Chapter 258 — Suspecting an Insider

The Blossom Guardian

Following again, are they? One of Li Cihua's men? A cold smirk flickered at the corner of Wei Zhao's mouth. Last time it was this same car trailing behind him—and with tracking skills like that, they actually thought he wouldn't notice?

Li Cihua certainly had nerve. Two men had died last time, and now he wanted to send more?

So Wei Zhao did not get out to question them; he feigned ignorance and drove on after Gu Mengyao. If that black business van behind them dared to make a move, Wei Zhao would not mind giving them another car crash.

Songshan City Amusement Park was located on the outskirts of the southern district, built only in the late 2000s with an investment of several hundred million—one of the better-known amusement parks in the province.

Gu Mengyao parked in the amusement park's underground garage, and Wei Zhao pulled in beside her. Just as he was following her into the elevator bay, he saw the black business van that had been tailing him turn into the underground garage as well. What surprised him, though, was that the van did not take a parking ticket; instead it presented a small laminated card at the fee booth by the entrance and was let through.

Wei Zhao found it strange. Could this van have some connection to the amusement park?

"Yaoyao, who owns this amusement park? Public or private?" Wei Zhao asked casually.

"A public-private joint venture. Why do you ask?" Gu Mengyao did not quite follow his meaning.

"Joint venture? Which company invested?" Wei Zhao did not let the subject drop so easily, and pressed on.

"Brother Arrow, this is Uncle Chu's property!" Shen Yushu blurted out before anyone else could answer.

"Oh?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback. Could there be someone from the Gu Group in that van? That would be the only way to explain why it had not been charged in the underground garage! The van was not a military or police vehicle; it bore an ordinary local license plate. If it were not connected to the company that owned the park, there was no way it could have parked for free.

"It's invested by Daddy's company, though the subsidiary has always handled the day-to-day operations," Gu Mengyao said.

"Then we can park for free too?" Wei Zhao asked.

Gu Mengyao looked at Wei Zhao as though he were an alien. She might be the boss's daughter, but was she really going to call Uncle Qing over a few yuan of parking fee? How troublesome would that be?

"Heh..." Wei Zhao gave a faint smile. The people in that van behind them probably weren't short of money either. Anyone who could cross swords with Gu Pengzhan—who would be missing a few yuan for parking?

Still, being able to park for free was also a symbol of status and privilege. The people in that van were probably thinking the same thing.

And Wei Zhao had guessed right!

Inside the van, Zhang Yuzhou beamed at Jin Maosheng. "Brother Jin is something else—doesn't even pay for parking."

"This amusement park was built with the company's investment in the first place, and it just so happens I'm the one in charge of it." Jin Maosheng put his ID card away indifferently. "Since I have the privilege, of course I'm going to use it."

"True enough!" Zhang Yuzhou laughed heartily. "But since this is Brother Jin's territory, it'll be even easier to get things done! I was worried before about how to make our move—now there's no problem!"

"I didn't expect them to come to the amusement park either." A cold smirk flickered at the corner of Jin Maosheng's mouth. "I have a few trusted men in there. We can call on them for help when the time comes."

"These trusted men—they won't talk, will they?" Zhang Yuzhou was a little worried; after all, what they were about to do today was murder.

"Talk? Hmph—they wouldn't dare." Jin Maosheng spoke with contempt. "They're the ones who've been skimming money for me. The amounts they've embezzled are enough to earn them a death sentence if exposed."

"Then there's no problem!" Zhang Yuzhou nodded. Since they were all in the same boat, there was no fear of them turning traitor.

"Pick someone sharp to follow the three of them and report their positions at all times. See what way we can stage an accident," Jin Maosheng said to Zhang Yuzhou.

"No problem." Zhang Yuzhou turned to a rather unremarkable-looking young man in the car. "Xiao Ma, you go ahead."

"Yes, Brother Yuzhou!" The young man called Xiao Ma stepped out of the car and hurried after them.

A cold glint passed through Jin Maosheng's eyes. He was the cautious type. He knew nothing about this young man called Xiao Ma, and Xiao Ma had seen him today. Jin Maosheng's very first thought was that once the matter was concluded, he would have to dispose of Xiao Ma—not letting him bring the slightest shred of trouble.

Although the man behind Li Cihua was all-powerful, if things truly went wrong, he would not stick his neck out over Bingshao's business. Bingshao might be his illegitimate son, but his wife's family was no pushover either—raising an illegitimate son to such an age, and letting it come to light, would mean no end of trouble. Jin Maosheng understood this perfectly well, which was why he always kept an escape route for himself.

"Sister Yaoyao, shall we go bungee jumping now?" Shen Yushu was full of eager anticipation. Although the amusement park was Gu Pengzhan's property, the two of them had only visited once back when it had just opened, and the bungee jumping valley had not yet been finished.

"Bungee jumping right away?" Gu Mengyao had been feeling cooped up and stifled these past few days, wanting badly to let off some steam, but going bungee jumping the very moment they arrived still caught her off guard.

After all, bungee jumping was both dangerous and physically demanding. Gu Mengyao wanted to wander around the rest of the amusement park first.

"Well, looking around first works too. Oh, Sister Yaoyao, how about we go to the haunted house first? I heard the park just built a new haunted house—it's supposed to be terrifying!" Shen Yushu suggested.

"The haunted house?" Gu Mengyao frowned. Why on earth would Shen Yushu want to visit such a childish place? A haunted house? Scare who? It was all just fake stuff—what was there to see?

"Yeah, it's really scary! I heard loads of young couples go there. Once you go in, if your girlfriend gets all frightened, you can take advantage of her!" Shen Yushu said with perfect seriousness.

"Xiaoshu, are you stupid?" Gu Mengyao was rendered speechless. "Then you and Wei Zhao can go, and let him take advantage of you?"

"No way, I'm not scared. I think *you'd* be the one scared, Sister Yaoyao!" Shen Yushu said.

"Me, scared?" Gu Mengyao was even more exasperated. "You think I'd be scared of those childish tricks? Fine, let's go then—let's see who gets scared! But Xiaoshu, I'm warning you: don't get all unhappy when someone takes advantage of you."

"Hehe, Sister Yaoyao, it's not certain who will be taking advantage of whom!" Shen Yushu said with a grin. She had secretly watched a video that Zhong Yongliang had shot on his phone in the haunted house before, and having already seen it once, she naturally wouldn't be too frightened this time.

Gu Mengyao had been there too that day, but she hadn't given Zhong Yongliang the time of day at all, so only Shen Yushu had watched the video. In truth, the reason Zhong Yongliang showed it to Shen Yushu was to get her to goad Gu Mengyao into going to the haunted house with him—but after watching it, Shen Yushu made no mention of him whatsoever.
