Chapter 254 — Betty Studies Hard

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

"No idea. There was nothing on them to identify who they are, but I searched them and found mapmaking tools and some sketches of the Dark Mountains," Amber waved a hand. "The two prisoners we caught won't talk either, and they're badly hurt. Pi Yun didn't dare dose them with potions to force a confession—afraid he'd kill them by accident. They're locked up in the barracks district now, and that priest is treating their wounds. The patrol members who came back are over there too."

Gao Qi frowned and glanced back at Betty: "Watch the house. I'm going out for a bit."

The little maid nodded blankly, and the next second saw her master and Amber already dashing out the window in a whirl of motion. Only their voices drifted faintly back through the air:

"Oh—damn this mousetrap!"

"Serves you right. Who told you to use a mousetrap to trip me up? This time it caught you, didn't it!"

"I could have just not gone with you—why did I have to jump out the window with you?!"

Betty stood dazed for a moment, then lowered her head and went back to her writing. Understanding the behavioral patterns of the master and Amber when they were together was simply too difficult; studying was easier.

Meanwhile, Gao Yang and Amber took little time to reach the "prisoner holding room" in a corner of the barracks district.

Here he saw the patrol soldiers who had encountered the enemy in the mountains, and the two prisoners they had defeated and captured. It was indeed as Amber had said—the two prisoners were badly hurt. Their hands and feet had been pierced by scorching rays, and there were numerous places on their torsos grazed by thermal rays. The metal armor melted by the high heat had made their injuries especially severe. Had the patrol soldiers not promptly dosed them with healing potions, and had the priest's holy light not pulled them through after they returned to the domain, it was hard to say whether they would have survived.

The priest, Wright, had already completed emergency treatment of the prisoners' wounds. Through a series of effective treatments—bone-setting (physical), cleansing (physical), healing (physical)—along with a tiny bit of negligible holy-light special effects, he had stabilized the prisoners' condition. Seeing Gao Yang enter, the priest immediately came forward: "My lord, you've come just in time."

Gao Yang's first glance fell on the blood stains on the priest's hands and clothes, and he was startled: "If I'd come a little later, would you have treated them to death?!"

"Huh?" Wright blinked, then hurriedly waved his hands. "No, no—their wounds are already stabilized. What I meant was, if you'd come a little later, I'd have been about to cast Calm on them to put them to sleep, and then there'd be no way to question them."

Glancing at Wright's fist the size of a clay pot, Gao Yang was quite convinced that this priest's Calm spell was absolutely effective enough to shut anyone up...
