Chapter 98 — It Can Actually Drift?

The Blossom Guardian

"Arrowhead, why don't you get out and take a look, see what's going on up ahead?" Shen Yushu ordered Wei Zhao offhandedly.

"Uh... it'd make more sense for you to go than me. Otherwise, if I get out, you'll have to get out first anyway." Wei Zhao said with a wry smile.

Only then did Shen Yushu remember that there was no door beside Wei Zhao's back seat, so she had no choice but to get out herself. Though a crowd of onlookers had gathered ahead, when they saw a pretty girl like Shen Yushu, plenty of people naturally made way. She soon came running back and said to Gu Mengyao, "Yao-yao, there's been a car accident up ahead. I'm guessing we won't be getting through for a while."

"You're kidding? What rotten luck. Then let's find a place to park and walk the rest of the way." Hearing Shen Yushu's words, Gu Mengyao said with some resignation.

"There's a public parking spot over there..." Shen Yushu pointed at a metered parking lot a short distance to the left of the road.

"Uh... Xiaoshu, you're a bit wicked, you know that? You really think I can park in there?" Gu Mengyao glanced at the spot in the lot. In front was a Toyota Coaster, behind it a Jinbei van—the two vehicles, front and rear, were big to begin with, and they had squeezed the space between them down to almost nothing. An ordinary person could never get a car in there.

Even if Gu Mengyao's Audi S5 was a little smaller, getting it in would be no ordinary feat.

Otherwise, in a commercial district this short on parking, on a weekend no less, would a space just happen to be sitting empty? It would have been snapped up long ago.

"Then what do we do?" Shen Yushu didn't drive and hadn't thought that far. Now, looking closely at the spot, she saw it really would be hard to park in.

"Tell you what—let's just park on the side of the road." As she spoke, Gu Mengyao started the car and pulled over to the curb.

Wei Zhao looked at the big No Parking sign beside the car, then gave Gu Mengyao a stunned look.

"Anyway, getting a ticket doesn't cost us any points, and Uncle Qing will take care of it." Gu Mengyao read his mind and shrugged indifferently.

Wei Zhao sighed inwardly. A rich girl really was a rich girl. He'd thought she was different from other second-generation rich kids, but in fact they all shared one trait: money meant nothing to them.

"Let me do it." Speechless, Wei Zhao took the keys from Gu Mengyao's hand and sat down in the driver's seat.

"Hey, what are you doing? You don't even have a license!" Caught off guard, Gu Mengyao had her keys snatched and watched him get in the car.

"Illegally parked vehicles will be towed away..." Wei Zhao pointed at the small print beneath the sign. "Didn't you see what it says underneath? I'm worried if you park here, we won't be able to get back later."

Without waiting for Gu Mengyao to respond, Wei Zhao quickly started the car. He stamped on the accelerator, and the car shot toward the public lot on the left side of the road. As it neared the space, Wei Zhao whipped the steering wheel back, braking and pulling the handbrake at the same time—a turn spanning five meters and one hundred eighty degrees. The car executed a beautiful tail slide and settled neatly into the parking spot.

Wei Zhao had once watched a video online of someone stealing a parking space. It had looked like fun, so he'd found a beat-up car and practiced it a couple of times.

"Ah—" Watching the car spin on the pavement, Gu Mengyao thought her car was done for. She was just regretting letting Wei Zhao take the keys when she looked up in astonishment to find the car perfectly parked in the spot.

"A drift! Yao-yao, did you see that? It really was a drift—Arrowhead can drift!" Shen Yushu cried out excitedly.

"Didn't he say he didn't have a license? Liar!" Though Gu Mengyao felt a twinge of envy at Wei Zhao's drift, thinking back to how he'd claimed he had no license left her annoyed. What a big fraud—making her chauffeur him around for nothing. With skills like that, and he still said he couldn't drive... Uh? Only then did Gu Mengyao recall that Wei Zhao hadn't actually said he couldn't drive—only that he didn't have a license...

Under the utterly stunned gaze of the parking lot attendant, Wei Zhao got out, handed him five yuan, then locked the car and jogged briskly over to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.

"Done." Wei Zhao handed the keys back to Gu Mengyao.

"Hey, you didn't grind down my tires, did you?" Gu Mengyao muttered.

"Heh..." Wei Zhao just smiled.

"Arrowhead, you can drift? When are you going to teach me?" Shen Yushu was clearly fascinated by the way Wei Zhao had parked just now.

"We'll talk about it when you have a car." Wei Zhao brushed her off. This sort of thing could not be taught by instruction alone. True, he had picked it up after watching a video twice, but that had rested on his own nimble hands and feet and his bodily coordination. Misjudge it even slightly, and the car would be a wreck.

"Oh, I have a car, right in my garage at home. Once we get back, you're teaching me." Shen Yushu cried out excitedly.

"Huh?" Wei Zhao was taken aback. He had not expected Shen Yushu to have a car too, and for a moment he was at a loss for words.

"All right, when there's time." Wei Zhao had no choice but to say.

Gu Mengyao felt a touch of disdain for the way Shen Yushu groveled before Wei Zhao with her pleas. What gave him the right? He was nothing but a shield her daddy had hired. Did asking him to teach a thing or two really require this sort of begging?

"Hey, you have to teach us. My daddy pays your salary," Gu Mengyao said.

"Fine, then I'll first ask Mr. Gu whether I'm allowed to teach you two how to drift." Wei Zhao nodded with a smile.

"You—" Gu Mengyao was choked with anger. The way this man looked at Xiaoshu, he seemed to treat her better than he treated me? At that thought, a sourness rose in Gu Mengyao's heart. I'm the young miss here, aren't I?

"Let's go, Yao-yao. Let's hit the shops first." Shen Yushu had no mind today for watching Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao bicker. It was rare enough that she had gotten out to go shopping; of course she meant to buy plenty.

Senior year of high school left little time to squander. Even clever girls like Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, who knew how to study efficiently, could not afford to slack off. There were plenty of other clever people out there, after all.

Gu Mengyao thought about it and supposed she was right. It was a rare outing, and though she was still a little steamed, she could not be bothered to deal with Wei Zhao. She took Shen Yushu by the hand and walked on ahead.

Wei Zhao gave a chuckle and followed behind the two of them. When they reached the place up ahead where the accident had happened, he casually glanced that way, then paused slightly and frowned. He quickened his pace toward the crowd.

Wei Zhao was not a man who meddled in other people's business, but today's affair was one he truly could not ignore. Because over by the scene of the crash was someone he knew.

It was Wang Xinyan, the girl he had met on the train. At that moment she stood helplessly beside a red sports car, phone in hand, waiting there in a panic, while two middle-aged strangers, a man and a woman, stood beside her, pointing at her and talking nonstop...

It looked as though Wang Xinyan had run into trouble.
