Chapter 313 — This Is a Small Matter

The Blossom Guardian

"Ha... Uncle Chu, this little thing... it really is a small matter." Wei Zhao felt happy these days. Every day, someone cared about him. Yes—was this what it meant to live an ordinary life?

"A small matter? You call this a small matter? What you're going up against is an overseas gang!" Gu Pengzhan said gravely. "They're nothing like the petty thugs back home. They're a pack of desperate men, armed with guns and ammunition. If anything happens to you, how am I supposed to answer to Old Master Lin? Even my own father wouldn't let me off!"

Wei Zhao did not know how the old man of the Wei family had talked things over with Gu Pengzhan, but from the look of him, it seemed Gu Pengzhan had no idea what Wei Zhao had done in the past. Never mind a gang leader—Wei Zhao had routinely sent off generals of small nations with private armies, and the commanders of mercenary bands as well...

"Uncle Chu, if you know my old man, then you should know... what I have to do really is a small matter..." Wei Zhao explained with a bitter smile.

"All right, I believe you." Only after hearing this did Gu Pengzhan nod. "About the plane tickets—just call Uncle Qing directly and have him sort it out for you. I need to get back. Since Xie Guangbo won't be siding with Jin Gubang anymore, I have to rework my plans—see how best to deal with Jin Gubang."

"Very well. Take care, Uncle Chu." Wei Zhao rose and saw Gu Pengzhan to the door.

Gu Pengzhan waved a hand, exchanged a few words with Gu Mengyao in farewell, and left the villa.

It was getting late. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu locked the villa's front door, turned off the television, and headed upstairs yawning, ready for bed. Wei Zhao, meanwhile, sat down at the computer and logged into his phone mailbox.

As expected, Xie Guangbo had gathered all the information on his son and sent it to Wei Zhao.

Xie Guangbo's son was named Xie Jinbiao, nineteen years old this year, a student studying abroad. But now he had been taken to a remote little town called Blue Town.

It was a border town of a small country. Owing to its location, law and order there were utterly chaotic—the whole town was all but controlled by the local gangs—and that was where Xie Jinbiao had been taken.

And precisely because the town was entirely under gang control, that gang, called the Water Blue Gang, seemed not in the least afraid of revealing to Xie Guangbo their location and the place where Xie Jinbiao was being held.

For they felt that Xie Guangbo's influence could never reach this far. Even the other gangs nearby would, more or less, show the Water Blue Gang some deference, and would not lightly cross the line into their territory.

Of course, even if Xie Guangbo really did come here looking for someone, the leader of the Water Blue Gang did not believe Xie Guangbo had the means to do anything about it. Once you entered Blue Town, whether you lived or died was for the Water Blue Gang to decide.

The Water Blue Gang's headquarters was located inside Blue Town's Blue Castle. The castle had some history to it—it had once belonged to the master of this town, a certain family that had enjoyed a glorious age. But that was all in the past. Several decades ago, that family had offended a formidable power and been wiped out, root and branch...

It had been a family of great influence; the commercial and political power of the old Blue Town had been entirely in its hands. So when the family was exterminated, the place fell into a period of chaos.

Some years later, Blue Town was taken over by the Water Blue Gang, and only then did it gradually regain its former order. But a small gang could never compare with that vast family of old, and so Blue Town's economy plummeted. The Water Blue Gang was forced to lure out-of-town tourists here to squander their money with drugs, gambling, and other such gimmicks.

Seeing the information Xie Guangbo had sent him, a strange smile crept across Wei Zhao's face. Blue Town? Blue Castle? The names felt so familiar... According to his assassin master, the man had once wiped out a worthless family—though whether they had lived in Blue Castle, Wei Zhao could not quite recall...

Wei Zhao called Uncle Qing and asked him to book a plane ticket for tomorrow evening. There and back, it shouldn't take more than two days—it ought not to affect his going to the Kang family's birthday banquet that weekend.

Wei Zhao found it remarkable. The Liu family worked fast, didn't they? Money ready first thing in the morning? Little did he know that Old Master Liu Zhenhu was the pillar of the Liu family; whatever the cost, the old man had to be preserved.

"Grandpa Guan, I understand. I'll head over in a bit," Wei Zhao said. "Let them wait."

Guan Xuewen agreed with a smile, hung up, and relayed Wei Zhao's meaning to Liu Tianyi. Yet Liu Tianyi was not the least bit angry. That was how the truly capable were—what did waiting a while matter to him?

Had Wei Zhao come rushing over the moment he heard the money was ready, Liu Tianyi might even have suspected him of being a swindler. As it was, Wei Zhao's indifferent attitude struck Liu Tianyi as perfectly normal.

A hundred million—had it been any other ordinary youth, he might have been at a loss. What a colossal sum! But Wei Zhao had named a hundred million as though it were nothing at all. So much the more did Liu Tianyi feel that Wei Zhao was confident of curing his old man's illness, and that was why he dared to ask such a price.

Liu Tianyi had Wu Huiru prepare to wake the old master and get him up, while on the other side he contacted his subordinates to have the transfer ready as quickly as possible. If Wei Zhao arrived and the transfer was not yet prepared, and Wei Zhao turned and left in a rage—that would be no laughing matter.

Wei Zhao put down his phone and got up to make breakfast in the kitchen. He ate every morning anyway, so he always brought a portion for Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu as well. Come to think of it, those two girls were rather pitiable: both their parents were busy with work elsewhere and there was no one to look after them day to day. In their final year of high school, they studied until late every night and were badly short on sleep. What kind of life was that for rich young ladies?

They were clever, to be sure, but on the single-plank bridge of the college entrance exam there was no shortage of clever people; in the end it came down to who had prepared and revised most thoroughly. Cleverness alone would not produce a good score.

This was what Wei Zhao admired about them. Even if they skipped the exam entirely, a man of Gu Pengzhan's means could easily have found them a fine university, yet the two of them meant to earn a good result through their own efforts, a world apart from a freeloading parasite like Zhong Yongliang.

So Wei Zhao, doing a capable man's extra share, did not mind seeing to breakfast for the two girls...
