Chapter 225 — What Game Is He Playing

The Blossom Guardian

"Got something to say? Say it and get lost." Wei Zhao had no desire to deal with him. The guy was acting like he had a screw loose today. "Wei Zhao, come on. Sure, we've had our misunderstandings before, but none of them are the kind that can't be cleared up!" Zhong Yongliang's words left Wei Zhao frozen in place.

Misunderstandings? Wei Zhao studied Zhong Yongliang with interest. What was wrong with this guy today? Earlier he had been grinning like a lunatic, and now he wanted to talk about misunderstandings? Had he heard that right? Had the man actually lost his mind, or was there some other motive behind this?

"Misunderstandings? Zhong Yongliang, you know better than I do whether what's between us is a misunderstanding. Black Panther is already locked up—how exactly is that going to be cleared up?" Yang Zhao looked at Zhong Yongliang with a half-smile. "Oh, right, I almost forgot—Black Panther seems to have gotten out. You'd better watch your back. Don't let him come looking for trouble with you."

"Ha, Wei Zhao, you really are a joker. What does Brother Black Panther have to do with me? Haha..." Zhong Yongliang let out two dry laughs.

"All right, if you've got business, then get to it. I don't have time to shoot the breeze with you." Wei Zhao frowned. Why did this guy feel so strange?

"Actually, I do have something important to tell you..." Zhong Yongliang lowered his voice. "This is very important. It concerns someone close to you..."

"What is it?" Wei Zhao was getting impatient. Zhong Yongliang was being all cryptic, and it was impossible to tell what he was actually trying to say. But there was no way Wei Zhao would believe a word of what this guy had said before—most of it was lying nonsense.

"I can't say it now... How about this: tonight, I'll treat you to dinner, and then I'll tell you everything in detail!" Zhong Yongliang said. "Of course, if you really don't want to know, you don't have to come. I'm genuinely just trying to help."

Help? Wei Zhao was no fool. From Zhong Yongliang's contradictory words, he could tell this guy was absolutely trying to string him along.

But string him along for what? And why invite him to dinner? What could Zhong Yongliang possibly have that concerned someone close to Wei Zhao?

"Trying to help? If you're really trying to help, then say it now," Wei Zhao said flatly.

"Wei Zhao, you have to understand, coming to tell you this puts me under enormous pressure. It involves another person. I'm going behind his back to inform on him, and I've already struggled a great deal with this in my heart!" Zhong Yongliang said, his face full of worry. "If he finds out I tipped you off, he definitely won't let me off the hook!"

"Inform on him?" Wei Zhao narrowed his eyes slightly and studied the Zhong Yongliang before him, trying to read something from his face, but Zhong Yongliang still wore that same terrified, trembling look.

To play this scene well, Zhong Yongliang had really gone all out. He had planned it for a long time at the classroom door before coming over to carry it out, so naturally he could not let Wei Zhao see through him so easily.

But Wei Zhao had long since determined that this guy definitely had ulterior motives, so there was something wrong here—absolutely something wrong!

"I'll be straight with you. That person is planning to commit a crime against someone close to you! I found out about it, and I'm afraid that once it happens, I'll get dragged into it. You know, failing to report knowledge of a crime is aiding and abetting! I'm afraid of getting sued along with him, so I came running over to tell you about it first!" Zhong Yongliang said in a low voice. "To be honest, I nearly got dragged into a lawsuit over that business with Brother Black Panther last time. My old man had to go to enormous trouble to smooth it over, and I don't want anything else to go wrong. We're about to graduate—I still want to spend my time at university chasing after Gu Mengyao, not vacationing in a prison cell!"

Commit a crime against someone close to him? Wei Zhao raised an eyebrow slightly. Who was this "someone"? Gu Mengyao? Probably not. Zhong Yongliang shouldn't know about his relationship with Gu Mengyao. That being the case, it couldn't be Shen Yushu either.

Then who could it be? Kang...? Tang Zhi?

"All right, that's all I'm going to say. Class is about to start, so I'll head back. Whether you come or not, that's for you to decide!" Zhong Yongliang said, standing up to leave. "I'm being completely sincere here. If you don't come and something happens, don't blame me. I've already given you fair warning!"

Homeroom teacher Liu had already walked in. Zhong Yongliang headed toward his seat, while Wei Zhao gazed deeply at his retreating back. This guy was being awfully attentive for no reason—if he wasn't up to no good, he was up to no good.

Still, that last thing he said had sown doubt in Wei Zhao's mind...

Wei Zhao wasn't afraid of whatever tricks Zhong Yongliang might play on him. But if he tried to play tricks on the people close to Wei Zhao, Wei Zhao would make sure he learned his lesson.

After a moment's hesitation, Wei Zhao sent Gu Mengyao a text message: "Zhong Yongliang wants to treat me to dinner tonight. Says he has something important to tell me, about someone close to me."

After sending the message, Wei Zhao looked over at Gu Mengyao. Sure enough, before long she lowered her head and fiddled with her phone for a bit, and then Wei Zhao's phone buzzed twice, signaling a new message: "Does he know about us?"

"Not sure. Probably not," Wei Zhao replied.

"Oh, then go and take a look. See what he wants," Gu Mengyao replied.

Since Gu Mengyao had said so, Wei Zhao went to see just what kind of trick Zhong Yongliang was trying to play.

When class ended, Zhong Yongliang did not come over again to ask whether Wei Zhao had made up his mind. Instead, he hurried out of the classroom.

Wei Zhao smiled faintly and followed him out. Kang ** came close behind. "Boss, was Zhong Yongliang trying to invite you to dinner earlier?"

Kang ** had been in front of Wei Zhao, so he had naturally caught the gist of it. He had wanted to ask Wei Zhao about it afterward, but Teacher Liu had come in to start the lesson, and he had never found the chance.

"Yeah, I do not know what he is up to. He said he had something important to tell me, something that concerns the people around me." Wei Zhao spoke as he walked. "The friends around me are only you and Tang Zhi. I do not know which of you he meant."

"The people around you?" Kang ** was taken aback as well, then said, "Boss, Zhong Yongliang has gone downstairs. Are we going after him?"

"No, let him go." Wei Zhao walked to the window at the end of the corridor and looked out at the school's *** ground. "He said someone means to harm the people around me, that he came to give me a warning, and that he would only tell me the details if I had dinner with him tonight."

"Harm the people around you?" Kang ** was briefly stunned, then said with disdain, "Is he really that kindhearted? If someone really meant to harm me or Tang Zhi, he would most likely be one of the bunch standing off to the side enjoying the show. Why would he come to warn us in advance?"

"Heh..." Wei Zhao gave a small laugh. How could he fail to understand a truth that even Kang ** could see? He had accepted the invitation not because he trusted Zhong Yongliang, but because he wanted to get to the bottom of it and see what trick he was really playing.
