Chapter 447 — Prospects

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

Unlike the people of Xuanyao City, these "new citizens" had received no modern general education, had never come into contact with an industrial magical society, and could barely even read. What they could understand was still the order of the old noble rule. If one spoke to them of things too far ahead, too advanced, they would not merely fail to understand — they might even begin to doubt their new liege lord.

So it was better, after all, to give them a bit of encouragement, to at least give these "new citizens" some motivation to build a new life.

Gao Yang stepped down from the platform where he had stood to speak, and Rebecca, who had been keeping watch nearby over a great heap of flickering rune boards monitoring the situation, immediately hurried over to him: "Ancestor Yan! You were truly magnificent just now!"

Gao Yang ruffled Rebecca's hair: "How are the signals everywhere?"

"The feedback has come back. Only the signal quality near Boulder Fortress is poor — I suspect the relay towers set up temporarily during the war are not performing well, or that the magic turbulence produced after Boulder Fortress's great magic shield collapsed is still affecting the local magic field. I have already notified Sir Wald in the fortress and told him to send a team of magical technicians to collect data on the nearby magic field, and I will study it when they return. Apart from that, the signals everywhere else are excellent."

"Good," Gao Yang nodded in satisfaction, then looked toward Camille floating not far off. "Camille, I have put you to trouble this time."

Thanks to this ancient arcanist working overtime to adjust the entire magic-net communication network, and leading a group of technicians in the Institute of Magical Technology to rush out a primitive "broadcast hall," Gao Yang and Rebecca had been able to conduct this broadcast — one whose timeliness was greatly valued — the moment they returned to the territory.

"It is my duty," Camille bent slightly at the waist, then looked toward the magical communication terminal at the center of the hall, his tone full of emotion. "Signal broadcasting... I never thought I would see it again in this age..."

"You will not only see it — in the near future, you will see it everywhere." Gao Yang laughed. He was hardly content to turn such a useful magic-net communication system into a mere "amplifier for the liege lord's speeches." Now that experiments had proven the idea of "territory-wide broadcasting" feasible, he meant to use this whole apparatus to realize many of the good things he had known in his previous life.

The communication devices of the present were still crude, and traditional audio-visual recording spells had yet to be mass-produced by magical industry, but perhaps he could already be considering building a "broadcast (magic) television network" in part of the Southern Region...

Of course, such an idea might be arriving a little too early. After all, even the Magic-Net Communication Bureau in the Civil Affairs Hall had only just established its framework, and the administrators who had newly taken up the project were still studying the various properties of this wholly new thing; there was simply no spare manpower or energy for the next step of work. But since the material technology had already been achieved, Gao Yang believed that making information broadcasting within the territory regular and practical was only a matter of time.

And while Gao Yang, Rebecca, and Camille were gathered in the Institute of Magical Technology eagerly studying the communicator, in the Institute of Mechanics in the eastern part of the city, Nicholas Egg had finally completed a new piece of work.

A cylinder with a smooth, polished surface and a great many runes engraved along its side floated before him.

"Oh my god... finally finished..." A pleased humming arose from within the Iron Ball alien. "This new alloy material isn't so hard to work with after all..."
