Chapter 601 — Watching My Own Cremation
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 3
He moved about a little, got used to this new body, and then, unable to contain himself, rushed out of the hospital. There was only one thing on his mind now: to see his mother.
At that moment the bun shop was packed with people, a dozen or so young thugs shouting and clamoring for Lin Yu's mother to pay back the money.
To pay for Lin Yu's surgery, his mother had been forced to borrow over a hundred thousand yuan at loan-shark rates. When the thugs learned that Lin Yu was dead, they could not wait to come and demand the debt.
"Don't worry, I'll sell the shop in the next few days and pay you back as soon as I have the money. Please, just leave for now."
Lin Yu's mother begged, her eyes red and swollen, hoping to send them off quickly. Her son had only just passed away; she did not want his soul disturbed.
"Shit, this crummy shop of yours isn't worth a damn thing, and your son's dead already. If we walk away and you skip town, who're we supposed to collect from?" The lead thug, a brat with dyed yellow hair, cursed and ranted.
"Don't worry, I swear I won't run away. As soon as I scrape the money together, I'll pay you back right away."
"No way. Today we're getting our money, no matter what!" Yellow Hair would not let it go.
"But I really don't have any money right now. You know as well as I do, every last cent went to treating my son..."
Lin Yu's mother felt as though her heart were being carved out. Her hoarse voice carried a trace of pleading.
"No money? Fine, how about this: transfer that broken-down house of yours to us, and we'll call the debt settled." Yellow Hair's eyes darted about, and he revealed his true objective.
Lin Yu's mother was momentarily stunned. The house had been left by Lin Yu's grandfather; though somewhat old and worn, it sat in a prime location. At Qinghai's current housing prices, it could fetch at least two or three million. They were practically robbing her in broad daylight.
But now that her son was dead, the family was gone too. What was the point of keeping the house? Once the debt was cleared, she could go to her rest in peace.
At that thought, Lin Yu's mother nodded in utter despair, and just as she was about to agree, an angry shout suddenly came from outside the door.
"No! Our house is worth at least a few million. This is robbery!"
And right on the heels of that, Lin Yu, driving his new body, came charging in like a whirlwind.
"Fuck your mother, where'd this wild brat come from? None of your damn business!" Yellow Hair was furious. Seeing the hospital gown on Lin Yu, he took him for some lunatic who had wandered in from somewhere, and lunging forward, he swung his hand for a slap.
Lin Yu dodged on instinct and shoved out a hand. Yellow Hair's whole body went flying all at once, sailing a good five or six meters through the air, tracing an arc before slamming onto a table in the back.
"Kill this bastard for me!"
Yellow Hair clutched his chest and let out two miserable yelps, then gave the order. The dozen or so other thugs immediately rushed forward and surrounded Lin Yu, fists and feet flying, and Lin Yu hurried to strike back.
Then a chorus of wails rose in the bun shop, the thugs screaming again and again.
A dozen of them together could not even touch the hem of Lin Yu's clothes, while his fists and feet landed on them like a car crash.
One punch was all it took to leave them doubled over in pain.
Lin Yu himself was utterly astonished. They said a ghost-possessed body had boundless strength, and it turned out to be true; moreover, these people's movements seemed extremely slow to his eyes, easy enough to dodge.
"Call the police! Call the police!"
Yellow Hair was terrified by the scene before him. He had seen tough fighters, but never anyone this tough; this was hardly human.
Hearing that they meant to call the police, Lin Yu's mother rushed over and grabbed Lin Yu's hand, saying urgently, "Young man, they're calling the police. You'd better get out of here. I'll handle things from here."
"Mom, what are you saying? How could I leave you behind?"
Lin Yu was so overjoyed that tears nearly came to his eyes. To still be alive and see his mother again was simply wonderful.
Hearing how he addressed her, his mother was taken aback and stared at him in utter bewilderment.
Reading the look in his mother's eyes, Lin Yu understood in an instant: he was alive again, but in a different body, and his mother did not recognize him at all.
"Sorry, ma'am. Seeing you made me think of my own mother, so it just slipped out. I hope you don't mind."
Afraid that revealing his true identity would frighten his mother out of her wits, Lin Yu hastily made up an excuse.
"It's all right, young man. You'd better go, quickly. Our family's troubles mustn't drag you into them." As she spoke, Lin Yu's mother pushed him toward the door.
Lin Yu did not answer. He groped for the chopsticks on the table and flung them; they shot toward the blond at terrifying speed and, with a thud, pinned the phone the man had just dialed 110 on to the wall.
The blond went white with fright. The chopstick in the wall stood barely a centimeter from his ear; had it drifted even slightly off course, it would have been his head nailed to the wall.
"Help! Murder! Help!" the blond shrieked, his voice thick with an aggrieved sense of injustice. It was they who owed him money in the first place!
"Quit yelling. I'll pay this money on Auntie Qin's behalf!"
Lin Yu's voice was cold. Since he had come back to life, these debts were rightly his to settle.
"Young man, how can you do that? We've only just met—how could I let you repay my debts?" Lin Yu's mother looked at him, puzzled. She could not say why, but this young man gave her a strange sense of deja vu.
That he knew her surname did not surprise her. Word of her son's death trying to save another had spread among many netizens; her name and contact details had been dug up as well, and many kindhearted people had wanted to come pay their respects. She had declined them all.
"Fine, you said it, so hand the money over." The blond cared nothing for why Lin Yu would pay another's debt; so long as he got the money, his task was done.
"Give me three days," Lin Yu said.
The blond was speechless for a moment. To hear him talk so high and mighty, he had thought the man would produce the cash on the spot.
"What? You don't believe me?"
Seeing that the blond said nothing, Lin Yu frowned, his tone turning frosty.
"I believe you, I believe you. But, big brother, you should at least tell me your name, no?" Looking into Lin Yu's icy eyes, the blond could not help but shiver.
His name?
Right—he had left in such a hurry this morning that he had not even had time to look at this man's name.
"Rest assured, I keep my promises. Here's the deal: three days from now, right here. Just come by, and I'll pay you back the principal and interest together."
Lin Yu's confidence came entirely from this body he now inhabited.
He reasoned that if the young man could afford to stay at a care center, then however ordinary his family might be, they could at least produce a hundred or two hundred thousand. He would borrow it for now, and once he had earned some money, he would return it.
Having witnessed Lin Yu's skill, the blond did not dare argue. He was just about to nod in agreement when his gaze suddenly fixed on something outside the shop, as though something had caught his eye.
Curious, Lin Yu followed his gaze. A red BMW X5 had pulled up at the entrance without his noticing. The door opened and a fair, slender leg stepped out, followed by a tall, beautiful woman in a long white bohemian dress.

The woman in the long dress swept back her dark hair and took off her sunglasses. Her fair skin and exquisite features were breathtaking; the blond and his men were all struck dumb.
Lin Yu could not help but be drawn in as well. This woman's looks and bearing were indeed of the very finest.
