Chapter 108 — Have Someone Look Into Him
……………………
Having finished pushing the cars, Wei Zhao ignored whatever the punk girl had to say, completely disregarding her. He got straight into Gu Mengyao's Audi S5 and swiftly maneuvered it out through the narrow gap he had just cleared, his speed and precision leaving everyone present speechless.
The gap Wei Zhao had opened was not large, just enough for a single car to pass, and "just enough" meant the clearance on either side would certainly not exceed two centimeters.
At such a distance, most people would struggle to keep control; the slightest deviation and a scrape was inevitable. Yet Wei Zhao moved the car out without the least effort, and at such speed that he seemed not to have considered at all whether he might graze the nearby cars.
A pro — this man was actually a pro behind the wheel. Feng Xiaoxiao — the punk girl from before — tensed inwardly. She had assumed he was merely a strong-armed, good-looking guard dog that some rich young lady had taken a fancy to and kept at her side. She had never imagined his driving would be this formidable.
Feng Xiaoxiao frowned slightly. Though she had never hired a personal bodyguard herself, she knew the going rate. To hire a guard like Wei Zhao — handsome, immensely strong, and unbeatable behind the wheel — would not be easy in the first place, and even if one could, it would never come cheap.
As for the two young ladies behind Wei Zhao, Feng Xiaoxiao had grown a little curious too. She noted the S5's plate number, meaning to look into it once she got back.
Wei Zhao pulled the car out, did not spare Feng Xiaoxiao and her friends another glance, and got out to climb into the back seat.
Only now did Gu Mengyao feel that Wei Zhao was not so detestable after all. At least today's affair had won her plenty of face. In the past, faced with something like this, she could only have called the police. But Wei Zhao had shoved the blocking cars aside in no time flat and driven her out.
Shooting Feng Xiaoxiao a rather smug look, under that girl's murderous glare, she got in, stepped on the gas, and sped off in a cloud of dust.
Feng Xiaoxiao was furious. She had meant no harm — she had merely happened upon one of this year's newly released Audi S5 sports cars and wanted to see what sort of person drove it, to challenge him to a race. Who would have thought she would run into such a creature?
The car was not Wei Zhao's but belonged to that so-called young miss behind him, yet in Feng Xiaoxiao's eyes Wei Zhao was the more detestable of the two. Nothing but a rich girl's lapdog. Handsome enough, sure, and he had looked rather dashing pushing those cars, and his driving was beyond reproach — but he was someone's errand boy, and so smug about it.
The thought that she had actually been bullied by another person's lapdog infuriated Feng Xiaoxiao all the more. What kind of nonsense was this, that even someone else's servant could trample all over her?
Hmph. Next time I run into you, I'll show you just how formidable Feng Xiaoxiao can be.
"Sister Feng... what do you think?" The trendy young man was in a bind too. After all, anyone driving an Audi S5 was plainly no ordinary sort. Ignorance bred boldness, true, but their families all had business interests, and some had relatives in key government departments. None of them were especially powerful, but they had brushed against Songshan's upper circles to one degree or another.
They knew where the lines were. Before they had figured out the other party's background, it was unwise to make enemies lightly. Their old men might have a bit of pull, but only ordinary pull at that; if they truly provoked someone formidable, they would be the ones swallowing a bitter pill.
Had it been an ordinary person, the trendy young man would long since have led the pack in a rush to give Wei Zhao a good beating, all to curry favor with Feng Xiaoxiao. But as the saying went, one must spare the dog for the sake of its master. Gu Mengyao was clearly no lowly sort, and the trendy young man dared not act rashly, lest he drag even his own father into it.
"What are you staring at? Let's go." Feng Xiaoxiao gave a cold snort, her face full of displeasure. "Boring."
"Sister Feng, how about I have someone look into that guy?" The trendy young man was no fool; he knew Gu Mengyao was not to be trifled with, and cleverly shifted his attention to Wei Zhao. In his view, as long as Wei Zhao was not with Gu Mengyao, it would be fine. Moving against a mere servant — couldn't they handle him however they liked?
Even if trouble did arise, even if the other side had some influence, no one would go to war over a servant against the likes of them. Their own families were all mid-tier, true, but Feng Xiaoxiao's family was another matter entirely.
"Go on, then. While you're at it, check that Audi S5's plate for me. Song A-S-5555 — good plate, actually." Feng Xiaoxiao gave a humph, which amounted to tacit approval of the trendy young man's plan.
"Got it, Sister Feng. I'll find someone to look into it right away." The trendy young man nodded, pulled out his phone and dialed a number. He said a few words, then his expression changed at once. "Brother Lan, what did you say? The car's on a classified file? How is that possible... it's clearly a civilian plate series... A military local-issue plate? All right, I understand..."
He hung up, his face sour as a bitter melon. "Sister Feng, this car is actually on a classified file..."
Feng Xiaoxiao had naturally caught the gist of his phone call too, and her expression now was predictably none too pleasant. A classified file for the car was quite possible — her father's car was on one, as was common among certain government officials and people of standing; ordinary people were not permitted to look into them at will.
But the trendy young man's final words made Feng Xiaoxiao knit her brows tightly. A military local plate? Now that was interesting. A military local-issue plate was not something one could obtain merely with a little local influence — and even those who could get one usually ended up with a standard military plate, not this understated military local-issue variety.
But even so, so what? The one she meant to make trouble for was not Gu Mengyao herself, but that lackey servant of hers. Hmph, with her father's position, even military personnel could not touch her, let alone her grandfather...
Comforted by this thought, Feng Xiaoxiao turned to the trendy young man. "Forget about that car for now. Look into that bodyguard's identity for me. Find out who he is and which company he belongs to..."
"No problem, Sister Feng." Earlier, when the trendy young man heard that Gu Mengyao's car carried military classified files, he had balked. With his family's standing, a figure of that caliber was simply not someone to be trifled with. But now, hearing that Feng Xiaoxiao only wanted him to target the bodyguard rather than Gu Mengyao, he breathed a sigh of relief. "I already snapped a photo of him on my phone just now. I'll have someone look into it straight away."
"Oh? Really? You got a picture?" Feng Xiaoxiao blinked in surprise, then broke into a delighted smile. "Send it to me via Bluetooth..."
