Chapter 1296 — The Unified Wave Hypothesis

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

"In that state, I also took care to observe the magic observation device set at the center of the test site. I saw that pure, high-intensity arcane ray—it struck a tremor wave denser and of higher frequency than itself, and the ripples it excited spread through space. And that... was the light and dark bands we observe in the material world."

Myrmina paused there for a moment before continuing, "That is everything I observed—but it is not the most accurate description. Unfortunately, the information that language and writing can convey is limited, and much of what I saw and perceived then exceeds the cognitive habits people are accustomed to."

Myrmina was describing a scene that to the mortals of this age would sound utterly fantastical. She chose words as accurate, fitting, and unambiguous as possible, yet she still worried that Gao Yang, Amber, and the royal mages listening wide-eyed beside them would be unable to imagine what she described—in fact, she had already prepared herself for no one to understand these words, because she knew that the truth she had discovered was, for most people... too early.

But Gao Yang had fallen into a thoughtful state as she described it. Those strange and bizarre phrases sparked associations in his mind, and after several minutes of contemplation, he suddenly broke the silence. "So, you believe all things in our world may be formed from fundamental 'fluctuations'—that our material basis, at some level closest to the 'origin,' is actually non-physical and without fixed form?"

Myrmina could hardly conceal her surprise. She looked at Gao Yang in astonishment. "That... from a certain perspective, yes, it could be described that way..."

"So it's not just magic that exhibits wave properties. In theory, all things in the world are a kind of wave—but due to the existence of some limiting condition, let's assume it's a critical point, a critical point in the microscopic domain. Because of this critical point, only magic exhibits wave properties observable by us, while the wave nature of everything else is hidden beyond our 'observable region'..."

Gao Yang spoke as he reasoned, and though he was no magic theory expert comparable to Kamael and the others, another kind of wisdom had accumulated in his mind—wisdom that let him understand, from a special perspective, everything Myrmina had witnessed at the divine realm test site that day, and even led him to further theoretical deduction.

"The most crucial link in this theory is that 'we' ourselves are also constrained by this ceaselessly trembling wave system," he said, looking into Myrmina's eyes. The "Sovereign of All Magic" had now leaned down again, her figure towering and deeply imposing, yet her posture was entirely that of a beautiful lady absorbed in discussion and exploration, driven by curiosity. And under the gaze of those eyes brimming with mysterious radiance, Gao Yang's thoughts only grew clearer. "If all things are waves, then we 'observers' would be fixed to a certain 'link' in the universe by the bonds of our own 'frequency' or 'waveform.' Our field of vision would be likewise constrained, and even the observation tools we can touch and use would be subject to this limitation, unable to cross the critical point of the microscopic domain...

"From a certain angle, this question will be neither provable nor disprovable for a long time to come. So by strict academic rules, it can only be a hypothesis..."

"Yes, for now it can only be a hypothesis, unless we find evidence to support or refute it," Myrmina said frankly. "Although that day, from my special perspective, I observed phenomena that seem to prove this theory, my observation cannot be reproduced, cannot be preserved as evidence, and there is no proof that what I 'saw' then was real and undisturbed. It cannot serve as evidence."

Amber looked at Gao Yang, then at Myrmina. She felt her head heating up, but she still managed to catch the tail of the topic and understood a small part of it. Astonishment and bewilderment appeared on her face, and after pondering hard for a while, she casually drew out the small dagger she always carried. Tossing it from hand to hand, she stared at Gao Yang with wide, bewildered eyes. "Hey, wait—so by your logic, even this dagger of mine is fundamentally made of 'fluctuations'? Like that 'bzzz—' feeling? If that were really true, how would this dagger stay obediently in my hand? Wouldn't it merge with me, or fall out of my hand, or just dissipate altogether..."

The more she spoke, the more confused she made herself. Then she looked up and saw the caring look Gao Yang was giving her, and immediately shrank her neck. "Okay, my brain isn't suited for thinking about this. Pretend I didn't say anything..."

"Thinking is a good thing. You've already thought more deeply than the vast majority of ordinary people, and you've pointed out a key point—that 'the恰到好处 tremor of all things is what gives our world the appearance it has before our eyes,'" Gao Yang said, feeling he should comfort Amber—at least her current effort to use her brain was truly far better than before, and what he said was not entirely just comfort. "What Myrmina and I are talking about is that 'the fundamental level of matter is waves,' not that 'a certain object is a wave.' These are different concepts. In the domain of 'matter' as we understand it, this wave nature may only appear at the microscopic level, and your dagger... that thing is macroscopic."

Myrmina's voice came at that moment, "If our theory is correct, then the boundary between 'microscopic' and 'macroscopic' has actually already blurred. As 'observers,' our cognition of macroscopic and microscopic, material and immaterial, is all constrained by our own 'basis.' But if some external force were to change that 'basis,' then the entire world might present a different appearance before our eyes..."

Gao Yang thought, then suddenly said softly, "If that's really the case, then all the phenomena caused by magic—the material paradox behind transformation spells, the blurred boundary between spiritual power and physical substance... even the magic tide—all seem to have an explanation... If all things in the world achieve the ultimate unity at the fundamental level, if all of this is the result of various waves interfering with and superimposing on one another, then all of it would be reasonable..."

Myrmina looked somewhat puzzled. "Did you previously think these things were unreasonable?"

Gao Yang smiled. He could not explain this question to Myrmina, so he only brushed it aside, then said with a very serious expression, "Don't you think we should give this hypothesis a name right now?"
