Chapter 1060 — Breaking the Limit

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

Gao Yang shot to his feet from behind the desk: Test Site No. 1—that was indeed where Rebecca was currently conducting the ultra-high-speed matter acceleration project!

He strode toward the study door, saying only two words: "Get the car."

"Hey, I'm coming with you!" Tyr, having finally caught his breath, followed without hesitation, rapidly wriggling his tail as he shouted, "If there are injured people over there, I can help with emergency treatment..."

Gao Yang shot a quick glance sideways at Tyr and gave a slight nod. On his other side, a faint dark shadow instantly emerged from the empty air and then swiftly vanished again—Amber had already gone to get the car.

...

In the shortest possible time, Gao Yang arrived at Test Site No. 1 outside the city. Even before entering the site, he had already seen from afar the wisps of blue smoke still drifting above the large laboratory, and a strange "trace" suspended in the air only a dozen or so meters above the ground between the laboratory and the Whitewater River.

The trace floated in the air, semi-transparent. It seemed to have dissipated considerably with the passage of time, but even when Gao Yang arrived it was still visible to the naked eye.

Before reaching the test site, Gao Yang had in fact already set his mind at ease: a ranger squad operating nearby had rushed to the scene in time and sent back a report—no one had been killed or seriously injured in the accident, only a few had suffered minor injuries, and Rebecca was safe and sound.

After arriving at the parking lot outside the laboratory, Gao Yang immediately saw the enormous hole in the side of the white building—it could hardly be called a "hole" anymore. It had torn away nearly three-quarters of the wall and taken a large section of the roof with it, as though some gigantic, terrifying beast had bitten a great chunk out of the structure.

By the time Gao Yang arrived, smoke was still billowing around the "opening." Countless fragments of shattered building debris lay scattered across the large open space outside it, and many bedraggled technicians had evacuated from the laboratory and were dispersed here and there across the grounds—some receiving treatment for injuries, others engaged in heated discussion about something.

Gao Yang also found Rebecca—her face was soot-blackened, her hair especially disheveled, and she wore a long robe, torn in many places, over her dress, looking just as bedraggled as the other technicians.

Seeing her ancestor appear, the silly girl came running over at once in high spirits, a brilliant smile blooming on her soot-blackened face as she opened her mouth to reveal her white fangs: "Ancestor, you're here! Guess what I made this time!"

"Never mind that for now," Gao Yang said. Seeing that Rebecca was indeed safe and sound, he kept his stern expression on his face, though in his heart he let out a genuine breath of relief. Then, without answering the girl's question, he turned and called to Tyr, "Wash her off first—you can't even make out her face."

Rebecca blinked, about to wave him off, when a large sphere of water had already condensed out of midair and, under Tyr's precise control, smacked straight into her face—with a splash, the elementally pure water imbued with magic washed the black soot from her head and face, and incidentally healed some of her less serious injuries, all in the space of a few seconds.

After the water sphere dispersed, Rebecca was still somewhat dazed, and only when Amber popped out of the air beside her and clapped her hands did she snap back to her senses, belatedly nodding at Tyr: "Thank you..."

"Now you can tell me about your 'achievement,'" Gao Yang said, clearing his throat and looking at Rebecca. "Of course, if your achievement is blowing a hole this big in your own laboratory... then save it for now. We'll go back and explain it to Heddy together."

But Rebecca seemed not to have heard the last sentence. She was evidently in high spirits, her whole being so exhilarated she seemed to glow: "We broke the limit! Ancestor! We successfully broke the limit!"

"Broke... the limit?" Gao Yang did not understand at first. "What limit did you break?"

"The missile limit!" Rebecca said joyfully. "After using multi-stage rail acceleration and the new elemental enhancement casing, we drove the accelerated body to nearly twice the limit!"

It took Gao Yang two seconds to react, and then his eyes slowly went wide: "You successfully broke the missile limit? By brute-force acceleration?"

Rebecca nodded her head rapidly.

"...But what happened here?" Gao Yang blinked again, and finally could not help looking at the building nearby. "Why did your acceleration test open such a big... 'hole' in the wall? Did you build a giant cannon straight out of the acceleration rails and fire the accelerated body at the wall like a shell?"

"Well... there were some accidents, some phenomena I still don't know how to explain," Rebecca scratched her head, looking a little embarrassed. "Actually, there was originally a small window in that wall for the accelerated body to fly out through, and beyond the window there was a long deceleration stretch and many layers of steel catch-plates, but for some reason, after the accelerated body flew out, it suddenly triggered a massive explosion... and blew away almost an entire wall along with all the catch-plates outside."

"Ah, and it was not only the explosion—you have seen it yourself, have you not? A trail was left hanging in midair. In fact, that trail was far more obvious before than it is now; it is only that it has been gradually fading away."

"We are analyzing the cause of the accident and trying to determine what that trail is, but so far we have no leads. And there is another very troublesome matter—the accelerator is gone. It flew too fast, and the explosion disrupted any subsequent tracking. No one knows where the thing has flown to."

As Rebecca spoke, she could not help but let an unmistakable look of worry show on her face: "This is too dangerous. That was a metal rod weighing over a hundred kilograms, flying out at twice the maximum speed of a missile... wherever it lands, it is bound to cause disaster..."

Before she had finished speaking, Tyr beside her shuffled two steps forward and pointed at his own head: "It landed on my head."

Rebecca gave a startled "ah," then looked at Tyr with an expression of shock and helpless bewilderment: "Then... are you all right?"

Tyr: "..."
