical fee. Shall I transfer the money to you?" Fatty Lai asked.

"Oh, that -- no need. I told you, it's a gift." Hearing Fatty Lai's intention, Wei Zhao turned him down. A hundred million was no small sum, and Wei Zhao was indeed short on cash -- but that pill had been smeared with dog feces and tossed aside by Kang Jinglong. It hardly felt right to accept payment for it.

"How can that be? You have to take this money, or my conscience will never rest easy... waaah..." With that, Fatty Lai burst into tears all over again.

"What?" Fatty Lai had Wei Zhao nearly speechless. "Is saving you money really that terrible?"

"How about this, then? Divine Doctor Lin, aren't you planning to start a pharmaceutical company? What if I gave you an office building? I just finished constructing a new tower. I was planning to move the company I manage into it, but I won't need all that space -- a few floors will do. The rest I had intended to rent out, but I could just give it to you instead. What do you say?" Fatty Lai asked.

"If you really want to give it, I'll take it." Hearing that it was office space on offer, Wei Zhao didn't refuse -- it would save him the trouble of hunting for a location.

"Right, and the property deed will be in your name too?" Fatty Lai was overjoyed to see Wei Zhao no longer refusing.

"Put it under Grandpa Guan..." Wei Zhao had meant to say Guan Xuewen's name, but on second thought, Guan Xuewen would probably refuse, so he said, "Put it under Guan Xin's name."

"Right, I've noted it down." Fatty Lai nodded hurriedly, thinking to himself that Wei Zhao and Guan Xin were indeed close—so his guess had been right after all.

"Is there anything else?" Wei Zhao was anxious to call Tang Zhi and had no patience to dawdle with him.

"Yes—that Life-Extending Detox Pill, could you sell me another one..." Fatty Lai stated his purpose.

"Oh, your old man isn't going to die just yet, then." Wei Zhao said, "In a few days, when the pharmaceutical company opens, I'll put some up for auction. You can buy them then."

"Right, good! As long as there's stock, that's fine!" Fatty Lai wasn't short of money and didn't care whether it was an auction or not. "Boohoo, I'm so happy..."

Wei Zhao hung up, relieved. This fellow was far too long-winded; he really couldn't stand it. Shaking his head, he dialed Tang Zhi's number.

"Hello? Wei Zhao? Is something the matter?" Tang Zhi had just gotten home from the hospital when she received Wei Zhao's call.

"There's tree planting at school tomorrow. Do you have a sapling?" Wei Zhao asked.

"Yes, do you need one? There are plenty in my yard," Tang Zhi said. "Just snap off a couple of little saplings and that'll do."

"Uh—" Wei Zhao slapped his forehead, only then remembering that Tang Zhi's family lived in a single-story house in the shantytown, with a yard right outside the door and lots of wild saplings growing along its edge. "No, I was thinking that if you didn't have any, I'd buy some for you..."

"No need, hehe..." Tang Zhi sounded quite happy; Wei Zhao's concern sent wave after wave of sweetness surging through her heart. So this was what love felt like—wonderful... She had always resisted such things before, but once you truly fell for someone, there was no holding it back.

"All right then, see you tomorrow." They chatted casually a while longer, and only when Tang Zhi's mother called her to eat did Wei Zhao hang up.

Inside the Gelifuyun Bar, An Liwen sat beside Li Cihua with a gloomy expression. "Cihua, you've got to help me this time. Send a few tough guys to teach that brat Wei Zhao a lesson—Taizao and I took a real beating this time!"

Li Cihua, however, just pondered in silence.

"Cihua, you know as well as I do that my big brother took the Fire Wolf Gang's best fighters with him, and the new ones haven't arrived yet. Otherwise I wouldn't have to ask you this!" Seeing Li Cihua stay silent, An Liwen grew anxious.

"How... high a level of fighter?" Li Cihua sighed and finally spoke.

"Early-stage Evolver, of course. It was agreed he'd stay here by my side, but my big brother has such lousy character that he actually took that fighter away with him!" At this point An Liwen's eyes filled with venomous hatred. "If not for that, would I have been humiliated by some petty bodyguard?"
