Chapter 300 — The Ginseng Baby Wants to Self-Destruct
The Beast-Taming Craftsman Page 3 of 3
"But it is a rare chance to self-destruct once. It would be a waste to just blow up on the spot. I feel it would be better to self-destruct in battle." Shi Jin stroked his chin and said, "If only there were a powerful enemy. A self-destruction would at least yield more benefits... and we could observe the effect more directly, which would help for future use."
Shen Baobao gazed at Shi Jin eagerly. Was there one? Was there one?
Fishing... entrapment?!!
2021 Year-End Summary
Happy New Year, everyone!
"Unscientific Beast Taming" was published on July 1st, and half a year has passed since then. I'm very grateful for everyone's support.
This half-year feels longer than finishing an entire book in the past...
1.31 million words in half a year, no more, no less. Taking advantage of the year-end, I'd like to share with you all the results from this half year.
After all, this book is my child, and also everyone's child? (struck through)
As my first work transitioning from fan fiction to original, to be honest, my initial goal was just to work hard and reach ten thousand subscriptions.
After all, before this, the best result for the beast taming genre was just over ten thousand average subscriptions, absolutely niche on Qidian, not even as good as the average performance of Pokemon fan fiction.
So this transition, whether it was toward a broader audience or a more niche one, was hard to say, so some worry was inevitable.
Fortunately, it succeeded.
Without the support of old and new friends alike, "Unscientific Beast Taming" could never have come this far.
Before the book was published, my former editor [Xingye] patiently wrote me tens of thousands of words, explaining in detail the differences between fan fiction and original work, giving me several lessons that benefited me greatly. Much gratitude. Editors nowadays really are incredibly capable.
After publication, my current chief editor [Binggan] and editor [Huiye] followed through the entire process, handling all the miscellaneous affairs of the book, still helping with various events for Beast Taming even after work hours. They helped enormously.
Operations officer [Weila] is someone everyone knows even better, finding artists to draw fan art for Beast Taming, asking authors for chapter recommendations, donating to help boost the rankings, hosting monthly reader events. I call her Beast Taming's strongest pillar... And all the old readers who followed along since Ting Shu and Sect Master, your presence is so familiar, as well as every new reader, thank you all.
I wonder what the animated designs for Shiyi, Chongchong, Can Baobao and the others will look like... Anyway, I'm very satisfied with the beast designs that the great [Qixian Ji] drew for the Unscientific Beast Taming themed card set. I hope they'll be just as good, haha. Oh right, the Unscientific Beast Taming themed cards should launch in February. They're basically all drawn now, so everyone can look forward to them.
Lastly, let me tell you about my health. Recently my health hasn't been great, and I've already been to the hospital several times. Updates won't be very stable, so please bear with me. The current progress is still in the early stages, about a quarter through. The biggest climax of the first volume, the world war that bridges the entire story, has only just been mentioned. Writing a book is a prolonged battle, and I don't want my body to collapse at this point. The results are good right now, and no one wants to update faster and more than I do, but I truly have the will but not the strength. My body reacts on its own... However, I've also been trying to find solutions. For example, I've recently been experimenting with voice-to-text writing. I don't know how effective it'll be once I'm proficient, or whether I can update more. Let's see how it goes next month!
In the new year, I'll do my utmost to write the rest of the Beast Taming story well. Even when my first book couldn't get a contract at a few hundred thousand words, and had barely any first subscriptions, I persisted and wrote it to completion at 2.8 million words. So this book will also be seen through to the end. Please believe in me.
Thank you all for your understanding and support. Finally, I'd like to ask for one guaranteed monthly vote for the new year and new month. There weren't many double updates at month's end, and since I didn't have a burst of chapters, I didn't feel right asking for votes. But I hope the new year can start well, so I'm asking for a guaranteed monthly vote. Thanks again.
Wishing everyone a happy new year and may all your wishes come true!
