Chapter 290 — Die and Show You

The Blossom Guardian

Liu Xinlan sighed. She had never imagined that a girl as beautiful and outstanding as Tang Zhi could still face the danger of someone trying to steal her man... But then she glanced at Guan Xin, who was no less lovely than Tang Zhi—cute, and dressed in a nurse's uniform, the very picture of uniform temptation... What man wouldn't be moved?

"Yunyun, don't worry. If he dares to fool around, I'll beat him till he's crawling on the floor looking for his teeth!" Liu Xinlan shook her fist fiercely and tried to soothe her in a low voice.

"Ha..." Tang Zhi couldn't help laughing. Liu Xinlan really was formidable, but could she beat Wei Zhao? With one slap, that thing could send Zou Ruoming flying!

Tang Zhi shook her head. Was she being too nervous? Was Wei Zhao really that good? Would someone really try to steal him from her? Besides, she and he weren't really boyfriend and girlfriend in the true sense—they were just a little closer than ordinary friends. If he truly wanted to like Guan Xin, there was nothing she could do about it. She couldn't shamelessly cling to him, could she?

"Boss, you're incredible! Come clean—is there any hanky-panky between you and little sister Guan Xin?" Kang Xiaofeng was no fool. Seeing how warmly Guan Xin treated Wei Zhao, he naturally started to imagine things.

"Little sister? She's older than you!" Wei Zhao glared at Kang Xiaofeng. "It's nothing much. We met before, when I came here to get my wounds dressed. We're on pretty good terms."

"Wounds? What wounds?" Kang Xiaofeng cackled, his eyes beginning to sweep over Wei Zhao.

"You little brat!" Wei Zhao smacked Kang Xiaofeng on the back of the head and, without wasting more words on him, strode over to Guan Xin's side. "I've really put you out, taking so much trouble over my friend's business."

Having an acquaintance in the hospital—even just a nurse—made everything much more convenient. Wei Zhao knew that well. He couldn't call Elder Guan for every little thing, could he? For big matters, sure, but for small ones, a nurse could handle it just fine.

"It's nothing... It's what I should do." Guan Xin blushed slightly, a little embarrassed. "I... I won't affect your relationship with your girlfriend, will I..."

Seeing Tang Zhi's unhappy expression, Guan Xin was somewhat at a loss. Though she was a few years older than Tang Zhi, she was still just a girl fresh out of school, not much more mature. At that moment she worried that Wei Zhao might distance himself from her because of Tang Zhi...

"Ha..." Wei Zhao smiled. "You won't."

In the ward, Guan Xin set up the IV drip for Xiaofen and then hurried off. She would have liked to stay and talk with Wei Zhao a while longer, but she had other wards to look after. Giving patients their injections and medication was a serious matter that couldn't be delayed—Guan Xin knew how to tell what mattered more.

So when Kang Xiaofeng and Liu Xinlan urged her to stay for lunch, Guan Xin waved them off. "I really do have several wards to check on. You all go ahead and eat—I'll eat in a bit!"

Tang Zhi, for her part, felt a little embarrassed now. She wondered whether Guan Xin felt awkward because she and Wei Zhao were here. A woman's natural sensitivity let her sense that bit of interest Guan Xin had in Wei Zhao. But seeing Guan Xin so eager to draw a clear line, Tang Zhi felt guilty instead. They were all women—why make things hard for another woman? It was Guan Xin's own business if she liked Wei Zhao, and besides, the girl hadn't actually said anything. Why should she be so aggressive?

Tang Zhi had seen with her own eyes how Guan Xin bustled about for Xiaofen's sake, so after a moment's hesitation she stood up. "Sister Guan Xin, why don't we all eat together?"

"Thank you," Guan Xin said with a smile. "Patients can't wait—eating is a small matter. How about this: when Xiaofen is discharged, you all treat me to a big meal?"

"That works too," Tang Zhi said with a nod, and didn't press her further. It seemed she had been overthinking it—Guan Xin really did have things to do and couldn't stay.

Liu Xinlan looked at Tang Zhi, who had grown somewhat sentimental, and sighed. Yunyun really had fallen. In the past, would she ever have fretted and weighed things like this?

Xiaofen seemed happy that everyone had come to visit her at noon. After not seeing her for a few days, Wei Zhao found that Xiaofen had become much more cheerful and talkative, able to joke with everyone, and the ward was filled with laughter and chatter.

Of course, this was mostly thanks to Kang Xiaofeng. Every day he patiently stayed by her side, chatting with Xiaofen and telling her about things that happened at school.

"Wei Zhao, I never would have guessed you're the school's big bully!" Xiaofen had naturally learned all about Wei Zhao from Kang Xiaofeng. "You're not allowed to bully Yunyun, got it? Otherwise, none of us will let you off!"

"Heh, I won't," Wei Zhao said with a smile. "But shouldn't you be saying that to Kang Xiaofeng?"

Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Xiaofen grew a little shy and lowered her head slightly.

After the meal, Liu Xinlan went to the restroom to wash the plastic container and the bowls and chopsticks, while Kang Xiaofeng sat by Xiaofen's bedside, somewhat hesitant—clearly he wanted to bring up the weekend gathering.

Wei Zhao took Tang Zhi's hand. She gave a small start, then shot him a half-scolding, half-bashful look. "What are you holding my hand for..."

"Xiaobo has something to say to Xiaofen. Let's go over there." Wei Zhao pointed to the bed across the room.

"Oh..." Only then did Tang Zhi notice that Kang Xiaofeng really did seem to have something to say. She let Wei Zhao keep hold of her hand, and the two of them went and sat on the opposite bed.

They were a fair distance away, but they could still hear what Kang Xiaofeng was saying.

Kang Xiaofeng told Xiaofen about Second Grandpa's birthday, and naturally about Kang Jingming as well. For the first time in her life, Xiaofen learned of Kang Xiaofeng's origins—he was actually that man's cousin?

Kang Xiaofeng invited Xiaofen to come with him to Second Grandpa's birthday banquet. Xiaofen hesitated, her head lowered, nervous and at a loss for what to do...

Tang Zhi had not expected Kang Xiaofeng to make such a bold decision—to bring Xiaofen to a family banquet, and one attended by Kang Jingming at that!

Watching Xiaofen's nervous, hesitant manner, Tang Zhi felt sorry for her, but at that moment she could find nothing to say.

"If you ever dare treat me the way Kang Jingming treated Xiaofen... I... I'll die right in front of you!" Tang Zhi, not knowing where the courage came from, suddenly turned her head to look at Wei Zhao and spoke, word by word.

"I..." Wei Zhao was caught off guard.

"I don't want your promise." Tang Zhi cut him off. "Kang Jingming made Xiaofen promises too, and then he abandoned her! But I'm not Xiaofen. Have you really thought this through? If you don't want me someday, I truly will die right in front of you!"

As she said this, Tang Zhi glared ferociously at Wei Zhao, as though she meant to devour him whole.
