Chapter 363 — Keep the Good Things for Yourself

The Blossom Guardian

"Wei Zhao, can you really cure my legs?" Xiaofen was both astonished and delighted, while Kang Xiaofeng too watched Wei Zhao with a face full of expectation.

"I can, but don't be impatient." Wei Zhao smiled. "This is no problem at all."

Wei Zhao had at home several kinds of nerve-stimulating medicines — remedies the old man had compounded back then to awaken his own bodily potential. But after he took up the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, he no longer needed such drugs to strengthen his constitution, so they had been set aside.

Since Wei Zhao had no use for them himself, he had never seriously studied those medicines for awakening human potential. Even without going back to his hometown to fetch them, he could simply look up the data when he had time, or make a phone call to ask Old Man Wei and get the formula from him.

"Mm-hm!" Xiaofen nodded excitedly. She had dreamed of walking like a normal person, and now Wei Zhao had given her hope, making her whole being glow with spirit in an instant.

Xiaofen's transformation delighted Kang Xiaofeng, and all along the way he chatted with her about amusing things at school, including Wei Zhao's heroic exploits — slapping Zou Ruoming, kicking Zhong Yongliang, and so on.

"Yunyun is so lucky, finding a leader like you — you're a good person, and you treat her so well!" Xiaofen was happy for Tang Zhi as well; Wei Zhao was better than Kang Jingming by no one knew how many times.

"And he's not good to you too?" Wei Zhao teased upon hearing this.

"That's right, I'm the leader's underling, so naturally I've inherited the leader's fine traditions!" Kang Xiaofeng declared with utter conviction.

"Heh heh..." Xiaofen was tickled. "Inherited? You weren't born from him!"

Downstairs at the First People's Hospital, Wei Zhao picked up Tang Zhi.

When Tang Zhi got into the car and saw Xiaofen, she was so startled she could hardly believe it!

"Xiaofen... you... you look so beautiful..." Tang Zhi rubbed her eyes. After all these years she had grown used to Xiaofen's sickly appearance; she had never expected that, dressed up, Xiaofen would still be so lovely.

"Yunyun, don't tease me — how could I be as pretty as you?" Though Xiaofen said so, she was still exceedingly happy inside. Compared with Tang Zhi she could not match her — the other girl was beautiful even without makeup — but compared with most others, Xiaofen still stood out.

"A woman dresses up for the one who delights in her — that saying is not one bit false. Did you dress up for Kang Xiaofeng?" Tang Zhi joked.

"And you're one to talk... Yunyun, why aren't you wearing your school uniform today? This dress is so pretty — I've never seen you wear it before?" Xiaofen steered the topic back to Tang Zhi.

"This..." Tang Zhi's face flushed. This dress on her was the very one Wei Zhao had bought for her at the night market; afterward, angry with Wei Zhao, she had thrown it into the wardrobe and never worn it. Now that her relationship with Wei Zhao had improved, of course she had dug it out and put it on.

"I gave it to her." Wei Zhao smiled.

"Oh..." Kang Xiaofeng and Xiaofen nodded with looks of sudden understanding.

"Is that so? I clearly gave you fifty yuan for it!" Yet Tang Zhi glared at Wei Zhao. "Since you say it was you who gave it to me, then when will you pay me back?"

"Heh heh..." Wei Zhao knew Tang Zhi was only joking; she could not possibly mean to demand the money.

"By the way, Leader, where's the birthday gift you prepared?" Kang Xiaofeng suddenly remembered this important matter.

"Right here." Wei Zhao fished out of his pocket a small, exquisite box in an antique style and handed it to Kang Xiaofeng.

"Oh? What's this? It looks rather high-class!" Kang Xiaofeng took the box and casually opened it, and could not help exclaiming in wonder: "Eh? Leader, what are these black pills?"

"Longevity and Toxin-Expelling Pills." Wei Zhao gave out a name he had just invented on the spot.

"Longevity and Detoxification Pill?" Kang ** repeated the name in some astonishment. "How come I've never heard of such a thing?"

"A divine physician gave it to me, and I don't have many," Wei Zhao said. "Once this elixir is taken, it swiftly expels the impurities and toxins accumulated within the body, achieving the goal of prolonging life. After taking it, one may add five to ten years to one's lifespan!"

"My God! Something that good? No way, boss — why give a treasure like this to him?" Kang **'s words left Tang Zhi and Xiaofen in the car somewhat speechless.

"Isn't he your second grandfather?" Wei Zhao was rather speechless himself.

"That's true enough, but he hasn't treated my family well these past years. A fine thing like this, I'd rather keep it for myself... rather give it to Xiaofen to eat!" Kang ** had meant to say he would eat it himself, but then he thought of Xiaofen beside him and said instead.

Xiaofen was a little touched, but she said, "We're young, we don't need to take this, do we?"

"Xiaofen is right!" Wei Zhao nodded. "You're young; even if you detoxify, there's not much to expel. It's especially effective for the elderly."

"So that's how it is!" Kang ** said, enlightened. "But a fine thing like this, giving it to him is a waste — better to keep it for ourselves!"

"When the time comes that you need to take it, I still have some; I've saved one for you." Wei Zhao smiled. "This one should still go to your second grandfather."

"All right..." Kang ** looked at the pill with some pain in his heart. "Boss, you're not fooling me, are you? This thing is really that miraculous?"

"It's not miraculous — there's a scientific basis for it. The more toxins accumulate in the body, the greater the harm to the body, especially for those advanced in years. If one doesn't take care when young, the toxins in the body pile up more and more." Wei Zhao explained, "The function of this thing is to expel the toxins from the body; as for any other effect, there really is none."

"I see!" Kang ** nodded in understanding. "All right, then, for the sake of his being my second grandfather, I'll give it to him."

Wei Zhao drove toward the provincial capital, Donghai City. Donghai was the seat of the province, not far from Songshan City but not too close either — about a three-hour drive.

Wei Zhao's beat-up van couldn't go very fast. Other cars took a little over three hours; Wei Zhao had to drive more than four. There was no help for it — the van's speed wouldn't pick up, and if it did, it was liable to rattle itself apart.

By the time the four of them reached the provincial capital, Donghai City, it was already past six in the evening.

"Where do we go now?" Once off the expressway, Wei Zhao was utterly hopeless with directions, knowing nothing at all about the provincial capital Donghai.

"Wait, I'll call and ask!" Kang ** signaled Wei Zhao to pull the car over to the side of the road first, then dialed his parents' number.
