Chapter 294 — The Legendary Love Triangle

The Blossom Guardian

Important business? This was what he called important business? Qiu Lingshan nearly keeled over, and it was all she could do not to plant a few kicks on Wei Zhao's backside. But in the end, Wei Zhao wasn't one of their own, and what he did really wasn't hers to control.

Still, she couldn't keep the ice out of her voice: "Wei Zhao, surely you can tell the trivial from the critical when it comes to matters of the heart? Did you honestly just walk in there and hand him his meal? Couldn't you have found a chance to take Huang Guanya out?"

"I did take him out! Are you ever going to let this go? You're doing this on purpose, aren't you, trying to sabotage me!" Wei Zhao was furious now too. What the hell was wrong with this woman? Guan Xin was still in that room—how could he possibly stand by and let Huang Guanya do as he pleased? Did she have a brain in that head of hers?

"Took him out?" Qiu Lingshan was stunned, not quite following him now.

But just then, the door of the hospital room swung fully open and Guan Xin came rushing out. The moment she saw Wei Zhao she ran to him and threw herself into his arms: "I was terrified... absolutely terrified..."

Guan Xin clung to Wei Zhao, tears spilling down her face. The stubborn, righteous resolve she had shown minutes earlier was gone; now she was nothing but a fragile young woman...

A moment ago she had recklessly told the police to shoot Huang Guanya dead, and that too had come from her fear for the patients in the ward—from a nurse's duty, the kind of selfless goodness that lives in human nature. But now she was simply an ordinary girl again, and after the terror had passed, she only wanted a safe harbor to shelter in, someone to pour out her fear and her hurt to...

"Heh..." Wei Zhao glanced helplessly at Tang Zhi, and saw her purse her lips and turn her head away—but she said nothing.

What could Tang Zhi say? A little grievance and a flicker of jealousy stirred in her heart, but Guan Xin had only just been rescued from a madman's hands and plainly needed comforting. Tang Zhi was not a petty woman, so for the moment all she could do was pretend she hadn't seen a thing.

She just couldn't understand it—how had Wei Zhao gotten Guan Xin out? He had been inside the room for barely more than ten seconds before emerging again... She had assumed he had gone in only to hurry back out and claim his kiss from her... But now it seemed that was not what had happened at all!

Impossible as it seemed, Guan Xin really had run out alive, and that left only one explanation: Wei Zhao had dealt with the criminal...

Tang Zhi didn't believe it, Qiu Lingshan didn't believe it, and of everyone present, not a single soul believed the truth unfolding before their eyes. It was too bizarre, too utterly inconceivable.

Hearing Wei Zhao's "I did take him out," Qiu Lingshan had been about to fire back a few sarcastic words, but then she saw Guan Xin come running out after him, and she was dumbstruck—truly dumbstruck... What on earth had happened in there?

She had no patience left to question Wei Zhao; she charged into the ward ahead of everyone else—and the scene that met her eyes stopped her dead in her tracks...

Huang Guanya lay sprawled on the floor, his dagger fallen to one side, his death about as grisly as could be imagined: his eyes bulged out, and his face bore not only shock but rage. He would not accept it—no, he had died with his eyes wide open in defiance!

It was the manner of his death that left Qiu Lingshan speechless.

Huang Guanya had been killed, as far as she could tell, by a single blow—and the murder weapon left her just as speechless, just as disbelieving. It was a pair of disposable chopsticks, the very kind that came with the box lunch Wei Zhao had carried in.

The chopsticks were now driven straight through Huang Guanya's chest, into his heart. From the length of the portion protruding from his body, she could judge that the blow had run him clean through, likely even tearing out his back.

Wei Zhao had done this? How? Qiu Lingshan's mind was a whirl of questions.

Ten-odd seconds—after subtracting the time to open the door and step out, he would have had to set down the box lunch, launch his attack, wrest the dagger from Huang Guanya, push Guan Xin aside, and then drive the chopsticks into Huang Guanya's heart...

All of it in a few seconds? In one unbroken motion? Prejudiced as she was against Wei Zhao, Qiu Lingshan had to admit the man was formidable. It had been so fast that Huang Guanya never even managed a scream—he was already dead.

Qiu Lingshan asked herself: if it had been her carrying in that meal, could she have moved that fast? And without endangering the hostage? She badly wanted to say yes, but she hesitated...

Shaking her head, she set aside Huang Guanya's body for the moment and hurried to Liu Bojia's bed. By now the sheets were soaked red; Huang Guanya had stabbed him several times in the abdomen, and the blood would not stop...

"Get a doctor, now!" Qiu Lingshan shouted at Liu Wangli, who had charged in right behind her.

"Yes!" Liu Wangli was likewise marveling at how formidable Wei Zhao was, but more than that, he was baffled—wasn't Wei Zhao Team Leader Song's boyfriend? So why, right in front of Team Leader Song, was he demanding a kiss from another pretty female student?

Could this be the legendary love triangle? Hmm, no wonder Captain Song had such a foul temper, glaring at Wei Zhao like that.

Though that was what he thought, Liu Wangli's feet did not pause for a single moment; he reached the doorway and immediately began calling for the doctor.

In truth, the doctors and nurses had long since been notified by the police and were waiting nearby. Now that the matter was settled, they all rushed over...

Huang Guanya - Qiu Lingshan did not even entertain the thought of resuscitation, because there was simply no need to bother. He was absolutely dead beyond any doubt. And besides, whether Huang Guanya lived or died was of no use to Qiu Lingshan.

This thing was a madman, impervious to both reason and force. Apart from spewing disgusting remarks, not a single useful piece of information would ever come out of his mouth. As long as Liu Bojia was safe, that was the true breakthrough in the entire case.

Several doctors and nurses pushed Liu Bojia toward the operating room. In the ward, the remaining few began processing the scene and collecting the body.

"Cough, cough..." Tang Zhi really could not hold it in any longer. He was holding her - but surely he could not go on like this forever? Right in front of her, too - what did he think he was doing? Before anything had even happened, he was already starting to philander?

Hearing Tang Zhi's cough, Guan Xin also came back to her senses and realized that she had been clutching Wei Zhao tightly without letting go. A little embarrassed, she released her hold. It had only been instinct - Wei Zhao had saved her, and she had subconsciously believed that his embrace was a safe harbor from the storm. She had not thought anything more of it. Still, hugging Wei Zhao in front of his girlfriend made Guan Xin somewhat sheepish.

"I'm sorry, Tang Zhi. I was just so frightened - I borrowed your boyfriend for a moment..." Guan Xin smiled apologetically at Tang Zhi. She had no intention of competing with anyone over anything... especially after learning that Wei Zhao was still a student at First High School. That only pressed down the faint stirring in her heart all the more...
