Chapter 201 — Intermittent Psychosis

The Blossom Guardian

Every time Xiaofen had an episode, it was like this: she sank into hallucinations and raved for a while before gradually drifting into sleep, and when she woke she remembered nothing. This leap from the window was the fruit of one such fit.

Intermittent psychosis. Wei Zhao sighed faintly. Xiaofen had suffered a severe emotional wound that left her with a psychological disorder, and because it had not been guided properly, it had come to this.

Even so, intermittent psychosis was not the same as full insanity; it was only an early omen of it. With correct guidance and treatment, combined with acupuncture, the symptoms could be eased and rooted out altogether.

At the name Kang Jingming, Song Huiping looked again at Kang Xiaofeng, and all at once a look of astonishment spread across her face.

Kang Xiaofeng really did resemble that scoundrel somewhat. Song Huiping frowned. No wonder her daughter had suddenly taken ill, no wonder she had lost her senses and jumped. So it was this student who had done the harm.

But on second thought, a man could not be blamed for the face he was born with, and this one had saved her daughter's life besides. How could she hold a grudge against him?

"Zhaoming, you still have me in your heart, don't you?" Xiaofen gazed at Kang Xiaofeng with glazed, unfocused eyes and began waving her arms, trying to get out of bed and go to him; the IV needle in her hand very nearly came loose from all her thrashing.

Kang Xiaofeng was startled. Fearing she would climb down, he hurried over, only for Xiaofen to throw her arms around him and cling to him with all her strength.

"Zhaoming, you came back to see me after all. You won't leave this time, will you? You'll be good to me for the rest of your life, won't you?" Xiaofen held Kang Xiaofeng and murmured.

"This..." Kang Xiaofeng was somewhat embarrassed. This was the scene he had longed for, Xiaofen in his arms; before, he had been sure it could only be fantasy. Yet now that the fantasy had turned real, he could not muster the slightest joy.

Because of Xiaofen's illness, and because another man still occupied her heart. Though the one she held was Kang Xiaofeng, he was only a stand-in for that other man, Kang Jingming.

Kang Xiaofeng wanted to push her away. An embrace like this made him wretched; he did not want it. What he wanted was a true embrace from Xiaofen, given freely and in her right mind.

"Auntie Song..." Kang Xiaofeng looked up at Song Huiping.

"I'm sorry, young man, you've had to see this..." Song Huiping was equally helpless. "Wait here a moment. I'll go fetch the doctor."

Calling the doctor was all she could do; she was at her wit's end.

"Wait a moment!" Wei Zhao sighed softly. Since this matter had fallen into his lap, and since it somehow involved Kang Xiaofeng, he truly could not stand by.

The hospital's only ways of calming Xiaofen were electroshock or injection, but either one would do her harm. Xiaofen was exceptionally frail just now; another injection or shock to knock her out would only leave her weaker still.

Without waiting for Song Huiping to answer, Wei Zhao strode to Xiaofen's side, glanced at the IV in her hand, saw that the needle had slipped out of the vein, and without hesitation pulled it free. He shut off the drip, then with the needle's tip swiftly pricked the Hegu, Jianshi, Shenmen, Baihui, Daling and other acupoints. The raving Xiaofen gradually grew calm, released Kang Xiaofeng, and quietly sank back onto the bed...

"What—" Song Huiping saw Wei Zhao piercing her daughter with the needle and was about to stop him, but his movements were far too quick; before she could intervene, it was already done.

In the ward, Tang Zhi, Liu Xinlan and Kang Xiaofeng all stared at Wei Zhao in shock, at a loss as to what he was doing.

"Boss, what are you..." Kang Xiaofeng instinctively chose to trust Wei Zhao. He cared deeply for Xiaofen, but instinct told him Wei Zhao would never harm her, and so he felt there must be a reason for everything Wei Zhao did.

"Just a bit of simple acupuncture." Wei Zhao shrugged. "For now she'll settle down and slowly fall asleep. When she wakes, she'll be back to normal."

"Huh? Acupuncture?" Kang Xiaofeng stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief. "Boss, you know acupuncture?"

Not only Kang Xiaofeng; Tang Zhi and Liu Xinlan were staring at Wei Zhao in astonishment too. He actually knew acupuncture?

Song Huiping felt for her daughter's breath and, finding nothing amiss, finally set her heart at ease. Wei Zhao had calmed her daughter with such a simple method, sparing them the need to call for a doctor, saving the medical fees, and sparing her daughter any suffering besides.

Tang Zhi felt that she could no longer see clearly the man before her... If one called him a pampered young master, he did not quite seem to be one, and yet he was even more overbearing than those rich young masters! When he dealt with people, he never went soft.

But he also knew the recipe for the barbecue sauce, and such a thing could not be made by just throwing ingredients together at random. Wei Zhao had needed only a single class period's worth of skill to write it out...

That was not all. Today, at the scene of Lan Zhi's suicide attempt, no one else had noticed Wei Zhao, but Tang Zhi had. Was it he who had helped Kang Xiaofeng catch Lan Zhi?

Before that suspicion had faded, Wei Zhao revealed another formidable skill, his acupuncture technique, and Tang Zhi was forced to reacquaint herself with him... He really was different from those young masters Xiaofen had known before!

And so what if he was different? Tang Zhi scoffed inwardly. Even if he was, she would absolutely never be romantically involved with him. Her first and foremost task was to face the college entrance examination, and she could not afford to be distracted by such things.

Hmph, hmph, little Tang Zhi reminded herself: all of this is merely his outward appearance. Do not be fooled by him, absolutely do not!

Still, the commotion in the room had drawn the attention of the hospital doctors. It was probably the relatives of the other patients in the same ward who had gone to fetch one, and a doctor came running over in haste: "What happened to the patient in bed four?"

"It's all right now, doctor. Sorry to trouble you, it's all right now!" Seeing the doctor arrive, Song Huiping hastily rose and explained.

"It's all right now?" The doctor was taken aback. Had it not been reported that the patient in bed four had suffered a mental breakdown and was in a frenzy?

"This young classmate of mine has already put my daughter to sleep with acupuncture." Fearing the doctor would not believe her, Song Huiping added another explanation.

Hearing this, Wei Zhao groaned inwardly. If you had not explained, it would have been fine; now that you have, things are going to get troublesome!

Sure enough, as soon as the doctor heard Song Huiping's words, his expression changed at once: "Acupuncture? How did you do acupuncture? In a hospital, how can you act so recklessly? What if someone dies?"

"It wasn't reckless... it was just using the needle from an IV drip..." Song Huiping was startled as well and spoke cautiously.

"The needle from an IV drip?" The veins on the doctor's forehead twitched. What kind of doctor was this? A wandering quack? Using an IV needle for acupuncture? What kind of master had taught him that?
