Chapter 11615 — Chancellor Han Suddenly Laughed

The Blossom Guardian

As he spoke, he had already stepped up behind Wei Zhao.

Before Wei Zhao could even react, one of the man's hands had lightly pinned down his left shoulder.

At the same moment, the toy cat seemed to come alive and settled itself upon Wei Zhao's right shoulder.

Wei Zhao turned his head instinctively to look.

The instant his gaze met the toy cat's, his entire sea of consciousness gave a violent hum; from where he stood within that sea, the toy cat loomed ten thousand fathoms tall, like a vast black mountain pressing down over the whole of his mind.

At Wei Zhao's level of primordial spirit, he found himself utterly unable to move.

Chancellor Han smiled smugly, leaned close to Wei Zhao's ear, and whispered, "Thank you for all the effort you put in before. All your painstaking work—your fair confidantes, your brothers and your underlings—I'll be taking them, if you don't mind. Rest easy, I'll treat them well."

With that, a transparent primordial spirit emerged from Chancellor Han's body and, using the toy cat as its conduit, attempted to enter Wei Zhao's sea of consciousness.

Yet the very next second came a startled cry of surprise.

He had been blocked.

The transparent primordial spirit tried several times, but could not get into Wei Zhao's sea of consciousness at all; it was as though an immeasurably thick and heavy gate stood squarely in his path.

"How is that possible?"

The transparent primordial spirit refused to believe it. "How could the Toy of the Gods be blocked by an ordinary cultivator?"

This toy cat of his was of tremendous origin.

As one of Yuhe's trusted henchmen, and to help him gain a firm foothold in the Inner Royal Court, Yuhe had gone out of her way to beg this quasi-divine-grade artifact from her backer in the shadows.

In theory, so long as one was beneath the level of a divine-grade powerhouse—quasi-divinities included—the Toy of the Gods could assist in controlling them.

It was precisely by relying on this artifact that his career as a mole in the Inner Royal Court had met with unbroken success.

Yet to his astonishment, he had been stymied here, of all places, by Wei Zhao.

Little did he know that formidable as a quasi-divine-grade artifact was, the notion of prying fully open the defenses of the World Will was wishful thinking.

If Wei Zhao truly had the patience, he could have kept the man stuck here for a lifetime.

Wei Zhao might even have turned the tables and made the guest the host.

But just as Wei Zhao was using the World Will to invade the interior of the toy cat in return, he suddenly sensed an immense danger and stopped at once without a second thought.

He had felt the prying gaze of the gods' will!

In a flash Wei Zhao understood: the toy cat was an artifact of the gods, and though it now lay in the other man's hands, in essence it was still under the gods' surveillance.

The World Will might stand above the gods in rank, and for a brief while the gods could not detect it—but the gods were no mere decorations. Once too much time passed, or once the disturbance here grew too great, it would inevitably draw their vigilance.

Wei Zhao had no reason to take such a risk.

But that instant of intrusion had still allowed Wei Zhao to see a great deal clearly.

With a stir of his mind, Wei Zhao not only withdrew the World Will from the toy cat, but simply dropped his defenses altogether.

Thus the transparent spirit that had just been blocked was suddenly free to ride the toy cat's power straight in, invading Wei Zhao's consciousness sea!

The transparent spirit was instantly overjoyed.

"I told you—no one can withstand the Toy of the Gods!"

He had no idea what had just happened, but in his view, whatever it was, it made no difference to the final outcome.

Wei Zhao had fallen into his grasp—that was already settled beyond all doubt.

And then he saw the giant cat crouched above Wei Zhao's consciousness sea pounce at him.

"Huh? No, wait—"

Even as the giant cat swallowed him whole, the transparent spirit still had not grasped what was happening.

What on earth was going on?

Sensing the invisible corrosion of the toy cat's power upon him, the transparent spirit fell into utter panic.

If things kept going this way, forget laying a finger on Wei Zhao—he himself would be the first to be controlled utterly by the toy cat.

Could it be that this Toy of the Gods had malfunctioned and could no longer tell friend from foe?

The transparent spirit was terrified.

The fundamental pillar that let him stir up wind and rain in the Inner Royal Court was this Toy of the Gods; once the thing went wrong, he alone had not the slightest power to resist.

The only thing he could do now was send word and cry for help.

The Divine Kingdom on Land.

Guan Zhengxuan stared at Yu He, who was barring his way, and said nothing, his brows drawn dark.

Yu He arched her orchid fingers, fiddling with various spices, and gave a light laugh to herself: "Don't think me a nuisance, Chief Guan. My whole trip here is about the department's background check. Once that's settled, I'll be off at once—but before then, I'll have to trouble Chief Guan to keep me company here a while."

Guan Zhengxuan was speechless.

For a figure of some renown in the Divine Domain's intelligence system, she clung like a piece of sticky taffy—once she latched on, she could not be peeled off.

It truly gave him a headache.

But there was no help for it. She had come bearing the new leader's decree; no matter how impatient he was, he had to keep her company. Otherwise, if she filed a little report saying he held the new leader in contempt, he would be made to wear tight shoes for a long time to come.

At that moment, Yuhe suddenly received an urgent distress message from the Inner Royal Court, and his expression changed at once.

"That mole of yours is seizing control of the Gods' Puppet—make him stop right now!"

The transparent spirit body, being the party in question, still had no grasp of what was happening, but Yuhe could see the whole picture clearly.

Unless one ran into a genuine god-tier powerhouse, something at the level of the Gods' Puppet had no possibility whatsoever of going wrong.

There was only one explanation: it had encountered someone on its own side with higher authority!

The Gods' Puppet was an item he had personally wrung from the gods; though his original intent had been to put it in the hands of this subordinate of his, what he had handed over was only partial use rights, not true ownership.

Strictly speaking, the Gods' Puppet still counted as public property of the entire intelligence system; anyone with sufficiently high authority could use it.

Guan Zhengxuan, however, was utterly baffled. "Director Yu, I only had my man make contact," he said, perplexed. "I didn't tell him to do anything, and I'd stake my word he wouldn't do anything beyond his orders either. Have you misunderstood something?"

"..."

Yuhe choked on his words, then said with a dark face, "Authority follows the file. This mole of yours has a file that reaches the very ear of Heaven, so naturally his authority within our intelligence system is extremely high as well. Right now, the only one in the Inner Royal Court capable of seizing control of the Gods' Puppet is him!"

All things considered, this was his own oversight.

He had only thought of having the man pry out the other side's mole's secrets, and had forgotten that the other's authority was extremely high—far above this subordinate of his!

Now he had truly gone for wool and come home shorn.

Guan Zhengxuan quickly understood, and said in a quietly pointed tone, "Director Yu, now I really am a little curious. It was just a routine contact—why would this mole of yours resort to an item like the Gods' Puppet?"

Yuhe was, for the moment, left with no reply.
