Chapter 134 — What the Hell Did I Just Hear?!
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
Having confirmed that Miss Meitzen would come in person to look into the situation, Gao Yang did not intend to discuss too much over the magical transmission. After a few polite words, he decided to end the communication: "Then we will discuss the details after you arrive. If there is nothing else, I will hang up first."
Meitzen's startled cry immediately came through the ring: "You are going to die again?!"
Gao Yang: "...I mean end the transmission!"
Only after cutting off the magical transmission did the veins on Gao Yang's forehead slowly subside. Then he exhaled, put away the cultist's mithril ring, and let his gaze fall on the eternal stone tablet fragment on the table.
Until now, he had not risked establishing any spiritual connection with this "stone tablet." Although he knew the thing would not cause any real physical harm (after all, so many believers in this world were alive and well), whether his spirit would be affected after coming into contact with the eternal stone tablet was simply too hard to say.
After Verodai's visit last time, Gao Yang had become even more guardful of the gods of this world. Especially when he saw that "Priestess Sandy" who appeared perfectly normal to everyone else but looked to him like a light-and-shadow effect, his wariness gained an added layer of doubt regarding his own peculiarity.
He knew he was a transmigrator from another world; his body was native to this side, but his soul was not. Perhaps it was precisely this deviation in his soul that caused the priestess to appear to him as a holographic projection. Did this not suggest that his "vision" could see things ordinary people of this world could not?
And the power of the eternal stone tablet very likely acted directly upon the soul—so when the time came, would his peculiar soul run into serious trouble?
With these thoughts, he unconsciously turned the palm-sized metal plate over and over. Suddenly, his gaze fell upon the irregularly embedded crystals on the back of the metal plate.
Those crystals, together with the grooves on the metal plate, formed complex patterns. At first Gao Yang thought they were some kind of magic array, but after careful observation he found that those lines were nothing like the magic arrays he knew. And now his attention shifted away from those unanalyzable lines and fell entirely upon the crystals of unknown material.
He felt the material of those crystals was somewhat familiar.
After observing for a long while, he suddenly thought of something and quickly rose to fetch several crystals.
One intact, several shattered—precisely those mysterious crystals he had brought out from the royal capital, the mysterious crystals that had allowed him to reestablish contact with the satellite.
After comparing them, he finally confirmed one thing: those small crystals embedded in the back of the eternal stone tablet... were completely identical in material and appearance to the mysterious crystals left behind by Gao Yang Cecil back then!
Tremendous astonishment and confusion surged up at once: the eternal stone tablet was actually connected to these crystals? And these crystals could help him reestablish contact with the satellite in the sky... So was the eternal stone tablet connected to those satellites?
He pondered, unconsciously fiddling with those crystals and the eternal stone tablet in which they were set, and while he was not paying attention, the tiny crystals embedded in the "tablet" were slowly beginning to glow.
Gao Yang finally noticed the light. His first instinct was to hurry and move those few crystals and the eternal stone tablet far away from him, but before he could take action, a sudden dizziness brought all his movements to a halt.
The sensation in his limbs grew sluggish and numb; all five senses and every faculty of perception seemed to be receding from him. Gao Yang felt as though his thoughts had been drawn out of his body. Though he could still see and hear what was around him, those sights and sounds seemed not to belong to him. He felt his consciousness first float upward, and then, in the very next moment, sink without limit, "immersing" into a strange, ethereal state, while the faint, indistinct auditory hallucinations in his mind grew clearer and clearer through the process...
At last, he "heard" a flood of strange and bizarre "information" surfacing in his mind:
"...Annihilation squad... return to formation, report results..."
"Confirmed: the God of Flame shows no vital response. Annihilation bomb entering the field. Over."
"...Observed... the Holy Light Dome has collapsed. The God of Holy Light shows no vital response... Awaiting orders. Over."
"Observed... the Sanctum of Arcana is disintegrating. The Goddess of Arcana and Magic is fleeing. The Sixth Hunt Legion has departed the port..."
"The God of Storms shows no vital response... Beginning destruction of the Storm Sanctum. Over."
"The Eighth Heavy Bombardment Fleet has arrived at the designated coordinates... Beginning the bombing of the Shadow Divine Kingdom. Over."
"...Bombardment fleet... dismantling the Hall of the Dead... Observed... the Pale Bulwark is disintegrating..."
"...Confirmed: the God of Death shows no vital response. Proceeding to the domain of the God of War. Over."
"...The God of Nature shows no vital response. Over."
The utterly chaotic noise and the sensation of the world spinning upside down struck at the same time, jolting Gao Yang awake from his "immersed state." Drenched in sweat, he broke free of that eerie condition, and then he stood there utterly dumbfounded, his mind filled with horror.
What the hell did I just hear?!
What... did... I... hear?!
