Chapter 429 — Turned Into an Idiot
"A few thieves? One man and one woman?" Na Ruoming was startled too.
"One man and two women!" Xie Fenpian said.
"One man and two women?" Du Ruoming was slightly taken aback. He exchanged a glance with Zou Tiandi, and both let out a breath at the same time. "One man and two women—then there shouldn't be any problem. If it were Wei Zhao, he'd be with Tang Zhi. It wouldn't be one man and two women, three people!"
"Damn it, scared me to death!" Tian Di patted his chest. "A day of this and I'll be scared into a nervous breakdown."
"You're telling me—suspicious of everything all day long!" Zou Ruoming said, then abruptly grew rather interested in the women Xie Fenpian had mentioned. But in front of his father he dared not say so outright, and could only dart looks at Du Tiandi.
"Come on, let's go over together!" Zou Tiandi knew well enough what sort of goods his son was—a lecher, just like himself. So rather than the pot calling the kettle black, he simply had father and son take the field together.
"Heh heh, then let's go have a look!" Zou Ruoming was overjoyed inside, though on the surface he put on a most fearful and reverent face.
Xie Fenpian secretly lamented losing a fine chance to sample a beauty close at hand. But no matter—currying favor with the boss and the young master was better than anything. Were women hard to find? With money, one could find plenty. Keep the boss and his son happy, and wouldn't the money come rolling in?
The reason Wei Zhao had followed the security captain to the guard room was that he did not want to start anything inside the market—too many people there, no room for him to maneuver. Once in the guard room, these fellows could only accept their fate.
"Bang!" No sooner had they entered the guard room than the security captain slammed the security door shut and locked it, then pointed savagely at Wei Zhao. "You lot, confess right now—how did you steal the things? Otherwise we send you straight to the police station, and once you're there it won't be so simple!"
"Ha, you're in with him?" Wei Zhao did not treat his savage manner as worth a moment's concern. Looking at the security captain, he asked mildly.
"What nonsense are you spouting? He's the victim—of course we have to uphold justice for him!" The security captain's expression changed, but he still quibbled.
"Ha, uphold justice? Do you think you're Ultraman, or the leader of the martial alliance?" Wei Zhao smiled. "Let's put it plainly—what do you want?"
By now Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had also understood that the security captain and the thief were in cahoots. But with Wei Zhao there, they naturally had nothing to fear. Both had been through life and death with Wei Zhao; compared with bank robbers and sharks, this little danger was nothing at all.
They were even a little excited, eager to see Jing Yi go on a rampage.
"Once you walk through that door, don't think about leaving. Since you won't be honest, then we'll beat you honest first!" The security captain waved a hand at the other guards. "Take the women into the back room. In a bit President Xie will come search them. This kid here won't be honest—beat him for me first!"
"Yes!" Several guards rubbed their fists and nodded.
"Beating people here isn't against the law?" Wei Zhao glanced at the security captain.
"Here, I am the law!" The security captain jabbed a finger at Wei Zhao with great aplomb. "I don't mind telling you—there are no cameras here. Once you leave, no one can prove we beat you. We can say you fell down on your own!"
"Ha... so that's how it is. Just as I'd hoped." Wei Zhao nodded with a smile.
"What do you mean? Have you lost your mind?" The security captain was stunned, somewhat at a loss as to what Wei Zhao meant.
"I haven't lost my mind, but you're about to lose yours." As he spoke, Wei Zhao shot out his hand and patted the security captain lightly on the head.
"What the hell are you blathering about—ga? Hee hee... haha... whoo whoo..." The security captain's gaze suddenly went dull, drool trickled from the corner of his mouth, and he began to laugh like a madman. As he laughed he reached for the thief from before. "Catch the thief, catch the thief, police, catch the thief..."
"Arrow-brand Bro, he really has gone stupid?" Shen Yushu cried out excitedly when she saw the security captain turned into an idiot. "Fun, so much fun! Arrow-brand Bro, turn this one into an idiot too!"
As she spoke, Shen Yushu pointed at the thief.
"Ah... no, please don't..." Having witnessed Wei Zhao's uncanny power, the thief was scared out of his wits. Never in his life had he seen anyone turn a man into an idiot with just a couple of slaps—it was like something out of a legend, a ghost or demon made flesh!
"This kid knows sorcery! Grab him!" The other security guards were badly frightened too. Who had ever seen someone turn another person into a halfwit with a casual flick of the hand?
Still, though someone shouted to seize Lin Tou, not a soul dared step forward—everyone feared becoming Wei Zhao's next target. So far from advancing, they all kept backing away.
"Thump!"
Seeing Wei Zhao coming toward him, the thief dropped to his knees at once: "Brother, boss, ancestor—I was wrong, I shouldn't have stolen the phone, I'll give it back to you right now..."
With that, the thief fished out Gu Mengyao's phone and laid it on the ground before him, then burst into tears, sniveling and sobbing: "I'm just a small-time thug, a nobody. It was Brother Guang who told us to help him steal stuff, to cheat customers..."
Wei Zhao snatched up the phone before the thief's snot and tears could fall on it and handed it back to Gu Mengyao. Then he glanced at the thief and asked, "Brother Guang? What Brother Guang? What the hell does this Brother Guang do?"
"Brother Guang is Ruoguang—Old Dog of the North District. This flower-bird-fish market belongs to his family too..." The thief told all he knew, too afraid of being turned into an idiot to hide anything.
"Oh? Zou Ruoguang?" Wei Zhao was taken aback—Zou Ruoguang again! So he had crossed paths with this family once more. "You call him. Tell him to get over here within ten minutes and give me an explanation, or I'll tear this place down."
"Th-that... all right, I'll call him right now!" The thief was somewhat afraid of Ruoguang, but at this moment he feared Wei Zhao far more. The worst Ruoguang could do was beat him half to death, but Wei Zhao could make him wish he were dead.
Yet just as Lin Tou and the thief were talking, a security guard standing nearby, itching to make his move, suddenly sprang up. Knife in hand, he tried to close in on Gu Mengyao, meaning to take her hostage and force Wei Zhao to leave. Otherwise, with Wei Zhao standing there, he simply felt unsafe—and since Wei Zhao had already turned one man into an idiot, a few more wouldn't make much difference.
But the tragedy was this: his idea was sound enough, yet before he could put it into action, the man had already become an idiot.
