Chapter 55 — It Was a Sensational Fight (Part Three)
"A gun—they came with a gun!" Zhang Xiaohua shrieked, pointing at Brother Black Panther.
At her cry, the other teachers all turned to look at Brother Black Panther—and sure enough, at some point he had produced a jet-black pistol, aimed straight at Wei Zhao.
"Nobody move—call the police, quick!" Wang Zhifeng sensed at once that this was bad. This was already beyond the school's ability to handle. He had never imagined that Brother Black Panther and his lot would dare to draw a gun on school grounds; once this blew up into a real disaster, it was not something he, a mere dean of discipline, could shoulder. The principal, most likely, would be dragged into it too...
What Wei Zhao had not expected was that Brother Black Panther would turn desperate, and rather than concede, would pull a gun on him.
"You little bastard, weren't you acting tough? Go on, act tough! Fuck, you see what I've got in my hand? Bet you've never seen one of these, huh?" Brother Black Panther was in agony all over, but he was also thoroughly enjoying himself; he loved this feeling of looking down on someone.
"It's just a gun, isn't it?" Wei Zhao glanced at Brother Black Panther and said flatly.
At those words, Brother Black Panther nearly exploded with rage. What did the brat mean, just a gun? Did he think it was a toy? Brother Black Panther was deeply nettled. He knew that one twitch of his hand would be the end of Wei Zhao, but what he wanted even more was to see Wei Zhao scared witless and begging for his life.
"That's right, it's a gun. So go to hell, kid!" A cruel, savage light flickered in Brother Black Panther's eyes.
"Bang..." A gunshot tore across the sky above the school playground... Every teacher and student was frozen in shock.
They had never imagined that anyone would dare to fire a gun in a school, let alone commit murder with one. And at this moment, the most nervous of all were those six people...
Gu Mengyao tightened her grip on Shen Yushu's small hand; sweat had soaked her entire palm. The instant Brother Black Panther drew the gun, her heart gave a sudden lurch, as though it had lost all its footing...
Back at the bank, when Wei Zhao had stood up to face the muzzle of a gun, she had not felt this way—but now... the feeling was uncommonly intense. She did not want to admit it, yet in her heart she could not help but pray that nothing would happen to Wei Zhao...
Shen Yushu, too, was thrown into confusion. What was happening now had completely exceeded her imagination. She had never thought Zhong Yongliang would do something so extreme as to hire someone to kill Wei Zhao.
Zhong Yongliang probably had not expected it either—that Brother Black Panther would pull a gun in school. At the end of the day, he was still a student; he had only wanted to teach Wei Zhao a lesson, not to kill him. If Brother Black Panther shot Wei Zhao dead in front of everyone, he would not be able to escape involvement either.
Kang Xiaofeng, too, watched Wei Zhao with concern, but faced with that black muzzle, though he wanted to say something, his legs had stopped obeying him and he could not take a single step.
Of course, no one was more worried than Wang Zhifeng. He had never imagined that the people Zhong Yongliang brought along would be so brazen as to use a firearm on campus—and to actually fire it.
"Awooo..." Brother Black Panther let out a heart-rending scream. The fingers of his entire right hand were gone; only half a bloody palm remained, a horrifying sight.
The pistol—had burst.
Of course, this was no accident. However shoddy a knockoff pistol might be, it would not burst so easily. The truth was that just before Brother Black Panther pulled the trigger, Wei Zhao had swiftly stamped a foot down on the barrel, and the barrel had warped on the spot... But all of this happened in the blink of an eye, so fast that even Brother Black Panther himself did not notice. After the gun had been stamped on, he did not even glance at it; he simply raised his hand and fired at Wei Zhao.
That was not the end of it. Wei Zhao, deciding he might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb, swung his leg and stamped down hard on Brother Black Panther's other hand and both his legs. The crisp crack of breaking bone, accompanied by Brother Black Panther's ever-weakening howls, made everyone present shudder involuntarily.
Zhong Yongliang's legs had long since gone weak with fright. He, Gao Xiaofu, and Zhang Naipao had hidden behind a nearby basketball hoop and did not dare come any closer...
Zou Ruoming's feelings at this moment were difficult to describe. The instant Brother Black Panther drew the gun, his heart had surged—tinged with a trace of panic. His own brother ran with the underworld, true, but even he had never handled a real gun.
"Brother Ming, he's got a gun..." Zou Ruoming's underling gaped, pointing in Brother Black Panther's direction.
"I have eyes. I can see for myself." Zou Ruoming held his breath and shot his underling a glare. At a critical moment like this, he did not want to be disturbed. Zou Ruoming felt as though he were inside a blockbuster movie. He did not share Zhong Yongliang's unease; whether Wei Zhao was shot dead or not, he could sit back as a bystander and enjoy the show.
The gunshot, the howling—but what Zou Ruoming saw was not the Wei Zhao he had imagined, collapsed in a pool of blood. Instead, he saw Brother Black Panther, with only half a palm left, howling there like a madman.
"Holy shit, no way! Ming, that gun looks like it blew up in his hand," Zou Ruoming's underling said, eyes wide.
"Don't mess with that kid from now on..." Zou Ruoming watched Wei Zhao stomp on Brother Black Panther, foot after foot, and a chill ran through his whole body. "That kid is a fucking lunatic."
Zou Ruoming was most reluctant to say such a thing in front of his own men, but he had no choice, because he was afraid his men might provoke this born berserker and bring even greater trouble down on him.
Zou Ruoming knew his own limits well. If even Brother Black Panther was no match for him, going up himself would only get him chewed up and spat out. But to cover his embarrassment, Zou Ruoming added another line: "That kid is a fucking lunatic." That way, the meaning shifted: Wei Zhao was a lunatic, and ordinary people naturally could not be compared with lunatics, so his face was saved.
As it happened, Zou Ruoming did not even need to explain. His underlings were already scared stiff. Anyone who could beat a big society brother like Brother Black Panther until he squealed and shrieked was not someone they had the guts to provoke.
"Hmph, that thing just loves to... to show off," Gu Mengyao said coldly, though her face showed some indignation. She breathed a sigh of relief seeing that Wei Zhao was fine. She had wanted to say "put on airs," but she thought the phrase was unrefined, so at the last moment it came out as "show off."
"I told you this Arrow-Brand guy was badass," Shen Yushu said to Gu Mengyao with a grin, also relieved, her face restored to its usual smile.
But the most excited of all was Kang Xiaofeng. Watching Wei Zhao trample Brother Black Panther again and again, he felt an indescribable rush of satisfaction. He wanted to go up and stomp along with Wei Zhao, but he glanced at the group of school leaders not far away, gritted his teeth, and charged over to kick Brother Black Panther hard in the crotch: "Fuck you, that's for hitting my boss!"
