Chapter 180 — The Fretful Little Nurse

The Blossom Guardian

"Oh? Grandfather, you are in a good mood?" Guan Xin forced a smile. Whatever disappointment might be weighing on her heart, it was rare to see her grandfather so cheerful, and she had no wish to spoil it. She did her best to make her own spirits seem normal.

"Ha ha, yesterday I met a young miracle doctor! So many of his ideas opened my eyes and swept away doubts that have puzzled me for half my life." The good mood from Guan Xuewen's meeting and long talk with Wei Zhao yesterday had still not faded. "What a remarkable young man!"

"Young man? Miracle doctor?" Guan Xin was rather surprised. Her grandfather was a leading figure in the world of Chinese medicine, known to outsiders as Doctor Guan. For anyone to be called a miracle doctor in his mouth, how formidable must that person be? Yet from the gist of her grandfather's words, this person seemed very young? A young man?

"Ambition does not wait on years," Guan Xuewen said with a wave of his hand. "He and I may have no name of master and disciple, but we have had the time of master and disciple. Toward him, your grandfather conducts himself as a disciple before a master."

"As a disciple before a master?" Guan Xin's eyes went wide, and she stared at her grandfather in disbelief. It was not as though he had just woken up and was talking nonsense, was it? Could there really be someone that formidable?

"Xinxin, this young man is a fine one. When you have a day off, cook a few of your best dishes at home, and I will invite him over!" Guan Xuewen said with a smile. "Xinxin, you are not young anymore. It is time you gave some thought to your lifelong affairs..."

"Grandfather," Guan Xin said, wriggling coyly, and lowered her head in embarrassment. Yet somehow, an image of Wei Zhao flashed through her mind...

It was not that Guan Xin failed to understand her grandfather's meaning. It seemed her grandfather held that young miracle doctor in such high esteem that he meant to bring the two of them together. But she was not much taken with the idea. For one thing, the two of them did not know each other at all... and for another... just thinking of it made her blush...

"Ha ha," Guan Xuewen said. Naturally he could not read his granddaughter's thoughts, and simply assumed she was shy, so he said no more. "Hurry back to your room and rest. You must not have slept well on night duty, have you?"

"Yes, Grandfather. Then I will go up first." Guan Xin nodded, sighed faintly, and went into the villa, heading for her room.

When school let out that evening, Wei Zhao had to go to the snack street to fetch his car. After parting with Kang Xiaofeng, he headed in that direction. Earlier he had sent messages to Shen Yushu and Gu Mengyao, telling them that he had driven to school and would not be leaving with them that evening.

Wei Zhao had meant to stop by Aunt Tang's barbecue stall to ask about the exact time that weekend and the address of her home, but he found that Aunt Tang had not set up her stall today, so he could only drive off first.

Back in the villa district, Wei Zhao did not go straight to Gu Mengyao's villa. Instead he went first to Shen Yushu's, intending to bring her computer over, so that it would be more convenient when he needed to look things up.

The layout of Shen Yushu's villa was basically the same as Gu Mengyao's, and even the style of the decor was similar. They had presumably been decorated together.

Seeing the little bras and panties scattered everywhere across the living room and the sofa, Wei Zhao broke out in a sweat. He restrained himself from looking any further. He had no wish for Shen Yushu to take him for a madman, although she was not here now and would never know.

He went upstairs. This was the first time Wei Zhao had seen the upper floor of the villa, and Gu Mengyao's was presumably much the same. There were four rooms up there. In the spirit of "do not look upon what is improper," Wei Zhao found the study, carried the desktop computer down from the desk, then locked the villa door and left.

As for the other things in the villa, Wei Zhao did not touch them. That girl Chen was no one to fool with. If he moved anything of hers, would he not be handing her yet another hold over him?

By the time Wei Zhao returned to his villa, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were sitting in the living room watching television. For once, remarkably, the two of them were actually watching TV; ordinarily when they came home, they went straight upstairs.

Seeing Wei Zhao come in lugging a computer, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu both glanced at him, then returned their eyes to the television screen.

Wei Zhao glanced at the screen. It was a celebrity concert, a rather pretty girl hopping and bouncing about on stage, except that she was wearing a bit too much clothing... Wei Zhao thought to himself that it would be better if she wore a little less...

"Hey, do you want to watch the concert with us? The big star Xu Shilan is on, you know!" Shen Yushu said without taking her eyes off the screen.

"Oh, no thanks, you two watch." Wei Zhao was not much interested in this sort of celebrity concert. There was too much negative news in the entertainment world, and it made Wei Zhao feel that the girl on television was plainly faking purity, good only for fooling young girls like Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.

Since Wei Zhao did not watch, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu showed no particular displeasure. This was their idol, and whether Wei Zhao liked her or not was no concern of theirs.

Wei Zhao carried the computer back to his room. After hooking it up, he found that the indicator light on the computer's network card was not lit. The network port on the wall was fine, so the only possibility was that the line for this room had not been plugged into the network switch at the building's entry point.

Wei Zhao came out of his room again. "Yaoyao, where is the network switch for the building? The network port in my room has no signal."

"Go upstairs and fix it yourself. Don't bother me, I'm watching the concert." Gu Mengyao waved her hand with a hint of impatience. The room Wei Zhao now occupied had never been lived in before, so it was only natural that the network cable had not been plugged in properly.

"Me? Upstairs?" Wei Zhao was taken aback. Weren't they refusing to let him go up? And today they were allowing it? True, both of them were downstairs, but upstairs was, after all, their own private little world, wasn't it?

"You are not to enter Xiaoshu's room or mine. The network data box is in the middle of the staircase. General Weiwu, you follow him. If he wanders where he shouldn't, bite him!" Gu Mengyao was plainly engrossed in the concert on television, so much so that she paid no mind even to Wei Zhao going upstairs. Yet she was not foolish enough to leave it at that; she dispatched General Weiwu to follow him. But would that do any good?

General Weiwu let out a mournful growl and wagged its tail at Gu Mengyao's feet with some reluctance.

"What? You want to watch the concert too?" Gu Mengyao assumed General Weiwu was unwilling to leave the television. "You lecherous dog!"

"Woof-woo..." General Weiwu gave another dejected growl and ran off toward Wei Zhao.

Yet when it reached him, it dared not come too close, and merely trailed weakly behind Wei Zhao.

Wei Zhao's mood at this moment was one of excitement and unease. He had been to Shen Yushu's home before, and had gone up to the second floor as well. But that place had stood empty for a long time, and Shen Yushu had only moved in recently. To visit a maiden's chamber devoid of any human warmth was nothing to get excited about.

But now it was different. At the thought that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu slept up there every night, Wei Zhao could not help but feel stirred...
