Chapter 414 — A Groundbreaking Advance
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
Camille certainly knew these facts, so the only explanation for his bringing out this result with such excitement was that he had, as Gaoyang had required, successfully broken through the various limitations of traditional communication spells or communication devices.
While thoughts surged in Hetty's mind, Gaoyang's heart was also filled with immense emotion. What surprised him first was this—Camille had actually gone straight to something on the level of a visual intercom...
His initial target had merely been audio communication; even at the very least, it would have been fine if everyone could just send a telegram... Yet this thing had gone all the way in a single step, and that genuinely stunned him.
But after his brief astonishment, he came to his senses and realized this was only natural—in this world, sound-wave spells that reproduced voices and illusion-type spells that amounted to near-holographic projections were in fact not complicated. Before simplification, their magic circles had only been at the low-tier advanced and mid-tier elementary levels. After Jenny completed the reconstruction and simplification of most of the basic rune sets, the magic circles for these two types of spells had even become entirely low-tier intermediate...
The truly difficult part had always been simply "transmitting the signal stably over long distances."
Because of the special properties of magical power, it could only be conducted through symbols on a magic circle and could not be transmitted through "wires." Thus wired communication was extremely difficult to realize in this world, while wireless communication had always faced the problems of communication-spell circle models that could not be simplified and too many technological black boxes. It could be said that in this world of peculiar physical laws, achieving the goal of "transmitting the signal stably over long distances" was far more difficult than converting a signal into sound and images.
This was this world—a world that always brought Gaoyang surprises and constantly left him at a loss. The workers on the territory were already using laser welding guns and anti-gravity hoists, yet he still could not build a working steam cylinder.
"Good... good..." After the bit of surprise in his heart subsided, Gaoyang could not help repeating the word over and over with an especially happy smile. "Transportation and communication... half solved, half solved..."
"What?" Camille asked curiously from beside him—he was a pure researcher, and having been completely immersed in his project recently, he knew nothing of administrative affairs.
"No, nothing," Gaoyang waved his hand, then looked at the device. "Was it built using basic rune sets?"
"Ninety percent basic rune sets, but for the function of controlling the frequency of magical oscillation I used some more complex rune structures," Camille explained. "These rune structures need to be engraved on a silver substrate, but fortunately there are very few of them, and we recently discovered that an alloy of silver and crystal-blue steel also has decent magical stability. If we use this alloy to make the substrate, the cost stays within the expected range."
"Is it convenient for ordinary people to use?" Gaoyang asked next.
"As convenient as any other magical machine on the territory—just operate the control rune trigger."
Gaoyang continued, "Good. I have more questions..."
Camille floated slightly into the air, his tone full of confidence, his whole body giving off a reserved and proud slow flash of light: "Of course. I am ready to answer them."
